I cannot believe… well, actually I can, that drivers actually think that not only when they’ve come barrelling down a hill at 70mph because they’re heavy and then run out of puff, that those minding their own business in the inside lane should suddenly alter their speed to let the idiot back in, but that it’s all right to try to bully someone onto the hard shoulder!
Exactly, I’d have let him in if he indicated, but pulling in and trying to be a bully… Either have let him take my mirror off or dropped back and over took him then slowed down repeatedly, for the next 50 miles
I hate when i’m sitting behind a truck on a rural road (usually a supermarket truck,) they are doing the speed limit, 40mph, then you get another truck driving inches off the back of my car, as if by tailing me is going to make the Co-op or Tesco truck go faster
I’ve noticed the M42/A42 (northbound) split becoming a pain for these kind of idiots. They start to overtake you at full throttle, then as the road changes from motorway to dual carriageway (usually half way past you), they back off to 50mph. It seems to have happened a couple of times now. What is the bloody point?
Mike-C:
Interesting that you though it was a plan to “floor it to get in front of him”. The Highway Code thinks this is not the thing to do…
funny you didn’t notice THIS bit of dangerous driving though isn’t it Mike?

if you weren’t so ■■■■■■■ selective about what you consider dangerous, you might have decided to criticize the ■■■■■■■■ in the artic instead of the poor sod in the van who nearly got wiped out by the ■■■■■ but hey, let’s not say anything about lorry drivers eh?
kr79:
Exactly. When im in my car theres nothing worse than been stuck behind two lorrys doing 0.2 mph difference
Yea and there’s nothing bloody worse than the truck driver who wants to pull out to overtake but can’t because of all you bloody car drivers middle lane hogging, when was the last time you saw a car overtake, indicate, then pull into the inside lane :mrgree,99.9% of truck drivers do though don’t they : ,bloody car drivers having a pop at us,whatever next
If you weren’t quite so self obsessed you’d know KR79 is a long standing truck driving member of this forum. So get down off your rickity high horse.
Thanks switch glad someone noticed im not just a car driver who thinks il go and post on a lorry forum.
Christ dozy do you not drive a car when your not at work or does stobart let you take the rig home.
When im in my car i always try to make life easier for trucks by not diving across three lanes at motorway exits giving them space when pulling out of somewhere etc but its because i csn see the situation from there a non hgv driver has no idea or intrest in what its like same as i have no idea or interest how my central heating works as long as it does.
Yes we all know theres bad car motorbike bus taxi coach driving and cycling but theres also crap hgv driving out there but no one here seems to want to hear it.
switchlogic:
… or if doing one or two km faster on limiter they pull out just as uphill is starting despite them being heavy, get a couple of meters up my trailer …
I sometimes do that if there’s no one in the middle lane, but only because I don’t want to hit the bottom of a hill going slower than my limiter allows me to go. I’d never get angry with someone for continuing at their own speed though, what’s the point?

Oh, right. A lorry “flashing past”, “he’s not past me yet”.
Quandry, what to do? As a poor sod in a van do we …
Ease up and let him in?
Pull onto a hard shoulder and floor it to get back in front of him?
Now leaving aside the Highway Code, leaving aside the HGV probably shouldn’t be doing 65mph, what does commonsense tell you to do? Also pay attention to what the OP says, why would you have to “floor it” to get past a HGV that is slowing down? But hey, thats how people get killed, luckily i won’t be one of them because i don’t want to be overtaken by a HGV i can assure you. You however can do as you choose, and if that means playing chicken with a artic, good luck to ya !!!

Back to my roots today multi dropping in a transit helping out my mate. Had a few deliveries in Dundee, on the way home going down a hill doing about 65mph when a truck who I wont name comes flashing past the inevitable happens he slows down on the flat hes not past me yet. What he did next appalled me instead of falling back into the first lane, he decides to start squeezing over to get me to slow down I had to move into hard shoulder then floor it to get in front of him, truly shocking bit of driving

Being overtaken. If a driver is trying to overtake you, maintain a steady course and speed, slowing down if necessary to let the vehicle pass. Never obstruct drivers who wish to pass. Speeding up or driving unpredictably while someone is overtaking you is dangerous. Drop back to maintain a two-second gap if someone overtakes and pulls into the gap in front of you.
Back to your roots driving vans eh?
I fully intended to slow down to let him pass as I earn a living doing the same as him driving hgvs ,until he clearly started to move over to squeeze me or bully me into slowing down. Imo hgv or any driving is all about forward planning his planning and reading the road was wrong, then to compound it he decided to bully/intimidate call it what you will

Ok mate. None of that happened though, he kept going and so did you. The plan was he should of tucked back in and you where gonna slow down? That would of been fun. Its up to you what you do.

You HAD to■■?
Brakes not working on the Transit?
Yes the artic driver was BANG in the wrong for what he did.
But why wouldn’t you back off?
I’m miles from perfect as a driver and I’m not casting aspersions I just question if running in the hard shoulder and “flooring it” to get in front of him was the best move.
Why not ease off (cover the brakes to warn those behind that you are slowing) and give the ■■■■ in the artic plenty of room to make his mistake??

His cab was barely past me when he started to move over & I had another hgv behind me imo this was my only option
Except moving into the hard shoulder and slowing down but you HAD to get in front of him right?
I started off thinking the artic driver was a ■■■■■■■ idiot and you had acting hastily and if I’m honest poorly. But I’m starting to think the artic driver is a ■■■■■■■ idiot and you allowed him to anger you into some equally ■■■■ poor driving

I used to think Mike was a bit if a knob tbh. But actually more of what he says makes sense the more experienced I get.
Before coming on here I was an 8 year class 1 driver who had all the answers and couldn’t learn (I joined to inpart knowledge)
Since reading posts from all types of drivers I’ve realised how much I still have to learn as do lots of others.
Mike’s swift correction of my way if posting helped me with that.
Is he my favourite user on here? no.
Is he absolutely correct in his evaluation of the OPs driving? ■■■■ yeah.
Can we all learn from each other? Definitely, none of us have all the answers and the minute we think we do it’s time to pack it in.
OP perhaps now you’ll see that driving faster in a dangerous situation is seldom the correct thing to do.
