In-Cab camera system

Hello all

Sat in Tosco earlier today watching a daytime program about people making false insurance claims, including crash for cash scams! So I thought i’d do a bit of research into those cameras that can be fitted to the windscreen like a sat nav and record the road ahead. Just wondering if anyone has one that they can recommend?

Thanks

I use an app from Android, it’s free you can also e-mail it or send it to You Tube can’t fault it really.

The subject has been discussed before, however some of the better ones are (a) expensive, (b) more suited to being permenantly fitted.
Which brings me to the obvious question(s) of who pays for such kit?, and will it be fitted to only the truck you drive?
They may not be suitable for a cab hopping driver who drives a different truck each day, and is buying the kit themselves.
I`ve driven trucks fitted with roadscan pro systems but not had to call on the evidence. But they start recording if you hit a pothole, can be a PITA because they bleep dozens of times a day

This one is brilliant chillibongo.com Got one with the built in GPS so it shows speed & Lat /Long location on playback. We also use it in the race car at weekends

You only really need one if you drive to Bradford, Birmingham, Luton etc.

Being born and bred in Bradford, i can vouch for that, the taliban specialities are removal of there own brake bulbs and the “roundabout sandwich”, its no secret there are more accident management companies in the yellow pages in bradford than curry houses. I was hit by an uninsured driver on Barkerend road in 1995 one of the highest areas in the country for uninsured drivers, it turned out he was illegally driving his parents golf while they had returned to Pakistan to visit a sick relative.

camera and hard drive fitted about £500 quid ,some insurance companies will reduce your premium, worth considering.

The road hawk all the way!!!

Erm you are missing out vital area;s such as slough, southall, birmingham, forest gate, plastow … tower hamlets … best bet is just drive nowhere and take the bus!

I was heading north on the A1 today at Black Cat - pulled onto the roundabout when it was totally clear but just as I was passing the Bedford turning, a car that had come quickly around the roundabout from the north took a chance and tried to cut across my path. Luckily for him he just clipped my front rather than getting a full side-swipe which would have sent him straight into the armco.

He recovered, slowed down for a second and then sped off towards Bedford. I didn’t have time to catch his reg as I was busy thinking “WTF?!”. Presumably he was either uninsured or knew he was in the wrong so legged it.

If I had had a camera fitted I’d have his reg and could have called the cops. Instead, my firm will have to foot the bill for the (luckily very minor) damage to my unit.

I’m going to get myself a camera next time I get paid.

Don’t forget that roadhawk.co.uk/ could also work against you . . .

Well I’m confident that my driving is fine but tbh I can’t afford a RoadHawk. I don’t need features like the G-Force data, just a good HD picture and if possible GPS positioning as well, though this isn’t essential either imo.

you dont need to buy anything as expensive as roadhawk. get on ebay and buy a small camera similiar to the ones used by the guys who take their cars on track. plug n play is just as good and far cheaper plus you can remove it easily to move between your truck and private vehicle
this was my mates car using whatever camera he uses which isnt much bigger than an LED pointer

That’s crap tbh, and would be no use for what the OP originally wanted, can’t read a single number plate and isn’t very clear at all

just an example. you dont need to read number plates on a track session and it would still catch the accident which is all they need to determine who is at fault.
obviously the clearer the picture you want the more you will pay but i would still try ebay first rather than a manufacturer who sells a product which is far more advanced than anything we would need for personal use. you could spend hundreds on an all singing, all dancing camera or £50 which only does what you want it to do ie record the front of your vehicle

This is a quick sample of a 720 vid done on the android app Daily Roads Voyager. On the phone it shows the speed, gps location, link to map and trace, g-forces etc.

It’s capable of 1080p, but I turned it to 720 as the quality isn’t that important.

It’s just rested in the windscreen of the Merc, hence it’s pointing upwards a bit, would be better with a mount but I’m not 100% happy due to how close things look on it.

definatly Roadhawk…

Here is a quick demo of the roadhawk RH-1
