Surely there couldn’t be anything so dreadful in Spain, Italy, Germany, Switzerland or France that they’d be willing to risk their lives AGAIN just to make it to the UK? I’m sure the rules state that the first safe country they arrive in is where they seek asylum. From there, there are LEGAL ways of moving here.

Quite simply answered, if the first country in which they reach isn’t as relaxed in their immigration policies such as the UK, then obviously they head straight for the best country passing through safe countries to settle in where they are more likely to be treat the way they feel they should be. It is our government that has created this invasion, pretty much like Germany created the initial wave of every immigrant in the world travelling to Germany on an open invitation. Whilst I agree with your point on the government making this such an attractive place for these people, your other point is akin to letting off a bank robber because the banks security was inadequate.
As an addition, these people are taking advantage of a fair and generous system to which they are not entitled. If they were entitled, they wouldn’t be using illegal means to access it.

The primary need for every human being is the need to be safe. So yes, I understand why people try to cross the Mediterranean in a dingy. But once in Italy or Spain that need has been met. Trying to better their lifestyle using shortcuts or illegal means is simply down to greed. And that puts into question their original motives for leaving.
Edit: if the government were to make asylum here less palatable, what impact would that have on genuine refugees? It’s the same old story, a few taking advantage who spoil it for the genuine.

While I agree safety is most important but one of the main reasons they head for the UK rather than Italy or Spain is their second langauge is English which makes everything a lot simpler.
I don’t blame them for doing so and as I said earlier quite a lot of them could show a few in this country how to do a job properly.

Sorry have I posted on the wrong post? The topic of this post is Covid 19 and immigration. Andie if you cannot offer any sensible contribution towards the subject or show any respect for others, then maybe you should refrain from showing yourself up and typing personal attacks on people in your en-devour to sound like dirty harry. Those “poor people” are illegal economic migrants…nothing else, they SHOULD have stopped in the first safe country and asked for asylum if they were refugees. The legal way of entering Europe! But they don’t, ask yourself why?
