Is it a good thing

Just want peoples opinions on something as I haven’t a clue what to make of this at all. As many are aware I’m in a warehouse on an apprenticeship now sparing out the B.s of how it isn’t a proper apprenticeship I’m not too bothered about that b.s,

The other 2 apprentices from what I can gather have had more training in other areas of the different roles in the warehouse as an operative style worker with little to no responsibility other than an operatives responsibility e.g making sure the picks are done correct and efficient, make sure packing is done on time. But I on the other hand have had less training in the roles of the operative with the main job i’ve had being picking and done little bits here and there or the odd day doing something or other, but the past month and a half or so I’ve been mainly put onto the second floor to do picks, but 75% of the time I’m being asked to ‘look after’ the second floor, e.g making sure everyone is doing their jobs and that the conveyor belt is empty and not stacking up with totes etc. What I’m struggling to work out is why the other two haven’t been given the same responsibility that I have. And is it a good thing that I’m given more responsibility to do so

Just wanted peoples opinions nothing else.

Cheers

It sounds like you take pride in what you do, so naturally they’ll look to you first to give a bit of free reign and supervisory experience.

Good for you. I imagine people will start asking if you’re getting paid more for it as a matter of course.

I take pride in everything I do, whether it’s packing knickers for a tescos customer  or taking a picture of a truck for a company there’s no point in doing a job half hearted. If you put effort in you’ll eventually get a reward at the end of it

And I’ll find out next week if I’ve earned my 25p wage increase  Although I won’t complain to a bit of extra cash in the bank :sunglasses: But what people think to my wages compared to what I think are two different things, after all it’s me that’s living off of them no one else :grimacing:

Fair play. As Muhammed Ali said… If I was a roadsweeper, I’d be the best ■■■■ roadsweeper in the world!

He had a good point.

Indeed he did! Although I’m glad today was my last day of my 4 on I’ll be glad of the rest  Although I’m a bit confused why I have been given my wage slip before my wage has actually gone into my bank…false hope of being paid maybe   Will find out tomorrow at least!

Cheers

Think the wage slip thing is normal mate, I get mine on a Thursday (available in the bosses top drawer from lunchtime)along with night out money and expenses in cash. Money doesnt go into the bank until about 3am on Friday morning.

It’s awkward because my wage has always been paid on a friday, as on the induction they said on the 25th of each month. But on my contract it states i get paid the last friday of each month wish a load of nonsense as I got paid on the 23rd last month, which obviously wasn’t the last friday of the month

I’ll find out tomorrow if I can raid my bank tomorrow  I think it’s going to be fun though in my review this month, I’ve not had any bad reports but no good ones either

I’ve done a couple of apprenticeships and have taught apprentices as well,

Sometimes you will wonder why certain decisions are against you and wonder if it is worth it, but believe me it all becomes clear at the end.

Apprenticeships are about 4 years long for a purpose, no matter what you think you don’t know everything after 6 months in a job.

Sent from a layby stroking one off.

I’d be straight on the blower to unite, dont stand for it!

As far as having more resposibility than the other two apprentices, two possibilities

a) they are thick and you are being treated possibly for advancement
B) they are not thick and are avoiding the extra work.

Whichever it is, you can only gain by this.It gives you a chance to show that you are up to the job.
Maybe you are being taken advantage of a bit but in a fairly insignificant way and if you’are happy…so be it!
A word of caution though…don’t build your hopes up too much on the strength of being given a bit of responsibility, bosses are adept at using “flattery” to get something for nothing.

I shouldn’t worry too much about your wage going in early, I doubt that they will forget and put it in twice by mistake

I think that i’ll be asking that in my review for why I’ve been given more responsibility as to whether they are putting me more to the side of the management side of the warehouse apprenticeship or whether they’re taking the ■■■■ and expecting me to do more for less money, especially if they say they aren’t bumping wages up I’ll be asking them to stop putting me into a more responsible role if they’re not willing to reward me for it. But i’ll find out more next week

Maybe a bit early to be getting “stroppy”.
However you make a future union rep!

It’s not that I’m getting stroppy but if the other two are getting their wages bumped up for having less responsibility and I don’t it’s hardly fair is it? And I won’t be signing upto any unions thanks, a waste of money in my opinion :grimacing:

I didn’t see a mention of the others getting a pay rise.
Whislt I have always believed in standing you corner and being assertive, there are times when you are in a weak position and need to think very carefully beofre doing anything.
I doubt that anyone can give you meaningful advice without knowing all the facts re you and the other two.
Best I could advise at present would be to mention at your review that you are aware of the discrepancies and wondered if there is a particular reason for them.

and here’s a thought… if you were in a union you could get advice from someone who knows the situation rather than asking a load of truckers on a forum where no one really knows your particular circumstances… just a thought you understand.

I know that Del, I was just wanting peoples opinions really. And I assumed people would have knew the other 2 would have had a pay rise if they’ve been doing alright. But I will ask about it at the review hopefully I will have done rather well considering  :grimacing:

No, but it was last day a BACS payment could have been made to you before the 25th, which was a Sunday

Maybe worth clarifying exactly when your wages should be in your bank account, if you’ve got conflicting information.

I was put right by one of the lads at work, as we’re all paid on the same days which he was kind enough to give me the info e.g the last 2 payment dates dated on the 25th were on weekends making the payments made on friday before. But if the 25th is on during the week then you get paid on that date. Which is fair enough, but annoying when HR team are as useful as a chocolate teapot when it comes to handing out information :smiling_imp:

It sounds like you’re catching on quick! After only 6 months I’d keep my head down and keep up the good work, too many questions can make you look like a trouble maker.

It will be interesting to see how things pan out with Jonny. :grimacing:

I’ve only been in the job 3 months coming into my 4 month now, but they have reviews after 4 and 12 weeks. So if I get through this review OK i should know if I’m in a good position or not  And I try not to ask too many questions, just ones that I think need to be asked so I know if I need to work around things.
