They’ve got a youngish blonde lady working for them. . . Noticed her about in a few locations. Spoken to a few of their drivers in the past. None of them have a bad word to say about them.

You sure she’s female Reubs?
Might be one of the cross dressers off another thread…

That is a good point - she did remarkably well with reverse gear. . .

I’ll never slag who I work for off on here again. Still learning from it to this day!

Care to explain…

You beat me to it :grimacing:

No don’t read into what not written  Apparently it is aimed the guys who drag it out or simply park up with time left to gain the night out money- no where in my post did I say they had to run over their time- don’t read into something that simply isn’t there by implication or otherwise
Vern similarly - its apparently to stop the guys who should have just gone home… leaving the yard and driving a few miles up the road then parking up, to no real benefit to the company

There’s a lot of lads who live a considerable distance from there yards who tramp,to expect them to come into yard then travel 50/60/ 100 miles home is in my opinion taking the ■■■■,it’s not always the money there after it’s more the cost and time involved in traveling that distance home, after a 15 hr shift.
I know a few lads who are having this issue now, there planning them to come back to yard 2/3 nights a week then do in one case a 140 mile round trip :open_mouth: :unamused: ,suffice as too say the truck isn’t comming back.

But that is not the firms problem, they may try to accommodate such drivers as possible, but if they need a truck back to use on a night shift, and that drivers is the only one available in the area - then you have lost your bed for the night. firms cannot design their whole operation around the needs of individual drivers. - at the end of the day if the truck they own is needed, the fact you live 100 miles away isn’t their problem.

In more niche areas where this problem is more common place (Heavy haulage/crane ballast etc) some companies will provide hook-ups for caravans free of charge - but the responsibility for providing the caravan is yours- out of work time - at base no company has the responsibility to provide you with accommodation or ensure you have access to their truck to sleep in

But then it should be made clear to the driver at the interview what they may or may not do,if they had told him he would be planned to come back 3 days a week meaning he would have a 140 mile round trip he would not of transferred to that depot, wouldn’t of taken the job, they told him he would be tramping ,out 5 days a week ,no mention of returning 3 days a week.
He has no issue with the odd day,but to now start planning 3 days a week,is in his and my opinion taking the ■■■■,he may as well be on days,he’s now trying to get a transfer back to his original depot.
You would also ask the question if the company intended to bring the truck back 3 nights a week why they took him on( allowed the transfer), common sense would be too take someone on 1/2 hr,20 mins,15 mile from the yard, not. 70 miles :exclamation: :exclamation:

They were advertising for trampers at £33k from Northwich about six years ago which is probably why they don’t set on too often.

'Ello, 'ello, 'ello…been a long, long time since I’ve called in here

My hubby is a tramper for Jack Richards and £33K is way off the mark…I’d knock about 10k off that and you might be somewhere near the mark. He seems to like the place though…he’s worked at worse places

What, tramping for £23k/year…

Joint bank account so I see EVERYTHING, plus the wage slips   …actually, apologies here…that figure is after tax and NI etc. Think the 33k quoted is probably before deductions. If it’s not, then I’ll repeat…way off the mark. Hubby’s wages range from anywhere between £2000 to £2500 going into bank every month and thats including expenses

Based on 2500 a month after tax that’s 30k take home so assuming standard tax and NI calls that about 42k a year

Recently went for an interview at Northwich, 8.80 per hour & a slight increase after 8pm & before 4am if I recall, I was quoted typical wages which was £2151 per month take home & that’s for 5 shifts & 6 shifts every other week & that includes night out allowance… I politely turned down the job.

Which would equate to around £540 per week (as it’s 4 weekly pay not monthly) which I personally don’t think is a bad wage and would compare to most of the other bigger hauliers around. You must be some kind of truck driving specialist if you think that sort of money is not good enough or by some means ‘poor’?

I’m sorry you must have misread my post, I simply explained what the hourly rate was & at no point declared to be some sort of ‘specialist’ or indeed implied that the wages were ‘poor’… I suggest you read the post properly before responding.

Although you didn’t mention you thought the pay was poor, the way it’s written could be easily misunderstood.

I’m not sure where you got that 8.80 p/h from.
I’ve recently spoken to a couple of Jack Richards drivers and have been told they get just over 7 p/h between 6 and 8 pm and just over 8 p/h between 8 pm and 6 am.

You sure ? I had a job interview with them in June/July 2003, and I was told that the pay was £7.50 daytime and £8.50 at night, paid on a 4 weekly basis.

I didnt take the job in the end, but that was because my then employer put my money up  .

Yes, these rates you’ve quoted look about right
That’s what I was referring to.
Basically same as Stobart.
