In or Out- the EU referendum mega thread

To bring it back to transport, I use fuel to deliver building materials. My concern is that fuel prices will increase and building activity will decrease.

Yesterday I was craning some bags across a pavement being marshalled by two site blokes. A pedestrian suddenly yelled up at me “English!? English!?”. I said I was and cringed as the guy congratulated me for my place of birth. He then rounded on the two site guys. “And you! Where YOU from?” He then gleefully began explaining to them everything that is wrong with EU and them being here. I said Oi where are you from then? He says born in Italy but lived here since I was three months old. Oh so you are a European like me then I said.

I was very uncomfortable with this guy giving grief to a couple of blokes who are just earning a living like all of us.

This business of British people referring to themselves as European, waving banners reading " I am a European" really gets up my nose. They clearly have no sense of national identity yet they choose to follow a national sporting team in International competitions, even those events which are described as European championships, during which to hold true to their beliefs really they should be supporting the “community team” - except their isn’t one, the EU Statzpolitzie haven’t got around to that diktat yet . While we may refer to those from South American countries in a general way as Latin American, they themselves would most certainly not do so.

Where is this all going? maybe the science fiction writers were correct with their oft-written line, Martian: " Die Earthling."

but you dont feel uncomfortable about your fellow country men who can not get work and end up down in the gutter thanks to the guy who come over here only to earn a crust

it seems many years ago the Germans were not happy when us English invaded there country in the 80s to try to earn a crust there people felt threatened by the cheap option the employers had with English labour, anyway it didn’t last long did it before they changed there rules, and it became harder and harder for English to go over there to earn a crust

i bet you think the germans were ever so nice to the English who went over there undercutting there own people ? no they bloody well put a stop to it the same way we are trying to put a stop to it over here

as for fuel prices the industry have enjoyed low prices at the pumps for a hell of a long time now but i dont remember the industry passing on any of there savings they have been raking in to there work force ? or anywhere else other than perhaps share holders.

Just to stick my beak in Pete, and speaking as the ‘forum tart’ you are being a bit over dramatic in your terminology about our workers ‘falling in the gutter’ :unamused:

Nobody is ‘in the gutter’ in the true sense these days, we are not in the Victorian era, and whether you agree with the Welfare system or not, it is there to prevent it. Despite what our knowledgable friend may think about it, it is a good thing, it is the abuse of it by the unemployable deadlegs that make a mockery of it, and yeh ok to agree with you , by the economic migrants who take it on as a lifestyle.

Can’t speak for the Germans as I was not involved at that time (maybe you were in your vast experience you keep telling us about in the days before sat navs and dcpc, when ALL drivers were perfect) but when an abundance of UK drivers took the Dutch Gilder, and drove with yellow reg plates, I can’t remember much hostility tbh, on the contrary in fact.

Evil8Beezle:
My point was that Pete is 100% hung up on the Nationalist aspect…

And I’m well aware of the middle class lib dem types, as I haven’t always been a trucker!
Yes we have plenty in this country that preach what is basically crap, as they don’t have to live in the crap of their ideas! :unamused:

of course i am 100% hung up on the nationalist side of things, as i want my country back, i want a future for my kids. it scares the hell out of me at how much change has taken place in just a few short years

if i list the changes then it would look like i am just a racist having a moan and not an english man worried about being taken over and driven against my own free will to enjoy my own way of life
hell at this rate they will start to ban having a turd in the cab as it might offend

your beak is most welcome miss
so you do not remember the Thatcher years and the boys having to go out to Germany to earn a crust ? or how the germans made sure that came to an end to protect there own people.
i wonder if you have ever seen the tv show auf wetizern pet ? it was about a bunch of brits going over to work in germany it is a good laugh but it also shows just how the germans reacted towards us and in the end how they changed there laws etc to protect there own people from the English and cheap labour.
but of course its far better people forget about that side of things as it doesn’t suit there good european bollox

I see no contradiction in identifying as both British and European, but then I don’t define myself by what I am not.

I am English first, though one parent travelled from Scotland to London in their early twenties in search of improved prospects, something they were able to do as result of a union which allowed the free movement of people within a group of politically affiliated countries.

I am also British, a fact of which I am suitably proud thank you very much. I also see Britain as part of Europe, and am also a citizen of the world. [emoji3]

I have lived a few years in Australia and I can assure DesyPete that it is hands down the most racist country possible. In fact, it is full of Brits complaining about the immigrants there and here, though, being british, they of course are not immigrants, but “ex-pats”. A world of difference.

its true the Aussies have not been very good to the Aboriginal people. and i certainly dont want to end up like an Aboriginal in my own country. i am an English man. as its the place i was born in, i expect to be able to live in peace in my own country and for my own way of life to be just as valued all around the world. the same way i would value anyones way of life from other parts of the world. i do not want to take my English way of life out into any other part of the world and i would expect if i tried to that the natives of a country would not like me very much for trying to change there way of life

so fair being fair please dont try to change my way of life in my own country and please try to look after our own people first is there anything so wrong about that ?

No one is asking you to change your way if life. Does hearing a foreign accent effect your quality or way of life? No of course it doesn’t. Or is a over curved banana detrimental to english Ness? Immigration has been happening since the dawn of time, dna tests have proven that no one person on earth comes from a single country. 30% max dna comes from the country you are born in. Your ancestors will have been from all over the world. You are English because you were born there but so is a first generation immigrant born there who’s parents are Pakistani. No more no less.

As for you don’t want to go around the world enforcing your way of life that’s fair enough but it already happened. Not by you personally but other British people.

I’m not going to start this post with the old ‘‘I’m not a racist but’’ chestnut :unamused: … because I know myself that I am anything but, so I feel no necessity to explain myself.

Do these British first (or second) generation, (maybe not specifically Pakistani but certainly general Middle East origin) that you speak of that are, and consider themselves fully British, include the ones who went to Iraq and Afghan to join the Taliban, to fight against and kill, our British forces, or the ones who went out to Syria to join I.S., or that piece of human crap, the murderer ‘Jihadi John’ …just asking.

No Robroy, it’s just the ones that call for sharia law in the UK, and the conversion of our country to Muslim values!

He’s Italian just as he would be if he was born here of Italian parents.Just as I am mostly English but part Irish having never been to Ireland in my life IE dual nationality based on desecent.

Would you say that Cliff Richard is English or Indian National.

Does any of that mean we should make this a state of a federal Europe and subject ourselves to an open door immigration policy and a definition of citizenship based on jus Soli as opposed to jus Sanguinis.No.

Funny innit? Yet there he was shouting the odds at some foreigners to go home. Go figure.

I’m guessing what he actually meant was the boat is full and was applying an understandable solidarity with those of his adopted homeland who feel the same in that regard.Bearing in mind that he didn’t seem to be saying Italians only should be allowed in.Unlike some of the Asian African UKIP vote regards shutting down EU immigration in favour of more ‘Commonwealth’.

Having said that the story seems a bit far fetched to me.

Well at least he wasn’t trying to cut there heads off and putting on you tube as a way of protesting
It’s seems your he’ll bent on trying to play a poor victim card to those people who come here to earn a crust but fail to understand that some people feel fed up as it’s not just 1 is it ? Sometimes it feels like the whole of the eu has come over as all you hear around you is there native tongue now I know that is not the picture all over the UK but in many small towns it’s really got a grip it’s not fair on the locals is it or do they simply have to put up and shut up as it suits your ideals of being a good European bollox

I agree with this, she isn’t what the people want and is already unpopular http://www.breitbart.com/london/2016/07/05/prime-minister-theresa-may-insult-democracy/

See I am talking about a couple of Romanians and you are talking about islamic extremism. Not really the same thing.

Conflating “the other”.

I accept indigenous populations can feel overwhelmed but I also believe this country has a proud tradition of resisting the lure of fascism precisely because we understand how seductive and easy it is. As we have heard quoted a few times recently, it is easy to light the fire but not so easy to keep it from getting out of control.
