your truck is on a bay on a green light,so you let it roll forward to shut the back doors, in the mean time the loader opens the bay doors to put a couple of more pallets on,but trucks a few feet away from bay as youve rolled it forward by just realesing park/brake,loader still has keys.
if the lights on a green surely its alright to roll truck forward even if you havent got keys, loader has to lift door to load truck so hed straightaway see no truck so couldnt hurt himself, unlike if you rolled it off bay on a red light

Green means go, but I have always checked, a simple way to see if it is empty is to take a picture with your mobile phone if you cannot see inside, the picture shows an empty or full trailer and you are free to pull off.
The safest way would be to hand your ignition keys to the loader from the cab and he brings them back when he has finished. or an airlock for the H&S gestapo
But if anyone gets the sack, it probably should be the bloke who gave you a green light without telling you to wait.

yea it seems a bit harsh to sack someone for pulling truck off bay on a green light, but from what im told he didnt have keys so shouldnt have moved it[rolled it forward],sacked for serious breach of h+s so im told.,shunters do it al the time but thats o.k. ta
Couldn’t give a ■■■■ about what colour the light is, Letting the Handbrake off with no keys and ultimately no control is just lazy and carless no matter where you are.
I think it could be a sackable offence, if your not in possession of the keys then why are you trying to move it. I can understand why you would do it to save time, but as I said no keys no movement no matter what colour light you’ve got! Thats my slant on it anyway. Hope I’m wrong, don’t like to see anyone lose their job.
Surely them taking your keys off you means that they don’t want you to move until they give them back
Whats the rush anyway your on hourly pay aint ya
keep job but cut goollies off. so must have save about 30 seconds. keys and paperwork back is tipped.
also when locking truck rear door your head is by ramp - loading bay door may suddenly reopen and squish!

no i think its the lights that signify whether you can move or not,if there on green its safe to move off bay, red its not, these were on green.
hourly pay-not all, some still on old contracts, salary, job and inish, not sure what contract this driver was on, dont know him that well,

Why are they just relying on lights anyway
.
I did’nt ever work with any system of lights or handing the keys to anyone.Except in the case of out of warehouse loading shift hours it was always a case of confirm it with the warehouse staff before moving it off the bank.If anything had happened without that being done I’d have been expecting some serious issues from the loaders and that’s even before the management had even got started.
This is the reason drivers are forced to sit in ■■■■■■■ little portacabins instead of having a snooze on the bunk!!!

my thoughts too, good bollocking, next time your out senario, but sacked pretty much on spot seems a bit strong too me, if hed done it on red fair enough sack him, but on a green i think a few harsh words would do[the only thing i dont know is did he have previous],maybe explains there reaction
Sorry. I didn’t realise they had taken the keys off the driver, in that case he probably will lose his job Maybe he had spare keys or handed the wrong ones in, it does happen

he has lost his job wheelnut, sacked pretty much straight away, he did hand in right keys, but when bay light went to green he let it roll off bay to shut doors by letting park/brake off,he was then going bto fetch keys when he fetched his paper work.
The driver didn’t have full control of the vehicle hence why he might of got sacked for it
is he a stobart driver?

The lights mean nothing these days mate, always best to wait until someone says its ok and you have got your keys.

no the reason we have to sit in canteen is drivers pulling off on RED lights, with the forkie could injure himself, this driver rolled off bay on a GREEN LIGHT[green is safe to go], forkie couldnt hurt himself as door was shut, GREEN light on, unless he opened door and fell out ,suprised by fact truck wasnt there.
as i say weve been made to sit in canteens due to drivers pulling off on RED lights, not GREEN, h+s leaflets, memo on boards support my theory, green o.k to go, red not safe to go

no im pretty much sure he was sacked for moving truck off bay without keys, even though bay light was on GREEN
