Is Aldi self tip?

scotstrucker:
Aldi and lidl aint a self tip for me as company rules state that it,s the customers responsability to load or empty trailer, drivers duty is to secure the load, open or close curtains or doors only, 9 times out of 10 they reject it

Why do you even go there then if that’s your policy?

I dare say some companies are going to have to adjust their ‘policies’ because Aldi (especially) and Lidl are only going to get bigger and bigger in the coming years. Probably a bit daft to exclude yourself from running any loads into them, for the sake of the driver grabbing an electric pallet truck and quickly unloading some pallets. Hardly requires much effort and usually quicker than sitting in the cab waiting for someone else to do it - would have thought a haulage firm would be in favour of a procedure that gets them out of an RDC quicker.

I go where my boss tells me 2 and he goes where the customer tells him to, the customers know the rule and if they decide to ignore it then that there choice. The reason the rule was implemented is because 3 drivers put in claims for various injuries caused by pushing and pulling heavy pallets in a trailer at the insistince of some well known supermarket chain ( no not the 2 mentioned already ) none of the custmers hav dropped us or restricted the work they give us, if there is a problem then we get office to call them. Only been turned away from 1 customer so far and that was marks n spencer at barnsley as they wont go into trailer with electric barows and wont tip it outside with forklift.

Please select the correct tacho mode switch while working in the trailer.Crossed hammers.
It has been known for the Vosa to obtain keys and check the mode or wait outside recording your activity.
A Pod with the times on will show a record.
Aldi at Manchester, this has happened and a fine for tacho fraud.
Lidl is self tip.
I think it is quicker and you get some exercise.

Aldi at Chelmsford has had the VOSA waiting outside too.

Do several Lidl’s on containers (palletised) we allways get asked if we’re ok driver assist 1st, I’m allright with it quick tip, and get to play with electric barrow

I havent read all the posts, so if I’m repeating somerhing that allready been said appolligies. This thing about insurance is alot to do with what on your contract, when I was at the Slaughter house I was a driver/porter, as part off my duties were portering, most contracts tend to have a catch all “duties as requiered” which I beleave would cover most aspects off work, and keep you covered, I might be wrong, but I’m right about driver/porter

does make me chuckle reading some of the posts, you all manage to drive around a 44 tonne truck all day but you can’t work out how to use an electric pallet truck, even without training it doesn’t take a mensa mind!!! one button for up and down and one for backwards and forwards, ah but then again it could be just down to laziness

I waited in all the Lidl’s for over 5 hours each just waiting for paperwork, I don’t know how that’s getting out quicker?

i know a lot, maybe most drivers / companies don’t give a ■■■■ about the wtd but i’m surprised it hasn’t been used against self tips

More to do with the chip-on-the-shoulder attitude of finding a reason not to do things than do it. The company is paying for the driver’s time and to expect him to jump on an electric pallet truck to tip the trailer on said time is not unreasonable no matter how many jump up and down in a huff about it.

I prefer tipping myself, quicker and I get a spot of exercise. Some drivers just like moaning about everything. Its no different to tipping at some of tha small places we go with a pallet truck. In fact some of them I have to drive the forklift and drag the pallets to the back door with the pallet truck. I’m a hero!

I too would like to see more details from Fatboy Slimslow about that unfortunate Canute drivers death whilst self tipping.

I can not see why Bertie can not help you out a bit.
He has got arms and legs, make him pay for his board and lodgings in your cab.Getting free rides over Europe where tourists pay to go it is not on in my book.
Poor Bertie.

Big boots.
I have said select correct tacho mode switch in an earlier post.
Can you read and why repeat it ?

Slightly irrelevant- but many years ago I loaded out of Italy for Aldi at Darlington on arrival I was told it was self tip- which I found strange as the two Italian guys I had loaded from the same place, and run up with through Europe, with didn’t have too- messaged my planner and he said tip it if you can but don’t take any chances damaging the goods as they will sign as your fault- so being diligent I unclipped the curtains to ensure no goods where damaged and accidently drove the pallet truck off the side of the truck - for which I received an apparent life time ban from all Aldi sites- as you can tell I was gutted- my planner couldn’t stop laughing

Great story Rikki, made i laff…I worked for a guy who did a lot of work for sainsburys and rdcs, anyway one day i got a load for Lidl Erith, never been there in my life, so off i go, booked in round one side of the warehouse, then had to travel half a mile to the other side of the site to tip, booking in gave me the door number, so i duly backed on, and got my newspaper out, after about half an hour, the driver next to me said i have to unload myself, so being as i like to be awkward, and like a row, duly went inside to the desk, gave them a bit of paper i was given at booking in, then they said to go to my bay, find a truck and unload it, the warehouse bod would tell me where i had to put it, so i pointed out that i was employed as a driver, which meant collecting from point A and delivering to point B, that went straight over their heads, so i then said, if you dont want the goods, in can take them away, to which they replied, OK..so i made my way back to the truck when the phone goes, it was my boss, Didnt i tell you it was a self tip…NO…well it is, so i replied that he had better get his backside down here to unload it, as i was employed as a driver, and im not going to, to which he replied Ill give you £30, cash, to which i replied, ok, ill call you when i`m tipped. Back inside the warehouse, i was shown an electric truck, and being clever, said i cant use one of them, so they duly brought me a manual one, wish in had kept my big mouth shut, ha ha i did get an electric one though, anyway by the time i was finished, so was the truck, i bashed it into posts, it did look a mess with all the panels bent.
The motto of this story is if drivers do not unload themselves, Lidl + Aldi cannot compete with the big supermarkets, and would have to put their prices up, which means I will pay more for my shopping, and thats not fair.
