anybody still driving a merc with the EPS?
now that was fun
Aye, dropping into neutral fully laden down that hill just outside Haverfordwest on the A40.
Best bloody laxative known to man!

Going on from what BasilBrush said re the FMX; A demo with IShift impressed our lot a couple of months ago but bad experiences with FEs mean it’ll have to be VERY good for Smiths to buy Volvo again. The FE/FL aren’t PROPER Volvos though.
Disagree, i had a FL12 380 for a couple of years, superb truck pulled like a train and completely trouble free, and in wagon and drag car transporter guise could be thrown around without the slightest problem, low cab kept overall height down even with an MPV tilted over the top.
It laughed at 6" of snow too whilst all around other trucks couldn’t move, tried all sorts not to have to accept the new FM auto that replaced it, now that was disappointing.
You’re talking about a proper FL. what we are saddled with are Renaults with Volvo badges on.

I know that, but my employer thought £10k per wagon cheaper than a Daf CF was more important. To be fair, I think the 57 reg Dafs and 08 reg Volvos break down as often as each other; Often.
If they were as clever as they thought they were they would have brought the Renault Premium, same thing, probably cheaper.
And I understand you can get a 10 litre engine if you buy the Premium as opposed to the 7litre Maggie D powered Volvo.
I think the modern day FL is called the FLE to avoid confusion with Wendy Houses…
Mine has the Mercedes powershift 1 .It’s a great job.

You be right there, it sayeth FL7E on the vehicle ID stickers. I have noticed since ours got over 300000 km on the clock a marked reduction in engine power.
Have Volvo dropped that asthmatic Allinson transmission that you used to get in FL6s? Someone had a demo of it and if you wanted a night out just stay behind it.

Nope, it’s still available in the FL/FE. I think only refuse operators spec it.
