J26 truck stop

Does anyone know if it’s open today for overnight parking?

I’ve tried ringing but have only got the cafe number and they are shut.

Why would you? They advertise one price, charge another offer a swamp to park in and charge the earth for food, when the cafe is open. I never thought I’d say this but park at South Mimms. At least there you can go into the main services and get something almost edible. Its the same price, there is diesel available on site and you don’t end up looking like a fell runner going from cab to kahzi.

I stopped there last Friday for the first time, and unless hell freezes over, the last. A terrain that would be the envy of any armoured vehicle training/testing ground, and closed at 14.00.

14.00… and that ■■■■ hole wants to be called a “truck stop”■■

I’ve not had a bad experience at 26 though I’ve only stayed there a couple times. Thinking about it, I only stopped the night in summer so yeah, I guess it’s pretty boggy at the moment!

I’m parked up at South Mimms now and have bagged a decent spot so I might just stay put.

Parking is open and free but will be full up due to Eastern European drivers on weekly tacho rest and waiting for reloads back to Europe.
If full try the lay by on slip road in both directions by truck stop.
Not sure if shower is open as need token but the toilet should be open.
If nobody answers phone they are shut til January 2nd.
There free parking in West London on , go past Park Royal/Hangar Lane towards M25 .
Before the airport with private jets you see a large retail park with Shell /hotel/casino/bowling alley/Chinese restaurant and other food outlets.
Go around the back on the road for the old BBC outside broadcast depot.
You may see the rock and roll concert trucks parked up.
Ignore the no parking restrictions and signs they are not valid and out of date.

Admittedlly I’ve never stayed there so maybe I should not comment, but as for hearsay…everybody I have spoke to who has, have always slagged it off and vowed never to go back.
So based on that I will not stay there if I find myself down that s/hole of an area (hope not btw  )

South ■■■■ Mimms on New Years Eve… :open_mouth:

Can’t believe I’m saying this but out the two South Mimms would be my choice.
J26 known for its ■■■■ poor surface and there was reports of drivers being told they had to buy stuff if they wanted to take a break.

Yes use them or lose them etc but being told I have to do something usually means I want to do the opposite.

Might be some interesting sights in the services at around 2-3am though.

The reports about having to buy stuff are true.

South [zb] Mimms on New Years Eve… :open_mouth:
Seriously?

I’m not one for going out New Year’s Eve but I wouldn’t work it unless it was mega money and New Year’s Day is just a no no full stop…

I think the food is excellent at j26.

Fully Agree

For anyone to suggest that the food at South mimms is anywhere near the same league…simply astounds me.

I always had good experiences with J26.

Stop at J26 regular for dinner and I I’ve never had a problem there

Yes,good grub, fresh and decent sized portions.

£32 to park ain’t the cheapest but it doesn’t come out of my pocket,I stopped there a couple of weeks ago and had what was supposed to be a suet pudding it was like shoe leather complete with frozen mixed vegetables normally food is usually ok,nice roast dinners and decent salads

You are kidding? £32 for parking■■? On that piece of cratered wasteland? And as far as I could see, not even a fence to keep the tealeaves out?

That is obscene.
