Best thing about being a truck driver is driving big trucks.
In a ‘misery loves company’ stylee there will always be those dissolusioned with their lot in life or who made bad choices or who cant do bugger all else.

But theres a few who like me got into this profession because they love trucks and cant belive they are paid for it, theres still good days and bad days though but in the same way as I like my minges I take the rough with the smooth. Albeit theres the odd occasion where one has to moan with the herd to fit in.

So if you have to ask if theres anything good about driving trucks then perhaps you shouldnt be driving trucks, pick something you love to do and youl never work a day in your life.

But if part of you hears the call of the open road and wants to give it a go then jump in, we all make misstakes said the dalek climbing off the dustbin…

Oh and as mentioned the other good thing about driving trucks is the ■■■■, being gods of the road women (or men depending on preference) look up to us with ■■■■ in their eyes and use us in their fantasys constantly. Well they do in my world anyway.

Going through my class 2 training at the mo and reading posts on here makes me wonder if i have ballsed up. Anybody with anything good to say about the industry wether it be firms/agencies, wages or just that they love it would be appreciated :frowning:

The games had it now

I enjoy my job wage is fine for me and my life.Get paid to look put the window all day and look at the views that are there. Some drivers on here will slate the job but takes time to find what you want to do and are happy doing.
Sometimes you will have a bad day but same as any job.Am a tramper away 4-5 nites per week get left alone to get on with it.

Talking to yourself is a first sign of madness

my tuppence worth …

I have always wanted to drive trucks , so now thats what I do . It has given me an oppuortunity so see places I never thought I would , and meet people I never would . I have , for me , THE perfect job , so yes …there’s plenty of good things about being a truck driver :sunglasses: :sunglasses:

so yes …there’s plenty of good things about being a truck driver :sunglasses: :sunglasses:

Like what…?

On top of the reasons listed, the fact you’re not in a field picking onions would be a starter for ten.

Like what…?

ok , well how about driving to Mocow and subsequently being able to not only see rural Russia , but visit Red Square and see the stuff tourists pay thousands for …for free . That do ya ?

Its things like this that I don’t understand like other drivers he says gone to Moscow and can see things for free was he on his break so most likely unpaid and away from his family or did he drive just to look at Red Square, could a Sainsbury driver on say the M6 just turn of and go look at the lights at Blackpool.

Oh dear
Ok Mac , lets try again . The OP asked if there was anything good about being a truck driver , and I said there was and gave an example . Just to clarify , I had to load in a gig in Gorky Park so was there anyway , I was on a break when I went sight seeing yes . I was also on full pay , which is a lot more than you think . It’s MY choice to work away , if I wanted to see Blackpool I’d get a trunking job and go at the weekend , on my UNPAID break wouldn’t I ■■

Why do some people have to see the negative in everthing ?

Not being negative but reading though this thread one off he main good things about being a driver is seeing things while working others don’t but what they don’t say they only see them though the window they cannot stop as my point about Blackpool how many drivers could just turn off and go something without the office ringing.

If you are experienced with a clean licence …

There is the sense of freedom arising from getting thru 3 different employers in a week !!

Not many jobs where that happens

In my current job I see Carcassonne castle every day. It is a sight you can never get tired of seeing, even after visiting it many times.

Mac …That was my point !! I dont have to go off route to see what I have seen , it’s part of the job I have , my truck driving job
Put it this way , I’m typing this from Milan , where I have been , on full pay since last Sunday . I leave Mon /Tue next week . My time here is my own . If I wasn’t a truck driver I would never have this oppourtunity . Therefore , again , YES there are good things about being a truck driver .

But only for you, most drivers won’t be doing that work. I could never recommend any one to become a driver knowing the way the job now is, 10 to 15 years to me it was totally different. I no drivers who hate Sunday nights because they no they have got to get back in a truck on Monday morning but there is nothing else for them to do, I’m in my late 50s and left driving 18 months ago to work on the railway now get £30000 for a 35 hour week drivers can work double that every week but don’t earn double the money.

The ones I get jealous of, are the ones that get to UK seaside resorts every day and have their breaks overlooking the sea. Far better than the multi ethnic Midland crapholes I have to endure some days.

The beauty about the job is that you don’t have to stay in one job, don’t like it move on.

There’s enough variation out there to please everyone, no i wouldn’t want to be stuck in a poxy ■■■■ stinking noisy MSA every night, just one of the reasons i wouldn’t go back to my old company on the cars (have to stop at somewhere like that or a depot), no way am i sitting in a bloody tin can in a layby beside a major road, and i couldn’t deliver full time to RDC’s listening to the type of unnecessary wingeing and whining that so many here are olympic gold medallist winners at.

There’s hundreds of different jobs out there, if you want to be able to move onto better work go out and find it, it won’t come to you which is what too many think, if you’re prepared to graft or use your loaf on some of the more specialised work, or own account easy life like supermarkets, you can increase your average rate per hour actually spent at work considerably.

As for me, the actual driving part now is ultimately boring because there is no longer any skill pleasure nor satisfaction to be enjoyed by selecting D and pointing the the modern excuses we have for lorries up the road.
A chimp could drive a modern lorry and any bloody fool can point a lorry up a motorway/dual carriageway, which just goes to prove how bad standards have dropped, because the modern driver can’t even steer an automatic lorry up a straight road, where everyone is going the same way, without crashing into one another.

I don’t drive now as I have a different job, but there as with any job positives and negatives - to me positives are your basically left to it unless you have a ■■■■■■ firm, you can sit and listen to the radio see some great sights and views whilst being paid.

negatives - start times can screw your body clock up, drivers moan and groan like ■■■■ and whilst I am possibly of the rose tinted glasses brigade somewhat, in the 90’s we had a lot more time and respect for each other.

Yes, you get paid to sit down and listen to music all day, whilst enjoying changing scenery. If you don’t have other qualifications, this sure beats being paid £6/hr to sweat and work non stop in a fast food restaurant or £7-9/hr to sweat and work non stop in a warehouse.

Downside is you can have little control of your finish times and due to the nature of the job you can’t just up and leave at a moment’s notice in the day if something crops up.
