Oor Bob is a Wise Old Owl, is he not, Mick?
I pick his brains as often as I can get away with it!
His brains and my youth! If it works, he gets the credit, if it doesn’t, I get the blame!

Just the bit from J 16 M1, The last time I was in Jacks was about 1998 on my way down to Oxford with a load of phone books & back loaded from Witney, Happy long gone days, Regards Larry.

Larry,

You wouldn’t have been short of something to read on the way down, Phone Books??
You never think of things like that as a load do you.

Bassman

I took a load of phone books to the GPO in Southwark in a furniture van, all unloaded by hand. Then discovered the empty van was too tall to go through the doorway and the lot had to go back on

Hiya …next time get 30 or so people to climb in the van untill you get past the low part.

Aye it was a regular job in those days Printed at Ben Johnstons On the T,V.T.E. & York Later called Donneleys, They were delivered all over the country, & all hand ball off all 24 pallets, Kept me fit to say the least, Regards Larry.

Larry,

Would that be one at a time and through seperate letterboxes? Just joking!!

Bassman

Even in those days that was the GPO even if they had enough men they would not have got off the bank.

Marshman

That would be the days when the Post Office and Royal Mail and the GPO were all different companies would it not? Wasn’t the GPO vehicles that awful green colour?
