Is there a worse piece of driving than this situation?

I’m coming down the sliproad of the M11 the other day. I’ve got 44 tons and a weak fleet spec motor. Also got liquid on, so I naturally take the bend in the slip road steady. There’s a wagon behind, when we both straighten up nearing the end of the slip road, he gets straight on to the motorway in lane 1, then power on to pass me, forcing me to brake hard and encroach the hard shoulder. He couldn’t have moved into lane two because it was extremely busy, but I think him overtaking me like that was dangerous and pig ignorant.

Obviously I was ■■■■■■ off, this sort of caper from car drivers is expected, but by a professional wagon driver unforgivable IMO.

Can you think of a worse driving situation than this, because I think this is the worst by miles.

You didn’t even figure in his thoughts did you. The way of the world today, ignorance.

The driver would of obviously known your intention to join lane one like him. So I wouldn’t of braked. He would get two options brake himself or meet the side of my trailer.

I take it you have never driven liquid tankers :unamused:

just one of many arrogant/thick hgv drivers on the road today.
they thrash about like they are some kind of driving god,and whilst ever they get away with it…theyll carry on.they dont actually realise how stupid they look, when theyre stood at the side of the motorway next to a crumpled truck..or worse. our only crumb of comfort, when we come up against one of these morons..is that one day theyll come unsuck…and they will…one day.
just like riding a bike,if you take liberties for long enough…youll eventually have an "off". Q.why do motorcycle racers crash  A.because they are constantly taking librties. its no dirrerent on the road…unfortunatly theres every chance theyll involve someone else, which is sad

coming up the 42,yesterday afternoon.sainsburys tanker cuts in about 6 feet in front of me,then 20 seconds later he`s got the r/h indicator on…trying to pull out again.
lane 2 is solid…does he wait  …does he ■■■■
he shimmies right, causing cars in lane 2 to panic brake, then drops in the gap this has caused :unamused:

I was on the A14 heading to Northampton sitting there nicely listening to music. This artic came past me and i flashed him in, he said thank you. I noticed he was catching up with another truck up ahead. He moves in to lane 2 to do an overtake. As he was level the truck in lane 1 puts his foot down and leaves him in lane 2.

Now that was ■■■■ poor driving from the truck in lane 1 and a ■■■■ to!

I’ve seen this a lot where trucks put the indicators on and then just pull out in to lane 2. Dangerous driving that is and could cause an accident

When i am being over taken, i simply press the speed limiter button for a few seconds to allow the truck to pass, i do not lose any time and everyone is happy, or a quick dab on the brakes then back up to speed when he/she has got past.

I think I would have still kept on the power up the h/s. As he passed look him in the eye and give him the Gareth Hunt - he’ll know what he’s done. I used to do this but it all goes over my head now. It is still ignorant tho’

There I am lane two clockwise M25 Pm rush hour, M3 junction on my way to M1. You all know the situation, the traffic is heavy, however for some strange reason it is actually moving quite swiftly. As we pass M4 Junction I notice a White Scania Topline (solo) in lane 3, moving at similar speed to me,( now @ 55mph on cruise). Anyway he is catching me very slowly, eventually coming along side. Now the fun starts, for some reason he starts indicating that he would like to pull into lane 2, Okay i thought if you haven’t got the speed to overtake me, come in behind me. Wrong, now he is flashing his lights, so I check mirrors, nothing hanging off the trailer no bits of tyre flying off, what’s his problem? Cant see the driver due to reflection on windscreen, no blue lights so it cant be one of those Police Units, still he keeps crawling forward. Almost level with my cab he starts on the Horn, now I think there must be something wrong with my Truck I again check the mirrors, nothing to see, just as I look over at him, he jumps on the brakes passes behind me and nips off on to M40 giving me all sorts hand gestures flashing lights and noise.
WTF have I done? I was moving at a constant speed passing the slower traffic in lane 1. Is it me? Apologies for the rant, but for some reason it really has bugged me. Andy.

I blame the “job and knock” culture, and overzealous planners.

Remove both from the equation, and everyone would be quite happy to potter along at a safe speed, as I do.
The M11/M25 junction is notorious for rolling artics, with plenty of warning signs to that effect.
Doesn’t stop people from driving like idiots though, and overtaking in another artic on the 30mph adverse camber bit. It’s the car transporters doing it that makes me the most nervous though, especially in poor visibility. I really don’t want some car on my head, because I didn’t see it to avoid it! :frowning:

If the hard shoulder was safe to use then I would not have braked but used that as an extension to the slip road

The other driver is a numpty - end of

your joining a flow of traffic the lines dividing the main carriageway and the slip road are a GIVE WAY and before anyone sounds off how many times do we hear of a driver pulling onto the carriageway and holding them out there

Should be speed cameras on the M11/M25 especially at that adverse camber bit.Slow em down for 5 seconds. That’ll teach em !

Yeah but they were both coming down the slip road.
It’s just ■■■■ driving as know one knows who is faster on the limiter yet.

More like zb road design of putting more than one lane on entry slips which obviously results in conflict between two vehicles entering a motorway close together or even side by side in which case either one or the other often gets carved up one way or another. It might work in the case of a much faster car but larger vehicles/trucks shouldn’t be allowed to use the extra lanes on entry slip roads only single file on entry. :bulb:

That makes sense as a truck can’t accelerate like a car to get out of trouble.

TBH - in most cases the trucks will use lane one of the slip and follow each other onto the main carriageway with the smaller faster vehicles using lane two and either making or being forced to make space (their own fault for not making the space) for the heavies if they cannot get out into lane two

Rarely have I seen one heavy deliberately block in another

Got to love car drivers and slip roads

I backed off to 50ish, car coming up my offside which luckily backed off so i could pull out.

That’s fairly typical. Mind you, I was speaking to the Father-in-Law and he was, until I set him right, under the impression that vehicles joining had priority. He’s 67.
