There was a report on french news (BFMTV) today about some legitimate asylum seekers living in some old railway wagons because there weren’t enough places in the nearby centre for such people.
This was in Bordeaux (which is definitely on the west coast by anybodies standard
).
They wanted to settle and work here in France.
If a ferry cleared Dover harbour and steered SE it would end up running ashore about 8 mile SW of Calais near Wissant

Take a look at this map. North is the top of the thing. So Perpignan is on the South coast of France. Calais is in the top right-hand corner of France. You will have to zoom in to find it. That means it’s in the north-east of France.
