Back to my roots today multi dropping in a transit helping out my mate. Had a few deliveries in Dundee, on the way home going down a hill doing about 65mph when a truck who I wont name comes flashing past the inevitable happens he slows down on the flat hes not past me yet. What he did next appalled me instead of falling back into the first lane, he decides to start squeezing over to get me to slow down I had to move into hard shoulder then floor it to get in front of him, truly shocking bit of driving
there are clowns driving all sizes of vehicles. looks like you came across one driving an arctic.
I only hope all of the ■■■■ of the day got kicked up as you blasted along the hard shoulder
There’s a lot to be said for forward facing dashboard cameras.

Yea, when do we get the channel open on here ?. then we can see peoples thrill o the day
Maybe the same one who started to drift across from lane 2 on the Tay bridge on Monday afternoon when only 2/3rds of the way past me? Was it red & French? I gave him an almighty blast on the horn…there’s no shoulder on there to swerve onto, just a long watery drop!

Interesting that you though it was a plan to “floor it to get in front of him”. The Highway Code thinks this is not the thing to do…

Being overtaken. If a driver is trying to overtake you, maintain a steady course and speed, slowing down if necessary to let the vehicle pass. Never obstruct drivers who wish to pass. Speeding up or driving unpredictably while someone is overtaking you is dangerous. Drop back to maintain a two-second gap if someone overtakes and pulls into the gap in front of you.
Back to your roots driving vans eh?

That what I was thinking, we can all get a bit of a Hoof on down the hills then she’ll drop back down to 55/56 on the flat, as a HGV Driver (driving a van for the day) you would have known that ?
Should have let him pass, then overtaken him on the flat.
Having said that, the HGV should have stayed in lane 2 while Mr Transit Driver (for the day) played the ‘Let’s match the Lorry’s Speed’ game.
Sounds like he thought that he’d passed you & you were in his blind spot.
(Then the confrontation began ! UNLEASH HELL !)
I think he knew exactly what was happening but was simply keeping up appearances with being a van driver for the day
Well I think its about time truck drivers starting using their brains instead of pulling stupid stunts like this. You can see the flat coming, and if you’ve been driving any length of time can judge if you can get past. Happens to me all the time, they pull out right before the end of a hill, or if doing one or two km faster on limiter they pull out just as uphill is starting despite them being heavy, get a couple of meters up my trailer then get angry when I zoom off up the hill or along the flat. The lorry driver was sadly an all too typical lorry driving moron that we have these days. Notice the van driver said he sped up only once on the hard shoulder? Putting people on the hard should is insanely dangerous, think of that before anyone defends a ■■■ with a licence. Some of these worst driving by far that I see these days are from trucks. And then people wonder why others dont respect us.
Exactly. When im in my car theres nothing worse than been stuck behind two lorrys doing 0.2 mph difference

Great post switchlogic and sadly mostly true.I am glad someone else on here admits and notices all the poor driving from so called professionals.
Every day I go out on the road and see truck drivers driving like complete morons without any thought for their own safety or anybody elses.
Some on here say truck drivers standards have not dropped but from what you see on the roads these days the standard could not get much lower.
Do not get me wrong there are still good drivers about but it seems easier these days to spot the bad ones.
The sad thing is most of them probably do not even realise!

Yea and there’s nothing bloody worse than the truck driver who wants to pull out to overtake but can’t because of all you bloody car drivers middle lane hogging, when was the last time you saw a car overtake, indicate, then pull into the inside lane
:mrgree,99.9% of truck drivers do though don’t they

,bloody car drivers having a pop at us,whatever next
As I see it the ‘must get in front’ mentality of car drivers has moved to trucks. And its sad. I see it all the time, hell bent on getting in front, and treats coming off cruise control like they are in Speed and the truck will blow up if they do. Its only a little switch. What gets me is how people dont realise driving in a calm considerate way makes for an easy relaxing journey. A delivery time is never a reason to drive badly. It will get there when it gets there. I’ve been driving long enough now to realise that the odd late load is insignificant. But you only have to make one big mistake on the road to change yours and others lives for the worse. No job is worth that.

If you weren’t quite so self obsessed you’d know KR79 is a long standing truck driving member of this forum. So get down off your rickity high horse.
When lorry drivers park up, isn’t it fair to assume they are then pedestrians, cyclists, motorcyclists, or car drivers?
From my experience, it is usually the professional lorry driver that let folks out of side roads and the professional lorry driver that drops his truck across carriageways to protect the people in the accident up ahead.
In contrast there are the muppets that continue to block off the middle lane, when they can easily drop back until after the incline, those that shed loads causing absolute bedlam and those that go ploughing into stationary traffic, because they are totally detached from what is happening in front of them.
Some people strive to be better drivers, irrespective of whatever they are driving at the time.
I cannot believe… well, actually I can, that drivers actually think that not only when they’ve come barrelling down a hill at 70mph because they’re heavy and then run out of puff, that those minding their own business in the inside lane should suddenly alter their speed to let the idiot back in, but that it’s all right to try to bully someone onto the hard shoulder!
Those who think it is OK please send your licenses back to Swansea. You have no business driving trucks.
It doesn’t even take forward planning to anticipate what’s likely to happen. Just the slightest understanding of actually driving a loaded lorry.
