there are some countries around the world, where you will find diesel at a very low price.
saudi arabia, and venezuella are about 10ppl.
so what paperwork would be required to import say 30000 litres from one of these places.
i can’t see any reason why it’s not possible, if all taxes were paid.
you could always tell HMRC, that there was only 27000 litres at a time, that should cover the shipping costs.
Interesting idea but not all diesel is same specification also you may just get redirected to uk based agent.

Anything`s possible Phil, but, 30k is a tanker load, its a long way to come in a day cab
Then, HMRC strike, and want their 80% duty before Mohammed or Juan are off the boat

still much cheaper than what we’re paying at the moment.
if a large company did it. then another followed suit, then owner drivers set up a consortium, the government would have to bring down prices.
you know one thing that i find annoying, is if you have a boat, and run it on petrol, you can’t get a rebate, even if you go into international waters. however if you have a plane, and fly it outside of UK airspace, even for a second, then you get a rebate.

I agree, but, the second you start your little adventure, if it aint HMRC knocking at your door, it will be one of the major oil companies knocking your legs away, beware, we are controlled from above, there ain
t much we can do legally
But, civil disorder is a whole new ball game for us [the tax paying public, not the JD Sports looters], how or when, I`m not too sure, but, its getting closer
Limeyphil you should have a word with Red Ken Livingston who has been planning the same tactic of importing oil from his good friend
Hugo Chavez the Venezuelan president, might be you could work together.

Ah, Red Ken, what a jerk
Probably only worth it if you could buy a boat load, payable in advance so you’d have to have a helluva good root around down the back of the sofa first. Anyway I’m sure if it was viable Neddy Slowcart would be doing it already and telling anyone who just happens to stumble* across their prog on channel 5 how clever they are
*nobody really sits down specially to watch that program do they

Slightly eccentric thinking that, why drive to Saudi Arabia!!! just go and get a job with Texaco, £200 worth of drivers licence (spurious) and help yourself will be a lot less penalty than being prosecuted by HMRC if you get caught, first offence and all that.

i was thinking of using a mulimodal tanker from venezuella, or saudi. not driving there and back.
I imagine if you buy any oil from Saudi or Venezuela, it will still be crude.
Cant you black up and join the Somalian pirates?
Didn’t they (meaning random persons) used to import it from the republic of Ireland in milk tankers? … 'till they got caught.

yes. but there was more to it.
red diesel in the north was cheaper than green diesel in the south. so they sold red in the south, then brought the white back up, and over the top.

Absolute ballox .
The red was “washed” with a mixture of acid and filtered through cat litter then taken to the UK mostly through Dublin.
The milk tankers were single pot tanks that had the manlid at the front - false baffle welded in so it looked like a load of milk if the manlid was opened but that was only about 3000 liters at the front .Behind the baffle was the fuel and being a stainless steel tank it didn’t rust . When the smugglers had done a set number of runs from Ireland to the UK the tank was ditched ( they were usually stolen to be converted ) or sent to France to bring back a few loads from there as well.
White diesel was never used as there wasn’t enough money to be made at it .
How do I know all this - company I worked for had the misfortune to have a 27000 l milk tanker stolen and then “found” about 3 months later .During the recovery process we had a very interesting chat with a few members of HMRC who were able to tell us how the smugglers were operating and what routes they were using .
I would have thought bringing 24,000 lts of legit white from ROI a few years back would have been well worthwhile?
How much is it over there now? Not been for over 10 years

there’s not much in it now, just pennies/cents.
but you’re right, it was well worth it some years back.
but beefy saying it was bollox is a naive comment. his version is just another way it was done, not the only way.

If your going to run the risk of smuggling fuel would you like a profit of 10 pence a liter or over a pound a liter ? £2400 / load or £24000 / load . The big boys are making millions out of it - they recon that if they get 3 loads delivered then if it hits the fan the driver can get out and walk away with no loss and the unit and tank are paid for . You don’t do that on 10 p/ liter .
