Right. I can reasonably argue the toss about many things truck related. I can use the information I trust. The information I can glean from others and documents that I can use to prove a point.

However. I dont have a clue about the Palestine / Israel conflict. I know that in 1948 the UN were given responsibility for splitting the land. I dont want to know about the old testament. I dont want to know about what happened 2000 years ago. What I want is to be able to understand, without screaming racists and bigots is where I can get a balanced view of the problem. I like George Galloway and normally trust the BBC World Service, but the tempers run very high on both these programmes.

Someone explain in simple terms, what each side wants, why they want it and more to the point why they should have it.

Murdering innocent children of any description has to be condemned by absolutely everyone.

The state of Israel is not based upon any genetic heritage of that area, the Jews were of European decent and granted the land purely on religious arguements. The british were glad to get shut of it as it diverted the conflict they were having with Palestinians elsewhere. The Zionist state of Israel openly acts against local Arab jews from settling there. It is a country that has no roots in the region apart from self-claimed religious ones, so any arguement that Palestine is acting from religious motivation is null and void. Palestinians can trace their heritage from that land, Israel was simply given it as a solution to the European Zionist problem.

From what i can gather each side wants the same bit of land. The Israelis because all the main players in Biblical times were Jewish, and so believe they have a historical link. The Palestinians because they were there before that anyway, and because they didn’t really rate Jesus and his mates don’t recognise Israel as having a legitimate claim.

Israel was a small parcel of land created in 1948 in Palestine for the European Jews to settle in. Over the years with American weapons and technology and backing this situation has reversed, and the Palestinians are understandably miffed. Seeing as they do their land being occupied. They have now been forced to live in 2 small bits of territory - The West Bank and The Gaza Strip.

Who’s right and who’s wrong depends on which side of the fence you sit, but to most neutrals the Palestinians have the greater claim and have been dumped on the most.

Without the Americans Israel could not continue to exist, even with their nuclear weapons, and it’s therefore only the Americans who can resolve the issue. But it’s Jewish money that finances American politicians and so that’s why there’s a reluctance in the US to do anything to the detriment of Israel. The politicians will huff and puff and bluster about the need for action but in the end they’ll quietly drop it and so nothing gets done.

Thanks for that, it has simplified a very difficult situation. As I mentioned it is the kids, they are innocent. Hamas or Hezbollah, Jewish or Palestinian. My uncle was out in Sharja, Suez and Aden but I never really understood the Israel conflict.

I have a lot of Lebanese friends and some that I would not ■■■■ on.

Thats a decent appraisal DaiDap, however there is just one point in which many westerners get confused.

First the Jews don’t believe in Jesus, afterall, they nailed him up (or rather got the Romans to do it) and therefore deny Christianity.

Palestinians are Moslems and as such they believe in Jesus (their prophet is Mohammed). They dont believe he is the Son of God but they do believe he was the highest blessed phrophet; and because his body was never found (ie ascended) they also (like te Christians) believe Jesus will perform a Second Coming.

As a result, the Christians and Moslems both believe in Jesus and are currently both waiting for him to come back. Whereas the Jews are bricking themselves in case he does.

This results in a concept called ‘End Timers’ that exist in the world govts and who are pushing to create armeggedon in the hope Jesus will appear.
