In cab Kettles

Had about three kettles recently and all have died or overheated or just blown fuses . Anyone recommend one that will last.
It’s prob my fault as I’m tight as the proverbial

i just love mine…and it whistles when the waters hot enough…

This again? Gas cooker and a pan or gas kettle. 2 mins, job done, put it away! :sunglasses:

Mine too…and it doesn’t take 45 minutes to boil

I’ve had electric kettles and they’re a waste of time, don’t even boil the water properly  unless you’re going to go the full hog and run a 240v kettle off an inverter, I find the old fashioned whistler does the job perfectly :grimacing:

Don’t waste your time with electric kettles. As you have found out they’re bloody useless. Stick to the good old gas and you can’t go wrong, except die perhaps if it develops a a fault

I love my 12 v kettle, it takes 30 minutes to boil a mug full, but a lot less hassle than a gas stove.

Each to their own, however I would hazard a guess that you haven’t had it long? Or you don’t use it very often, otherwise your socket would be burned out. Also you don’t fill it if it “only” takes half hour to boil
Don’t see how it’s less hassle than 2 minutes to boil on the gas though? in 5 mins I get enough to fill my travel mug, flask and pot noodle/porridge pot.

Not had it long mate. The wire getting warm is a bit dodgy…

What gas stove do you use? If it ■■■■■ up I might get one.

Yep the plug gets VERY hot. Prone to melting also. Try touching it just after you’ve boiled it

The gas stove I use was from Go Outdoors, think it was £12. Bought to replace my Argos one that lasted 7 years before developing a leak :grimacing: They have offers on too, gas is 4 bottles for £8 I think or 2 for £10 on offer. Though if you’ve got a warehouse store near you, they’re about a quid each there.

I’m just rewiring one now. At the risk of being ridiculed does it matter which way round I put the wires in?

Bollox to the go outdoors mate . Get urself to a b&m store ( stoves £8.99 gas 3.99 for 4 ) or home bargains exactly the same prices . Hope this helps mate .

Stupid thing is I carry a gas burner in the car and whistler

My gas stove was a fiver, and my Mrs gets gas from her work. 87p a can. BOOM! (Not literally)

I bought a blue kettle from Exelby truckstop about 6yrs ago, i put a hella plug on it and it runs on 24v, i only ever fill it to just above the element as thats all i need for a brew, takes about 5-10 minutes to boil, i use it about 4 times a day and the lead gets warm but never hot

That’s my thinking, spares fuses and a set of precision screwdrivers to swap the wires around.

I bought mine at truckstop Dover Port and it was small about 4 cups, never a problem - it kept me going in the little Merc 7.5t

I buy Waeco 24v ones from Amazon, pricey but have fixed mount so i can boil it whilst under way. About 10 mins to boil enough for two mugs, I’m quite good at timimg it to click off just as I arrive.

It gets used about 4 or 5 times a day and when it stops working usually close to a year of service I log into Amazon and organise a return, they send a new one and I send the old one back in the same box that the new one came in at no cost to me.

I did have one a while ago that lasted about 15 months so I bought and paid for another, only that one “failed” after 6 months (enough time to look as used as the previous dead one) so it was duly swapped over to give me a spare    Every time they issue a replacement it has another 12m warranty.

+1
Got me a waeco 20 amp jobby as well, retro fitted an audio socket and changed the plug to match, no more problems with wobbly connectors.

Miss my gas kettle but not allowed gas in truck so instead of hiding the bugger everytime an inspection was due I went leccy kettle and cooker route.

10 minutes boiling time allows me to get a fresh flask done in heavy traffic.
