MSA’s are infrastructure lay-bys are infrastructure other truckstops are private companies with no obligation to give you anything . Folk moan about the lack of facilities in the uk then people just want to use them an not contribute to the upkeep and moan when they disappearNot many drivers (none that I’m aware of) would have fees for short term parking reimbursed. There are plenty, in my experience the vast majority, of cafes/truckstops that don’t see the need to impose fees on drivers having a short break. I dropped into J26 one day last year for a 45 and had some oik on me right away asking if I’m eating or I wouldn’t be permitted to have a break. I got stung once I won’t be stung again, can’t remember what the price was but it was on the expensive side for toast and beans! I don’t eat at these places every day sometimes not at all in a week but I occasionally have other needs so guess who won’t be shaking me down again? Because that’s what it is when it’s done like this, underhanded and devious. My point is about infrastructure, whether private or otherwise, the government should not permit such behaviour and thankfully the vast majority don’t act in this fashion.
Why the hell would your boss reimburse you for buying a cup of tea . And what the hell has to do with government what a private company charges if they where subsidising them yes but they don’t . If you go in and use the facilities and not brought anything you have cost the truckstop money . There are too many drivers with a mentality of entitlement just because you drive a truck . Granted most truckstops don’t charge for parking until a cpl of hours has past and that’s good on them . At j26 you could have just gone in a brought a cup of tea or either stopped at Thurrock or south Mimms
Wind your [zb] neck in pal! Read the post properly or just shut [zb] up?
I ain’t your pal! I did read the post properly if you had half a brain you would realise it’s not a fee to park it’s the price of a cup of tea you want to pass on to your boss.most truckstops are cafes with parking if your not using the cafe you have no cause to park there .you need to realise the world does not owe you anything because you drive a truck
It’s just the same with pubs, shops etc there’s usually a sign saying something like parking for customers only, fair enough in my eyes.

Except that the average Vauxhall Vectra driver isn’t obliged by law to stop for a certain time, after a certain time, on pain of severe financial penalty. Truck drivers are, and it should be a condition of J26’s licence that HGVs are allowed to park for two hours free of charge, as is the case for MSAs (which are also privately owned).

Sorry but it’s their land and their rules,we all plan for where we are going to take breaks,if we don’t want to pay we know where to stop.

Thing is mate, you’re quite right they are not obliged to, but it could maybe do more good than harm if they did .
Say I discovered it by chance when I needed 30 on a 45, and really needed a kip.
I get a knock to tell me to basically do one unless I buy a cup of tea, I aint hoing to go back there anytime am I?
So I wonder how many drivers they have ■■■■■■ off because of their policy on this.
…Come to think of it,.that’s how I discovered Chipp t/stop for first time, I pulled on for a 15 min and read the paper, and I’ve been back numerous times since for meals, I would not have gone back if told to ■■■■ off.

I don’t think they’d move you on they are really decent people I’ve been there loads of times, sometimes just to get my head down during the day,may be different in the busy period and it does get busy.Ive also dropped my drawbar trailer when i drove one and done tranships no problem, just asked permission, might be ok if they know your face who knows.

Tbf I could see their point if I pulled in and just sat in the cab for half an hour, when other guys were parking up for the night and it was getting busy, …not that I would be so tactless to do that, but you get my point.

So you’d support the scrapping of the legal requirement for MSAs to provide two hours’ free parking?

No msa,s deserve all they get and I don’t think I actually said that, even so if we have to pay for parking not a problem ,I get a receipt hand it in and get reimbursed.

You got that right PAL! I might only have half a brain but it seems to be about half a brain more than you. I don’t know where you get the idea I think the world owes me something? Now have a wee look at their website then stfu! From J26 website…
Lorry Park
PLEASE NOTE!
Overnight parking ticket entitles drivers to a meal and 2 cups of tea/coffee
As is the standard in the UK we offer two hours free parking.
Well from what I heard, 8 trucks had light fingered visitors there last night. Your 32 pounds isn’t going on security staff
Went in this morning, for an hour(Nobody chased me to buy food)…and there was a truck parked in the middle, with a large hole each side.
Truck parked in middle with holes, how did you know if the holes were done before parking up there or not , did you see the police crime reference number or not ?

I did’nt
Maybe they clattered the tank on a pothole while trying to park up?

I think it’s slightly different as when a company takes on a msa they have to agree to offer certain facilities and suchlike.
J26 isn’t a msa it’s just someone who opened a truckstop near a motorway.
