Got an assessment lined up with Jack Richards soon and wondered if anyone works/has worked for them?
Wondered what to expect if anyone has experience with them

but you will be one of the best
I’ve no experience of working for them but my guess would be that they are like every other medium-to-large general haulier in the land.

Were they not bought recently?
They used to be a very reputable old style haulage outfit.
As for as it is now,.and I’ve got to admit it’s only hearsay, but from what I’ve heard from other drivers (so it could be wrong) is as long as you have a pulse (and a Class1) you’ll be fine.
Good luck with it anyway.
I’ve had everything from strict military style paranoid driver assessor to the complete opposite of relaxed / chilled out assessment where the unit is already hooked up ready to roll.
Being jack richards i would expect you will be using curtainsiders and ratchet straps most of the time as i believe they have a contract with a wood manufacturer so you will be hauling heavy items and going round corners at 20 mph so safety will be a priority.
check the trailer handbrake is on before connecting the unit (obvious i know)
check the trailer suspension (blue handle at rear of trailer) is pulled out and set at correct ride height.
check operator licence on windscreen and in date
check VTG plating certificate in cab, usually behind passenger seat or in side storage compartment.
check 3 tacho rolls are in the cab
i have failed an assessment on not checking the blue handle at rear of trailer (potential bridge strike) and also failed on trailer handbrake even though it was parked on a bay.

3 tacho rolls? That’s ridiculous! Why not 5 or 10?!
Surely one spare is enough?
Make sure you cross at the walk ways and not a short cut even though you have looked and no traffic
I’ll echo the three tacho rolls thing. That would set my personal alarm bells ringing in as much as I’d figure that policy was being dictated by pencil necks with only a vague understanding of the actual legal requirements who in order to justify their non jobs overcompensate

Im assuming by wood contract you mean metsa, if so I can assure you I went round corners at nigh on 3x20 mph , start at 1 am Boston , strap up & then get down & do 5/6 drops round London & beyond , you’re not going to get done driving round at 20 mph , you need to get your foot down to get it done
I worked for them as a casual driver and the only problem I had was turning up for work and finding defective tyres on the trailer I was going to take out and that the previous driver hadn’t bothered to book the defects. Other than that it wasn’t a bad job, I did five years working just over five hundred days and driving 186 different units.
3 Tacho rolls?
SWEDISH BLUE:
3 Tacho rolls?Start at 05.00 do a printout and roll runs out, put in new one now down to 2. Do loads of printouts during the day, get stopped late in day and asked for a printout, and roll runs out part way. In front of DVSA, change roll and you still have a spare
Shouldn’t the reason for doing tons of printouts in a day be a problem in itself? Don’t think I’ve done more tha 3 or 4 unless I’ve gone over my time. Normally just write it down?

.
I was told in a cpc class there is no requirement in number of spare rolls.
As long as you have 1 besides what is in the head unit you’re good.

Exactly. Except for the point at which you put that one in the head unit, you no longer have a spare.
I like 1 in my kit bag, and ‘hopefully’, 1 spare in the cab.
Had the Assessment today and all went great. Couldn’t have asked for a more relaxed assessment and interview.
