Indicators

primativepete:
Why would you indicate when joining a motorway?

Where is any traffic JOINING the motoway going to go■■? Left ■■ or RIGHT

I agree. The amount of times that I’ve been going down a slip road and there’s been a car or even a truck there in lane 1 with lane 2 clear, and they don’t move over until the indicator from me goes on. It’s like a light bulb moment that they suddenly realise your intention is to actually join lane 1 rather than just carry on and plough down the hard shoulder.

I always indicate coming onto a motorway just to give that extra reinforcement of my intentions for the mentally challenged. When on the main road I’ll move over or slow down/speed up as appropriate to clear the way. It’s not hard.

I always pull over anyway …as long as it’s clear and safe, the fact that a lot of cars leave me hanging like a ■■■■ in lane 2 and speed up is the bit that ■■■■■■ me, or worse a fellow truck ‘driver’ who speeds up and keeps me alongside him, ignoring the fact I am only there in the first place to let HIM out, and proving what a complete 2at he is. :smiling_imp:

How about having some new signs made for the rear of the truck saying something like…

‘I’m not indicating for you - use your own…!!!’

I have noticed lately the newer VW AUDIs with the strobe effect rear indicators now indicate ,if only to show them off…Not a cheap option either …Jeeez you can spec them on DAF

I was in my car following another car in town all thought town many turns. Never once used his indicators. Has it happened he ended up going to the super market i was going to. He parked and i parked then i waited a bit till he got out and said to him that he needed to get his indicators looked at has the are not working. He said they work and i said well you need lessons in when to use them to which he just grunted.

I like indicators which have positive on/off switches.

Me too. Just this morning mine was saying to me “I feel great. It’s a good time to be here. Let’s help other motorists and be considerate road users”

Ok can get with the roundabout business but why the hell do you have to indicate when joining a motorway?

You think they are going to drive up the hard shoulder or use the run on slip as a take off runway? Not difficult to guess where they are going is it?

To indicate your intention. The clues in the name

Common courtesy (look it up). If everyone drove like they were on their test threads like this wouldn’t exist.

When someone pulls out in front of me with no indication like it’s their God given right to do however they like I usually ask the question “would you have done that if I’d been a fully marked up patrol car?”. The answer invariably is no, which leads me to believe that they are merely a lazy and arrogant ■■■■■■.

I’ve wondered about this. I suspect that there may be some type of exemption from the normal mirror signal procedure for people who are unwrapping or eating a sandwich or pie when leaving motorway service areas. I don’t mind slowing down a bit for someone who’s looking but a lot aren’t. Maybe snack packaging should be redesigned for the idiot motorist.

The way i see it personally is that there is no need to indicate to join a motorway as long as you can garner enough speed or slow down to get on without other vehicles already on the motorway moving onto lane 2 to help you out. But if you are driving a really ■■■■ slow car or an hgv or if there is heavy traffic on the motorway and you need to be let on then you should definately indicate. I don’t move over for motorists that are not indicating.

I will put it this way NO INDICATOR ON ! Your not coming out !

i tend not to use them around trucks, as i like the sound of a truck horn, and i note the hand gestures they use…

just joking, i note all thats been said and there are more and more people not using indicators especially on roundabouts…i go to pull across …only for some numpty to continue round without signalling, now that gets my goat up…sometimes, i find i even indicate when theres no one behind me…what a fool

Right. :unamused:

Thats exactly right mate. When i am in my own car i don’t usually indicate because its got enough power to merge without interrupting anyone or i can alternatively slow down and fall in behind faster moving vehicles. If i am in my truck i always indicate because usually i need the assistance of other drivers to get on the motorway as my truck is really slow. And just to clarify i always move over for HGVs whether they indicate or not. Its only cars which are not indicating that i don’t move over for.

That’s wonderful. So where do we draw the line at who indicates and who doesn’t?

You don’t indicate = you’re a fud.

It doesn’t take much effort. I drive a car which is quicker than almost anything I’ll see on the road, still manage to indicate. As I’m not a fud. See?

Those who drive regularly in Spain (away from the tourist areas, that is) must have noticed that the Spanish driver NEVER indicates - ever! Although I drive a Spanish registered car, I am immediately identified as a Brit just because I DO indicate!

In fact, around here - rural Spain, few tourists - four-way flashers are not used for a hazard; they mean “I know I shouldn’t stop here, but I won’t be long, honest!” So you park on a corner, on a pedestrian crossing, double park etc while you pop into the bank or the tabac and if you are no longer than ten or so minutes then the Guardia or Policia Local will not bother you!

Nobody gives a [zb] about anybody else any more.

We have become a very ignorant country where manners seem to be disappearing fast :frowning:

Pretty much this, indicators are just the tip of the iceberg, general ignorance has become a epidemic.

The strange behaviour I have noticed is cars approaching roundabouts indicating to turn right, then going straight on
