Isle of Sheppey Bridge multiple pile up in fog [Merged]

Re the picture a couple of posts before, unless injured why is that woman jst sat in the back of that car? Even if trapped I’d be trying to put a window out incase the car caught fire…Look how bad the back end is damaged, who’s to say there isn’t fuel leaking?

Santa:
So who was the mystery truck driver who blocked the roundabout? I bet he was the recipient of a few choice comments at the time.

That was my thought too Santa…

Someone said he was going the opposite way, saw what was happening and decided to block the road to save people, and 1st thing in my head was ‘imagine the abuse he was getting’

Derf:
Funny how everyone involved that was interviewed said ‘I stopped in time but was shunted from behind’

Be interesting to see how 100 stationary vehicles were all shunted at once…

That will be investigated by TNUK CSI squad

Whirlwind:

Suedehead:
These things always seem to happen just before Xmas.

Wtf ■■? It’s [zb] 1st week in September .

The shopping channels are selling Christmas gifts

So the O/P was correct :exclamation:

Don’t worry, give it a few weeks and every RDC waiting room will be full of drivers purporting to be THAT driver on the bridge…!

You summed that up beautifully.

We British cannot drive in fog …cars.uk.msn.com/socialvoices/dri … r-prepared

Immature I know, but ironic company name!

From here.

It’s was me I closed that road  tho I’ll be the 1st

Rumour has it he wasn’t actually attempting to close the road but had apparently been involved in a slow speed chase with a VW driver who’m he had chased all the way from Birmingham and finally spotted his opportunity to batter the car driver by blocking the road off!

Dieseldoforme:
I told all these people about my FOG RADAR.

Now they’re queing up to buy it in droves.

“In the future, the scale of multiple-vehicle pile ups will be radically cut by technology.”

At present only 1 or 2% of cars have AEB (autonomous emergency braking) - where the car brakes automatically warns the driver at the sign of an obstacle ahead.

“It’s radar-based so that even when it’s foggy it would have worked,” he says. And soon it is likely to become a common feature.

Next year cars seeking a five-star safety rating will require AEB features.

Also from 2014 it will become mandatory for lorries to be equipped with forward collision warnings.

Crashes will still happen but there will be very few big pile-ups.

“Things like the Isle of Sheppey crash just won’t happen in 10 years’ time.”

I had a truck - 80th anniversary edition Volvo FH520 - that had this feature, and it used to slam the brakes on for no reason on an empty motorway at stupid o’clock in the morning, so it got disabled.

Don’t fancy our chances if every vehicle ends up with it, it’ll just be random emergency brakes on motorways at all times of the day and night

I agree.

They should invent something that disables all electronic gadgets as soon as you enter the vehicle before all that crap.

I sort of agree, but I think they should get rid of fully comp insurance, seat belts, abs, traction control, airbags etc…

If you drive like a ■■■■■ you’ll have an accident, it’ll ■■■■■■■ hurt and it’ll cost you a fortune = less accidents.

Been going on for donkeys years . . . I think its called “The Oirish” :stuck_out_tongue:

look at it another way, once the insurance is sorted out the salvage boys are going to have a field day,as harry enfield would say,LOADSAMONEY,i bet they are rubbing their hands in anticipation, seriously i was expecting the lorry haters to come out of the woodwork with the usual shouts,IT WAS A HGV DRIVERS FAULT,would not put it past them

rambo19:
I remember as a young lad being out with my dad in the lorry.
He taught me in fog to drive with the radio off and window open, when I asked why;
“because you will hear the crash in front before you see it”

My father told me the exact same thing…I always drive with the window open, even in the rain!
Hearing is a much underestimated asset when driving.
