how do you stand if you have a lad moving trucks, changing trailers in a yard but has no license, hes supposedley been trained to do it,but id of thought even if it is a private yard hed of still needed a license, what happens if he runs someone over, kills them, are we still covered by insurance ta
saw title and thought you were asking ‘is it legal to run over people?’ lol
Why would he need a licence if he never drives on the highway?
If he runs you over and kills you then you aren’t going to be able to spend an insurance payout so it doesn’t really matter.

that should be enough to cover it.
surely no different to using a shunter,as far as i’m aware you don’t a C+E licence to drive a shunter in a yard, just get trained up to use it

so your saying its fine to shunt trucks around yard without a lisence, amazing ,id of thought youd of needed one, private land or not.
if he kills me then id hope the insurance would pay out my dependents,i assume it wouldnt or am i reading you wrong
i was talking to him the other day and said why didnt you just take your test, then you could do some shunting and some driving,he said he was going to but because of some kind of problem with his legs they wont allow him, which is the bit that baffles me more than anything,if theyll not allow you to drive on road, how is it legal to drive in a yard/private or not,how would insurance view it.
i suppose well have to wait and see what happens if he does run some one over

I’m surprised you thought that, on private land you can do pretty much what you want when it comes to driving. Kids drive things around farms or transport yards or they race vehicles at special rece meetings and they aren’t even old enough to hold a licence.

but as i say,if theydeem you not fit to drive on the road how can you be fit to drive in a busy transport yard,he normally works the wash,so a few hours doing reversing into a few parking slots, pick up a tri is enough training,

What would you rather he do? Stay at home an claim benefits? At least he is doing something, let him be and only worry about it when he does run somebody over. Although he probably has much less chance of doing that as anybody who uses that yard because he will be more familiar with it than some visiting drivers.

im just suprised that a large logistics company can have someone without a license shunting trailers round a very busy yard, espcially when hes not allowed one for the road,i can understand some young kid on a farm[even though a few have been killed] driving a tractor, car, but this just seems strange to me when every things so h+s these days, but i guess they wouldnt allow it to happen if its not legal

he washes the trucks normally so no he wouldnt be out of a job,i worry about it now as i would like to see my girl get married,be a grandad etc etc,id also like her to get some money to tide her over if he does happen to run me over, most visiting drivers can drive a truck, reverse one, i watched him reversing [loose term] into a parking slot the other day, give me a visiting driver any day

then give up driving for Gods sake it is probably the most dangerous profession on this planet judging by the amount that die every year

What he said, and also, can’t you not look after yourself? Keep your eyes open, don’t get run over, not ■■■■■■■ rocket science.
Sometimes I wonder how some people on here have made it to adulthood.
Go down to Felixstowe docks & ask how many tug drivers hold a class 1,not too many of them.I know 2 blokes that work there without, they get trained on site.I do not see the problem with that, probably better drivers than some of the " aimers " heading away from the dock…

really nothing to do with you if the companay employs him then let him get on with the job he would have been trained to do it most shunters dont have a hgv licence

i dont see why i should pack up driving ,i also dont see why some truck washer should be allowed to put my life,my girls future on the line either,
id be intrested on your thoughts
FAMILY MAN,RUN OVER BY UNLICENSED DRIVERi guess youd all be saying at least he was working, not on the dole,
,theres loads of drivers with licenses looking for jobs,so to me employ one , put someone on the job who knows what hes doing, ffs the lad in question was deemed not fit to train as a hgv driver,so how can he be fit to drive one, private land or not

it is if hes not covered by insurance, which is what i said ,is he

What about the thousands of unlicensed drivers on the roads? Yes they are beside you that traffic jam and sharing the carriageway with you in far more dangerous circumstances than a haulage yard. More chance of one of them killing you than this bloke so if this is indeed a major concern of yours it is time to hang up your keys.

He wouldn’t be an unlicensed driver, he doesn’t need a license. He would only be an unlicensed driver if he actually required one to do his job and didn’t have one.

He will be, just not the same type of insurance you have when driving your truck as his vehicle won’t need it if it doesn’t go on the highway.

i can keep my eyes open thankyou, but accidents happen dont they
,well to normal folks they do,if he runs me over or anyone else then id like to know there dependents get something to tide them over, wife, young kids,i cant see if hes not allowed through medical reasons to train as a hgv driver how he can be insured, really cant see it.
amazing though really, all the ■■■■ about the tractor driving poles taking jobs ,now its fine to chuck any tom,■■■■ or harry in a truck,i think there a saying-AS LONG AS ITS NOT IN MY BACK YARD
