Is Aldi self tip?

I had to sign in. The note at the top of the form said, " I confirm I’ve been trained to operate pallet trucks" I told the girl behind the desk that I had not actually been trained. Without replying she went to a truck, pressed buttons saying, “up, down, forwards, backwards… you’ve been trained”
I think that was the extended course.

Yeah its self tip, our employer covers us for insurance in the event of an accident, as their insurance won’t cover loss of earnings, if you brake a leg etc. I’ve never collected return pallets from Aldi only at Lidl. Paperwork is really quick at Aldi, Lidl is another story some of our lads have waited 10 hours at Belvedere and Enfield, my worst is 4.5 hours (not including time to tip) at Runcorn.

One minute you have drivers shouting health and saftey gone mad about handing keys in now there playing the H&S card about getting off there arse shifting a few pallets. Got to be better than sitting in some waiting room for hours.

I was asked on Saturday if I could operate a fork lift. I told them yes but didn’t have a licence. No problem. Nobody died.

If you do not sign to say you have been “trained”, They normally either give you a set of hand trucks, or stick you on the worst bay they have and let you fester while they think about getting you tipped.

You’re missing out then, the idea is to grab a few stacks of the best pallets you can find, whizz them round your local pallet yard and flirt them

I’ve made more than my wages doing that in the past

Aye that’s all very well until there is a serious accident or worse a fatal and the proverbial will then hit the fan big time. Eddie.

Absobleedinlutely! Perks of the job. Bloke at Lidl Darlington once encouraged me to put as many as I could fit on! Didn’t need asking twice.

dont shove it on break, vostapo hang around outside checking tachos because they know it’s a self tip.

Definitely a perk of the Job. Aldi Naas is the best. Was told to take 90 brand new ish euros once. Nice couple o quid for the weekend. [THUMBS UP SIGN][THUMBS UP SIGN]

I have only ever tipped a load of longlife milk from Belgium at the ALDI at Atherstone I think it was. Load was on a CMR note, and foolishly sat on the bay, doors open, waiting for a tip.

I wondered why everyone else was getting unloaded except me. No one told me you had to unload yourself, I ended up asking to see a copy of their insurance when told to unload with one of their electric trucks. I could not find any reference on it to for someone not in the companys employ to use their equipment.

I did reluctantly do it, but was not comfortable in doing so, I’m not an unpaid warehouseman for ALDI or any other company, but did not want to get turned away for refusing either.

+1

Ive never seen anyone collect pallets at an Aldi, we deliver there often. Lidl is a different matter, were expected to colect euros to take back to the depot.

Big boots.
I have said select correct tacho mode switch in an earlier post.
Can you read and why repeat it ?

No probs. there’s ride on electric pallet truck at some but they can be lethal if you turn too quick. IMO 1 of the best places to go.

Self tip ?I think it is wrong that you are expected to tip a load for a company,do they drive your truck ?Thanks

it’s ILLEGAL! :sunglasses: I’m glad you’re one of the few who think its wrong! if you broke your leg there, would they drive you home? :imp: and they’re not insured! :smiling_imp: :bulb: :unamused:

All Companies like Aldi are obliged to have third party insurance irrespective, in case of accident on their premises, its not illegal to unload yourself.
If you do have an accident and your employed by someone ring them up and let them sort out how you get home

dream on! :sunglasses: when you’ve broken your leg and you’re off for six months with NO PAY! :imp: tell me they’re insured! Twenty years ago at Swindon, it’s a long way back to Manchester, because no one at ALDI ( THEIR UNIFORM SAID ALDI! ) could drive me home! :smiling_imp: once bitten, twice shy! :open_mouth: so most of you are warehouse operatives for ALDI? Or the East German Stasi ? Get real guys, you ain’t insured and I’d like to see you live for six months with no pay after YOU’VE BEEN TRAINED BY THEIR SHIFT MANAGER! :grimacing: :grimacing: :grimacing: :grimacing:

If your employed by a Company you are insured or should be to undertake the duties of your employment if your not ask your boss why not.
Employment laws have moved on in 20 years

What on earth was the wife doing on bay 4.
Seriously though did she sue Lidl for gross negligence, if so do your have link to the court case. What are the facts surrounding this as regardless of insurance, Lidl, Aldi have deep pockets and would settle out of court at the meer whisper of legal action regarding a fatality on their premises due to their incompetence/negligence…
Links to press articles etc greatly appreciated.

Aldi and lidl aint a self tip for me as company rules state that it,s the customers responsability to load or empty trailer, drivers duty is to secure the load, open or close curtains or doors only, 9 times out of 10 they reject it

You are lucky, in this country (USA) you have to pay for an unloader to take the stuff off your trailer and it’s not cheap either ‘Lumpers’ as they are known sometimes charge up to $500.00 a load, if you don’t pay them you don’t get off loaded. Mob run thieves.
