Today, well 4.10am,jacked my job as a planner, just couldnt stand the stress it was causing on myself and my marriage. Don
t blame me gaffer, hes the same as everyone else, struggling to get drivers, it
s the constant moaning and complaining from the people we pull for that finally did it for me. How the bloody hell can the bints in a sales/distribution office for a major multi-national company not have a bloody clue where anywhere is and not have a clue about what the job they are giving out entails. Anyway after another sleepless night and another row with the wife I decided enough is enough. So for the first time in my whole working life,35years, I jacked.
So now it`s time to do something I enjoy, driving. Job hunting will start Monday, for now pub time.
good luck on that, i hope you get something less stressful.
Good for you! No job is worth that much stress! Plus pub time is always a good time. Good luck for the hunting!
i remember seeing a kid who was a planner at one of stobarts yards he had just finished his shift and he looked completely worn out, he must of had a hell of a day or he was new to the job either way he looked like he was about to burst into tears and the relief he had to be going home was clear to see
some guys seems to cope with ease with the pressures i have never done the job so always been on the other side moaning if they give me to much to do : ) not that i work for stobarts very much as its hard to see a smiling face at all in that company now i dont have a cpc its none of my concern anymore but i do understand how much pressure the planners in companys can end up in so i dont blame you at all for jacking it in if i have had enough of the drivers side of things after 26 years i can well imagine how you have felt giving in on the other side
dowahdiddyman where in derbyshire
know a few ex drivers (mostly now not driving due to health issues) who do planning and everyone of them say that been on the planning side of the desk is much harder than the drivers side of the desk. Personally couldn`t do an office job. same 4 walls daily or drive thru alps and down mont blanc? over pyrenees into spain? lots of places to see there is

You still after a jockey for the magnum?? Thought you would have lads lining up for the job…
Id rather work behind a fastfood counter at chucking out time on a satdy night than in a transport office on the desc, you just cannot win ,i had 3yrs of it never again, you cant beat gettin your keys and getting out of the way, well done for jacking, let somebody else have the hassle and stress
Doing something you enjoy is very important.
Best of luck mate.

women in transport mate - it’s a joke we have in our office too
Planning does not sound like something I would want to do.

Depends where you work / who you work with.
Same as any job really - there’s good and bad everywhere. Fairly relaxed atmosphere in our office, but
then again we aren’t Barron Wood who seem to be constantly on the phone ringing round to off load
jobs here n there at ridiculously poor rates
Well done on jacking it, first thing a driver does is “bloody planner which map has he got?”.but not having done it I wouldn’t have a clue where to start. And wouldn’t want to be an office bod either too much crumpet out and about for that lol.
As for women in transport girls at work known as “office decorations” nice to look at but good for nowt lol.
Been in a planners role for the last 8 months, getting really bored with it now…especially the drop in money!
Will very soon be returning to a driving job…as soon as i find the right one.

Thats the thing, i won
t find a job where im home every night that pays app.30k, that
s what I was on, and I knew the job inside out, drove the work for 10 years so knew what was doable what wasn`t etc but still not good enough for the customer, still, not my problem now and feel a ■■■■ site better for it.
