Isle of Sheppey Bridge multiple pile up in fog [Merged]

Driving standards are getting worse by the day. Doesn’t surprise me.

I think it’s more a case of everybody seems to be in a hurry nowadays especially in the morning.

Yes that is true but I and many others can still drive fast and progressively and still be safe.

100 vehicles… All piling into the back of each other, too close, too fast, and completely blind by the car in front and or the fog.
Bad driving.

maybe when they sort this out ppl should get points and have a mandatory retraining course /assesment

What is nice to see is that most trucks pictured haven’t hit anything but stopped safely. It’s the cars that seem to have been involved with the crashes.

They would probably all pass it but would probably fail a common sense test !

Hit the nail on the head. That’s an embarrasing standard of driving to cause that amount of damageed vehicles if the figure is truly correct, as I’ll imagine that’ll take them best part of the day to count up. (And a transporter is counted as one vehicle not 1+8 etc   )

Surely quite a few of them must be charged with careless driving, regardless of the type of vehicle they were driving.

This kind of zb display plays into the authorities hand that “the royal we - meaning all types of vehicle drivers” can’t be trusted to act responsibly when we get behind the wheel of a vehicle.

And I ain’t no saint when it comes to driving. But I at least know not to mess around in fog and when to use my lights correctly. If the report is to be believed they were down to 20 yards visibility in places with no lights on :open_mouth: :open_mouth:

Bet your bottom dollar they had their fog lights on, when visibility improved to over a 100m though, like the usual standards are implemented on our roads nowadays! :unamused: :unamused: :unamused:

Hahahahaha so true it hurts!

C

Had a car follow me yesterday on way to work in fog,
no lights, and tailgating!

Some drivers are dumb!
Drive to the weather i was taught.

Queram:
No surprise really; it’s been quite foggy this morning yet half of the drivers did not turn on any light, many of other half only had sidelights or daytime lights on…

Yep. See this all the time myself and sometimes I Flash my lights to let them know theirs are not on but are required, very rarely is the response extra illumination on the car.

Pile up on a motorway in thick fog? Its nothing new. Been some terrible ones over the years.

No truck driver arrested yet !!!

Surely the drivers at the front that caused the start of all this should be arrested straight away…correct me if you think otherwise but I guarantee if a truck had been right at the front they would be arrested straight away & the headlines would be slagging of hgv’s as the cause !!

Cheers for that Freddy, I’ve now merged the two topics to keep all the comments in one place.

Hang on a minute! The drivers at the front didn’t cause this, it’s the idiots behind them going too fast and couldn’t stop.

Or are you blaming the drivers at the front for going too slow… :open_mouth:

BTW: well done to the truck driver going the other way that went round the roundabout and tried to block the road to stop more crashes!

Very lucky there was not a fire.
Full credit to the truck driver that blocked the road, propably saved lives.

But it will happen again, and again and again…

I wonder how many of those drivers were playing with thier phones…

I can remember many years ago while out with Dad, we had left Norwich and pulled into a layby near Dereham, this was prior to the bypass. It was very thick fog.

Getting out to check the trailer there was a car sitting behind. He enquired as to how long we were staying there as he wanted to follow us cos we “knew the road”.

You see it every day when it’s busy, every bell end piles in to lane 3 nose to tail, then they start crashing in to the back of each other.

Now, I’ll be the first to tonne up if the road is clear & I can make good, safe progress but this obsession to pile in to lane 3 when its busy is just retarded.

“From our training centre in Kent, we specialise in high quality HGV, LGV, PCV and Driver CPC training and have been providing the road transport industry with qualified drivers for over 12 years. Our instructors pride themselves on a professional attitude towards your training, which leads to a candidate who is both confident and able to perform well on the test.”

No sympathy here - bell ends were probably travelling to fast and close to each other… :unamused:

A14 3am this morning and I am going through patches of dense fog. 2 cars came past me doing at least a hundred! Idiots :imp:

Your right before the insurance pay out the police should inspect every phone if a text or e-mail has been sent within ten minutes nail them

Aside from the car transporter and the training truck the other wagons don’t seem to have hit anything, they appear to have been able to stop but unfortunately were piled into by everyone else

Funny how everyone involved that was interviewed said ‘I stopped in time but was shunted from behind’

Be interesting to see how 100 stationary vehicles were all shunted at once…
