in cab stuff

Whilst we’re on the subject. My cig lighter sometimes sparks when I plug anything into it. Not talking over the top stuff like TV or toasters or kettles. Just ordinary plugs like sat nav and phone. This happened on my 1st trip in it and it blew the fuses. It was brand new when I started driving it. Iveco changed the lighter socket but it still sparks. Mostly when I put my 24v dropper in and I daren’t use it. It’s mostly OK but now and again scares the bejesus outta me. Clues?

with all those gadgets in the cab, no wonder drivers dont wanna leave it to socialise. for years all i carried was maps, a cooker, and a bloody good tool box, but as times changed, so did i, and got myself an 8 track, then a cassette, then in later years, a tv/dvd, and a while later, a laptop, with a dongle, not forgetting some dvd`s, but i did throw away the sleeping bag, and ended up with 2 duvets, absolutely brilliant, what with the increased 15 hour days, didnt really have time to watch anything, it was more of work…work…sleep…work.

I’ve got a big dash table, didnt like them in the past but then one day decided i did, think i got fed up with balancing stuff on the dash. Also have a double burner cooker that sits on the passenger seat, is a massive improvement over the suitcase type i was using before, (credit goes to switch for that one).

not keen on stuff on passenger seat but if small cab then needs must. i like my 24 volt leccy oven but have the gas burner for backup, also use big red leccy kettle ,thats good but have a gas burner kettle for back up.
also got the blow up
nan forget that ,she had a major blow out last night.

I drive an R series topline, the seat folds down into a table, it couldnt really go under the bunk etc as its connected to a 4kg calor gas bottle. The truck is my home, no one else drives it, i could live in it full time if i wanted, theres quite a few poeple at my work that do, so i have to set up in a way that makes my 5nights a week comfy.

What are those 24v ovens like, what do you cook in it?

Buy a big inverter and get a microwave for 30quid from Tesco.

I’ve got flat screen tv
ps3
laptop
ps vita
microwave
and a nice pair of slippers to drive in

Sorry, but whats an 8 track■■?

An 8 track is a bigger version of the cassette

Crikey , I got a sat nav and a kettle and a pan and a book to read , I drive , sleep , drive sleep , you buggers have to much time on ya hands , work is about making money not watching telly or surfing the internet

Apart from the normal stuff like pots, pans cookers etc… I have just installed wifi in the cab.

Due to being a nasty foreigner my phone is on Vodaphone Espana, so when I am in the UK which is regularly, I either have to pay a fortune for internet access on data roaming, or hunt around for free wifi, which is a bit thin on the ground and inconvenient. I could of course have bought a UK pay as you go smartphone, but I didnt really want to spend another 3 or four hundred quid on duplicating what I already have. I could also of course have used a UK sim card in my current phone, but its a pain continually swapping sim cards and whenever the UK sim was in the phone I lose any incoming calls on my Spanish number.

So for a very reasonable 70 quid including delivery (to a UK customers address) I installed a 3G/4G enabled mini wifi router and an unlocked 3G/4G dongle fitted with a preloaded pay as you go data sim card supplied by Three.com - 3Gb for £15.

The dongle simply plugs into a dedicated USB socket on the router - which is powered usually by a laptop/tablet via a USB lead. As Im using a Smartphone this option wasnt available, so I also purchased a cigarettes lighter to USB converter 12/24vdc - 5vdc 1 amp and connected the router via a USB lead to it.

So now as soon as I land in the UK all I simply do is switch on the router and switch on the wifi on my phone and instant high speed internet access is available wherever I go.
The router is fixed to the dashboard using double sided tape as Im not keen on drilling holes in cab interiors, as its very lightweight the tape will be more than sufficient.
For those who travel around europe this system will accept any european 3G/4G sim card.

For those who are interested:

TP Link TL-MR3020 Wireless N Router, Huawei E367 HSPA+ dongle, Three.com 3G preloaded pay as you go sim. All purchased via Amazon.

How fast is the high speed? i just use my mobile as a hot spot, 4g is just around the corner, which is what im waiting for so i can play the ps3 online.

The router is capable of delivering 150Mbs, the dongle is one of the latest from Huawei and is set up to work on HSPA+ at up to 21.6Mbps.

The actual speed available does depend on a whole lot more factors though, such as location, if you are moving, how many people are using a network node etc…

I havent tested the speed I have been receiving on my system, however for normal everyday use it appears to be very fast, no hanging with images, email attachments download virtually instantly and facebook loads and updates very quickly as do image uploads to FB and Whatsapp.

If you were to use what I am using to stream video, audio or online gaming then I dont think that it would be viable, 3Gb data on a prepaid sim would be used very quickly indeed.

Without wishing to sound pedantic but to clarify for the less well informed, using your mobile as a “hot spot” means that you allow other users to use your data allowance from your network provider. In other words you provide internet access to other users via your phone. I guess you mean that you use the wifi on your phone to access wifi hotspots provided by others.

You get a network SSID so its secure. i don’t use it much tbh, laptop is more for watching films and i email via phone. Isn’t H+ faster than 3G?

HSPA: High Speed Packet Access (HSPA)[1] is an amalgamation of two mobile telephony protocols, High Speed Downlink Packet Access (HSDPA) and High Speed Uplink Packet Access (HSUPA), that extends and improves the performance of existing 3rd generation mobile telecommunication networks utilizing the WCDMA protocols. A further improved 3GPP standard, Evolved HSPA (also known as HSPA+), was released late in 2008 with subsequent worldwide adoption beginning in 2010. The newer standard allows bit-rates to reach as high as 168 Mbit/s in the downlink and 22 Mbit/s in the uplink.

HSPA+: Evolved HSPA (also known as: HSPA Evolution, HSPA+) is a wireless broadband standard defined in 3GPP release 7 and 8 of the WCDMA specification. it provides extensions to the existing HSPA definitions and is therefore backwards compatible all the way to the original Release 99 WCDMA network releases. Evolved HSPA provides data rates up to 84 Mbit/s in the downlink and 10.8 Mbit/s in the uplink (per 5 MHz carrier) with multiple input, multiple output (2x2 MIMO) technologies and higher order modulation (64 QAM). With Dual Cell technology, these can be doubled.

Since 2011, HSPA+ has been very widely deployed amongst WCDMA operators.

Hope this helps.
