Inquest.

MR VAIN:
I have one thing that really bothers me,and that was my own behavior at the scene. I was very outspoken and unsympathetic. Angry infact. Still not sure if i should feel ashamed or justified.

How about - just normal
one possible sequence -
1 initial shock
2 anger
3 what if
4 delayed shock
5 grief
6 more what ifs
7 getting events in order
8 applying logic
9 questioning ones own take on events

ALL NORMAL

whether you realized it of not, you would have been in shock at that time, and your reactions would be outside of your control, almost instinctive, you should stop beating yourself up over this tragic incident. what ever your actions this guy would still be dead, and you are just another victim in all of this

now,im no doctor rob,but i would say from the outside looking in,that this was the START of shock setting in,and you should certainly not beat yourself up over your reactions at the time.everyone is different rob,and react in different ways.
anyway, apart from whats been said in posts above,i would like to wish you the best on what will be a very emotional and sad day,not only for you,but for this guys family as well.
hopefully, after the inquest, you can start putting this sad eposide, behind you,i know you will never forget, but time is a great healer.

good look Mr V KEEP

As Rog said Rob…" normal "

Best of luck fella see you at TF Peterbrough

hi yes it was a long time ago (2000) the coroner wanted to hear my side of the events along with the police officers, worst bit was the guys family asking me if i thought he had deliberatly took his own life. you have nothing to worry about

I hope they don’t ask me for my opinion.

If they do, give it with both barrels, he drove like a complete pratt, it could have been even worse than it actually was.

I see the shrine has been taken down aswell, these “boy” racer types are a complete menace, and, when they are in their 30 / 40s, its a complete embarrassment IMHO.

Top Gear has a lot to answer for… :imp:

All the best for 2010 Rob, and, keep your chin up.

A few weeks ago i found out his name, age and what his family and friends thought about him thru the obits. That was a little tough, up until then he was a nobody.

At least Rob & his family have the satisfaction of knowing about the blokes boy racer tendency :imp:

Wishing you all the best at the inquest Rob and hope you will get a measure of closure on the incident.
I had a Van run into the back of my trailer on the M5 north near jct 4 northbound 3 or 4 days after your accident no fatalities fortunately and i still don’t really know what happened that morning.Lucky i had a witness or two at the scene.

good luck mate . all you can do is give your side of what happend. all the best lug

try to keep things in perspective
it wasnt your fault
maybe it would help if you took some notes
into the inquest just to refer too
and not drift from the facts

best of luck

Hope everything turns out ok

good luck chap

to the court

If you are asked point blank (I) would explain who I thought was at fault but as i’m sure you won’t, he is dead, so probly best not to “expand” on that bearing in mind his family will be there, I think they will get the gist of it if you keep it basic.

Best of luck to you Rob, both my wife and I will be thinking of you.

Good luck mate, just read all through the original thread aswell and would like to say i hope everything goes well and everyone involved can get some sort of closure from the inquest.

MR VAIN:
As ever guys and girls, you are of great support and comfort. it doesn’t matter how tough you are or how strong, you never know whats gonna drop you to your knees. A few weeks ago i found out his name, age and what his family and friends thought about him thru the obits. That was a little tough, up until then he was a nobody.

i dont know you that well rob but i would say thats the start of shock, cause thats not you. your a good man who looks out for everyone else

good luck at the inquest and ill see u at the doo or tf peterborough

Been to one 5yrs ago Rob, my old man was killed in a RTA not that pleasent a little bit like a magistrates court. The coroner asks people to give evidence which might include police, expert,& eye witnesses so you will more than likely be asked to give evidence but if by any chance facing charges in relation to the accident you dont have to answer if you think it may incriminate you. ( a solciter might be a good thing) Contributions by relatives or friends of the deceased can also be heard,I remember being able to ask questions myself. The coroner will conclude whether it is accidental, unlawful,or natural.
On a personal note you might get a bit more closure on what happened when you have heard the evidence of everyone else, personaly I didnt it only brought me more questions & ive found it difficult just doing this (took me back). A good help for you might be to get on the Home Office website & find a booklet called BrakeCare it will give you all the information you require.
Best of Luck Kenny

Thinking of you.

Links from Brake website (in response to the mention of BrakeCare above):

brake.org.uk/support/literat … n-the-road
brake.org.uk/support/literat … ous-injury

Not sure which of those two would be most useful, so have a look at both. The links to download the actual free publications are at the bottom of each page.

Thanks Hitch, and thanks everyone for yr posts and messages of support.

Some good points well made and they are much appreciated.

Can’t offer you much in the way of advice fella but all the best, I hope you and everyone else involved get as much closure from the inquest at possible.
