Is it the end of the road for Top Gear? [MERGED]

the maoster:
It does amuse me when people feign outrage at Clarkson, it’s a bit like buying tickets to see Chubby Brown and then complaining about the language!

Most of the ones who complain about him the most have never actually heard him. They read someone elses condemnation and jump on the bandwagon.

I long ago gave up trying to tell you anything, BECAUSE. YOU. JUST. DONT. LISTEN. The information is out there to educate yourself, so maybe you should give it a go. Who knows, maybe a youtube video will tell you all. We all know how fond of YouTube videos you are…

Youtube or even Clarkson himself couldn’t possibly tell anyone how a 1.5 litre engine is going to stay with let alone outrun a 400 bhb V8 M5 when the I8’s battery has discharged itself long before the M5 has run out of petrol.

IE the ‘combined’ power of the electric motor has gone with the battery charge and won’t be back ‘until’ the battery has been ‘re charged’ which takes longer than it does to discharge it. :bulb: :unamused:

Sorry if the facts don’t fit the Green Party/BBC script and ‘that’s’ more like the reason why the BBC want Top Gear and especially Clarkson to be taken out.Not because he did a Prescott in allegedly trying to thump someone as Norvernors are obviously inclined to do when they get upset about anything. :smiling_imp:

It would actually but you won’t listen. You seem to think the sole purpose of the i8 is to out run other cars. You may like willy waving competitions everytime you get in a car but most of us dont. Its real purpose is a showcase for new technology. As a former engineer id have thought you’d be interested in such a technological leap as the i8. But no, your xenophobia even blinds you when it comes to cars

I do find your conspiracy funny tho. Years and years and years of Clarkson being against all things green and you think he changed that because someone told him to review the i8 positively. Like every review I’ve ever seen of it. Just admit it, it’s an amazing car. If it was a Jag or and Aston you’d be bleeting on about how good it is. Unless of course your hatred of anything that could be even possibly green and different over powers your xenophobia!

Good lord. Those Greens must be rolling in it, look at all these positive reviews they paid for…

Thats just from the first page on a search for ‘BMW i8 review’. This video is a bit dry but informative. Lets not forget that one of the reasons it took so long to come to market was because BMW had to invent a way to mass produce carbon fibre in large quantities and then build a factory. Which is in the US Carryfast, Southern US too. We all know how you love southern states US…

So maybe, just maybe Clarkson meant what he says about the i8…

Stupid me, of course he didn’t. Carryfast is never wrong. He may not have driven the i8 (or any hybrid by sounds of what he’s saying) but how can he possibly be wrong…

If it was bias then I’d obviously view the idea of the Jaguar CX-75 differently but I don’t.

As for the ‘purpose’ of the I8 I don’t care about that either. What I’ve said is that the hype ‘should’ say that the I8 is a highly stressed 1.5 litre car with a short range, temporary, battery dependent electric motor back up which can be used seperately to,or in combination with, the small 1.5 engine. In which case that should be made clear in terms of describing the thing’s power outputs and performance figures.Which as I’ve said Clarkson’s description didn’t seem to do.Assuming all that is made clear then it’s just a case of personal choice. But the way I see it is that it is an expensive way to drive a 1.5 litre car.Especially when it gets into the used market where post warranty maintenance becomes an increasing issue.

While if it isn’t about outrunning anything or even just making quick progress then there is obviously no reason to stress the engine to well over 100 bhp per litre. When well under 100 bhp per litre would be more than adequate in that case.Nor for a 100 bhp + electric motor when less than half that would do thereby increasing range of the batteries.

As for me if I was going to buy a BMW I’d go for that under £10.000 E39 M5 with a proper engine and box in it.

Carryfast:

Why bring it up then? Oh yeah, so you could make up one of your conspiracy theories…

You haven’t read a single thing about it have you? If you had you’d see how every review talks quite extensively about how its powered. What ‘you’ think it ‘should’ say is the sort of uninformed balls you come out with over and over again.

How about the Porsche 918 Plug In, or is that too German and/or green for you? Its got a big V8. We all know how much you like big engines.

As I read it as just one example the Autocar performance figures quoted it as outrunning a 911 or a Jag F type.

What they didn’t seem as keen to quote was just engine power alone performance figures while stating the caveat that the former figures were all limited electric range dependent. :bulb: :unamused:

While you seem to believe that isn’t the case.

It must be the big green conspiracy! They all make it perfectly plain how the performance figures are arrived at. And talk at length about how it is powered. You read a small part of one review and think you know it all. As usual. Have you ever driven a hybrid?

Another ruined thread courtesy of the big word brothers.

happysack:
Top gear is crap. Nothing about cars for working class blokes. But I Still watch it every week. In fact I only watch that and country file most weeks. Occasionally antiques roadshow.

I watch it with the wife and daughter. It’s the only thing we all agree on to watch. If it was a car program comparing the focus, astra and some french thing, would we watch? Very much doubt it.

Plus Jeremy has decent dress sense. I’d sack James May for wearing trainers.

Riveting stuff

This thread will transpire in to a 20 pager, more popcorn  ?

More riveting than you and your friend discussing things.

Id say on about the same level at best. But then I wasn’t whinging about what others post so…stones, green houses and all that…

Sigh

I’m so sorry. Finding people talking about cars on a post about Top Gear must have been troubling for you. Lets go back to the presenters dress sense since you’re more comfortable with that topic    Jeremys dress sense is awful

Oh sorry. You were discussing cars? Many apologies. I must go back and read the posts then. I maybe just presumed when I saw endless posts by you and carryfast that it wouldn’t be anything worth reading. Just the usual arguments, contradictions and hand bag flapping. Anyway must dash I’ve got an appointment at the hairdressers to get my teeth curled.

James May with the floral shirts, hair style from the 70,s, Wurzel Gummidge was tidier.
Hammond looks like he is on amphetamines, spaced out, saucer eyes.
Clarky dresses like a wealthy arable farmer.
" Oi, get off my land you peasants ."

The Beeb have to do something.Clarkson has gotten to big for his boots and thrown the toys out of his pram.I hope that the man he assaulted presses charges behaviour like that shouldnt be tolerated from anybody. This says much about the catering trade, why was the kitchen closed when they could have been open for business. They were most likely staying at an up market establishment with fairly high prices so the Top Gear party ought to have been able to have a proper meal after their work.

It is ironic that the topic ( rightly ) turned into an argument as to wether ‘Hybrids’ etc etc are just an overcomplicated expensive silly con based on smoke and mirrors to appease the greens like those who run the BBC.Or that Clarkson was or wasn’t gagged in the I8 episode regards same.Or that Clarkson has probably finally snapped when he could no longer stand being told what to say by the stalinist green control freaks.

Some could have said exactly the same about Prescott whose actions didn’t seem to fit the exact rule of law in that regard. But the leftists can obviously apply double standards when it suits them.

Good old two shags, the young ones on here wont know about him though.
