Is this ok shift to accept from agency?

Hi all,

I can get work from agency this weekend, but…Shift starting at 3.30 am, need to go out from home at 2.00, would get some 2 - 3 hours sleep if lucky to fall asleep early, from 3.30 wait for paperwork 1hour or 2, then do checks and go, shift can be 12 hours approximately, pay 12.50p/h, London, would you do it? I think it’s not safe, so refusing it already second time. Considering my limited experience maybe I’m just too picky?

The money would have to be extraordinary for me to travel 1.25 to 1.5 hours from home for a days work.

Apart from that if you can’t get enough sleep you’re right to turn the shift down.

YOUVE 8 HOURS TO KIP FROM NOW…oops…your getting a crap shift because you have no experience.
your only being offered the shift because nobody else will want it as it will effectively lose you an entire weekend for a 1 shift pay and with few ■■■■■■ exeptions then nobody wants to start at stupid oclock…
what have you got to lose if your wanting to work but theres nothing else on the table.
id clarify what happens if as and when you run out of time on the way back though.

Bank holiday weekend, dark o’clock start, you won’t sleep well because you’re already worrying about it.

Don’t imagine that by helping them out, they will return the favour. They won’t.

Rather a lack of experience than a bad experience.

Stating the obvious, but when things go wrong when driving a truck, they can go very wrong very quickly. Your intuition is speaking, always, always, always listen to it.

3:30 am is nightshift. 10 hours max working time

They say it’s a day shift, there are night shifts, start 20.00.

I work midnight / 1 / 2 am starts , I often look at the clock at 8/9 pm and think bloody hell I need to go asleep , you only need to fall asleep the once at the wheel , I’ve had some really bad early hours ,
only you can decide

+1…

Ding ding ding…we have a winner.

as above
if your agency asks you…
could you help us out.
do us a favour,or your the only man for the job ect, then that means…this shift is crap, nobody wants it and we are hoping because you are a newbie then you will be gullible enough to swallow the pish we tell you and once your in the seat, then we wont care.
on the assumption you dont get regular similar shifts, then why would you take this 1 off minger.
unless your needing a hundred quid desperately,id be telling them to hoof las its a bank holiday as you will be going nowhere fast.

Yes, I know what you mean, if that would be some warehouse job I wouldn’t be so worried, if I count something wrongly or send an email to some wrong address no one would die…

3:30 start is a day shift but still comes within the night time working rules, legally unless there’s an opt out agreement in place you’re restricted to 10 hours working time in the 24 hour period.

The agency can say whatever they like (and, believe me, they will) but anything that goes through the hours between 00:00 and 04:00 is night shift

As was posted before, night shift is a maximum of 10 hours unless they got you to opt out of it

sorry - Tacho beat me to it and worded it better

No, I’m not desperate and not worried about helping them out, just want to get as much experience as I can, considering I can do only weekends at the moment, but not for this price, doing class 1 in September, hopefully it will give me some more choice.

I think I signed 48 hour opt out, can’t remember night hour opt out, need to check…

You mean 10 hours of driving and other work only? I think it’s 10 hours including everything?
