Iveco anyone?

Well, Ive driven some real nails over the years, but when I drove a Guy Big J or an A.E.C. Mandator or an Akti the standard was generally poor anyway. So you kinda got used to it....Then the Swedish revolution came and the lucky ones got a decent motor. Over the years the standard improved for the driver and I was thinking, trucks are like cars now in that you cant really buy a really bad one. They`re all pretty good these days.

Anyway today they sent me out in an Iveco. WHOAH! It sent me back to a bygone era where the driver was never given a thought by the designers. What a piece of work. Its like they just discovered plastic and boy they intend to use the stuff.

Truly awful. I hope I never have to set foot in one of those contraptions again, it was hideous.

I just wondered if anyone could think of something good to say about the bloomin` things. Plenty spacious I suppose, but jeez what a pile.

Personally I think you are wrong. I’ll admit the build quality is a long way off from the rest, but it’s one mighty fine and underrated truck. They just take a little bit longer to get used to than a volvo, scania or whatever. But once you get used to it, you realise just how good they really are. It will take more than one drive in an iveco to appreciate them.

I would agree entirely with all you said , having spent the last 8 years driving an Iveco Stralis I always found them to be every bit as good if not better than the Volvos they replaced , all that glitters isnt gold !!! .

it,s not what you drive it,s what.s in your wallet at the end of the week.

If its an auto iveco then no
That slow dimwitted auto box in them is unbearable, but saying that I drove a rigid iveco (fairly new) with a 6 speed auto and that was ok so hopefully they might of sorted the delay out with there newer models
But even then there not that refined

I’ve no real complaints with mine.

I have had my fair share of Iveco tractor units over the years, The interior panels of the 190.38 I had, was made from recycled cigarette cartons and you would nearly freeze to death on a summers night due to poor…scratch that …no insulation whatsoever.

But it would pull like a Bull in springtime.

The EuroStar and Eurotechs interiors were not built any better, Cheap was the order of the day but in all fairness I never had any serious breakdowns with them.

The Stralis 6 legger rigid I now drive has the automated box with a shift delay longer than a British Gas callout, but for a working truck with a good driving position and vision it takes a bit of beating. Pretty and stylish they aint, but for basic functionabilty they do what is says on the tin.

Drove (is that a word) a Eurotech for a few years, didnt have a problem ,also have never been an appendage waver.
If you drive it for thrills,it wont pay the bills.

Loved my EuroTech, never had a serious issue with it while away 6 weeks at a time , and I also think the in cab layout in the Stralis is among the best there is, not many cabs where you can actually have a living dining area away from the drivers seat.

I’d drive one.

They love 'em in Italy and they’re worked hard.

I’d have one, no probs.

We have some, the drivers reckon they are ok but why would anyone make a tri axle unit without a lift axle ffs.

I have some very fond memories of my dads old Turbo’s and Turbostars and would love one now just to reminice. I never liked the Eurotech but the Eurostar wasn’t that bad, it had a nice big cab that was good for its day. As for Stralis’s, I’ve never driven one for more than a shunt between the yard and the Iveco garage and they were 02 reg’s years back so they’ve no doubted changed. At the time though they were 3 years old and the inside of the cab was litterally falling to bits.
Iveco’s have always had a bad reputation and was somewhat looked down on in the Turbostar days but I think they held their own very well. They pulled very well and if it weren’t for the poor quality of the metal used that rotted terribly, they’d have been a fantastic truck, in my opinion at least.

Plastic fantastic

My Euro cargo isn’t bad, could do with a bit more power to be honest and another roll of duct tape to hold the dash together but it does the job and has only broken down twice, once from a burnt out clutch (caused by a driver overloading it and riding the clutch) and the other an adblue problem because no one can be bothered to fill it up when I’m on holiday. At least its not got a single seat, half width cab like the other ones on the fleet.

I vaguely remember driving a Euro4 about 3 years ago before I got my Volvo. I was still very green then and decided to do some work for a regional waste firm in the north east.

I remember that - although I appreciated the fact that it was one of my first jobs, and so very enjoyable and exciting - the drive felt very staggered, laboured and generally quite sluggish and unresponsive.

I’ve got no qualms with driving an Iveco again, but Volvo and Scania are streets ahead for me.

got mine coming in a few weeks once it gets sprayed ect, had it on demo before we said yes and it pulled as well as my 470 scania and its a 450. on the fuel check did better mpg as well.
told how to drive the box by the guys at iveco and if you follow their instructions i found it changed quicker than our auto scania’s.
its got twice the living space of my topline and the twice as comfortable in driving postion and the bed, ok there are a couple of silly finish issues but i will live with that for the extra space and comfort when you spend 5 days or more days away thats top of my list :sunglasses: :sunglasses: :sunglasses: :sunglasses: :sunglasses:

We have some Iveco rigids, there is plenty of room inside even though they are day cabs, stearing wheel is too big, build quality is poor and manual gear box takes some getting used to low range 4 knock to side high range 4. But once your used to the gear box its ok, pulled well anyway.

It’s a Fiat…

'Nuff said!

Amen. Whoever came up with that idea whilst lunching on pasta & chianti needs stoning to death with rotten tomatoes.
