Newcastle bears from Dover at 336 degrees true which makes it roughly NNW1/2N. btw Calais is in the North East of the French mainland but on a North West facing coastline, hth.

Oh, this is nice and topical, the MEP that represents Calais is the MEP for…North West France…Which means that Newcastle and Berwick are in North West England and Barrow in Furness is in Western England while Dover is obviously in South Western England being that it’s west of Gt Yarmouth and 22 miles from Calais.

Although to be fair we haven’t taken some of western Germany and called it England.
Blimey, that post isn’t worth a response its that daft
That statement would be understandable in the case of anyone who thinks that Calais is in North West France because it’s North West of Strasbourg.
No Carryfast, I think its north west because its north west, you are clearly confused at the point I was making. Ive provided proof that the French authorities consider it NW France so Ive no more to prove. Good job you never did Euro work after all.
To be fair the French ‘authorities’ don’t seem to know where Germany starts and France ends hence the reason for WW1.But I wouldn’t trust anyone who tells me that Calais isn’t about as far east as you can get on the northern French coast with the exception of Dunkirk before you’re in Belgium.Let going south from Calais for just North of Bordeaux. While the French ‘authorities’ also seem to be saying that it’s possible to be further east than west but still be in the south west and vice versa in the case of the south east.

So that’s why the French authorities call the region around Boulogbe, Calais, Dunkirk, right down to Amiens, Abbeville…
" le Nord "
And the department 62 is le Nord Pas de Calais
Can’t see any nord-ouest there
Fancy that, Carryfast drags it back to the war. As for the rest of that post, doesn’t make much sense sorry.

I didn’t say it wasn’t north did I? So the fact the French consider that area politically for voting purposes North West doesn’t matter then? My original point is if anyone cares to actually read it was the coast runs down the western side of France. Which it does. Be it northern west side, centre west or middle.
Something I also said several posts ago is we’ll have to agree to disagree. This is just going round in circles, although Carryfast would probably argue squares
I thought WW1 started cos someone put a bullet in a Prince Ferdinand ?

Did that happen in west of Sarajevo or east? Or north east, or north west, or south west, or south east, or south south east…I can recall

The inconvenient fact is that France’s border with Belgium is as far east as you can get in Northern France while the Channel is as far North as you can get.Which certainly makes Calais part of the North East of France.
Whatever you say Carryfast, whatever you say

No it happened because the French had an argument with the Germans about how far France should extend East into Germany and vice versa. So when the Russians joined their mates in Serbia the French decided to make a fight of it by supporting the Russians.

I thought it was 'cos Archie Duke shot an Ostrich?
(Blackadder Goes Forth)
Arch Duke, Prince or whatever, death of one bloke caused the death of millions of others.
I think this post should call it quits before world war 3starts

Ok then, so looking at that map, what coast is it on? North East? What does that make Strasbourg then? You do know which way is East dont you? I admit calling it west coast is pushing it a little but look at the map, France has a coast down its western side, and one to the south. By your standards 75% of the country is Eastern France.Well as you are clearly too stupid to work it out for yourself here are 2 clues switchlogic: it’s at the northern most point of France and it’s on the coast, so which coast do you think that is?

The relevant bit is that it’s as far north as you can go near to France’s eastern border.Which makes it the North East of France not the North.
No, it’s a far north as you can go in France. The rest is irrelevant and thus it is the north coast. France doesn’t have an east coast.
But France does have an East facing coast, on the Med. The coast near Perpignan definitely faces East…
Jeez. What a can of worms I’ve opened merely talking about roads running down the Bay of Biscay.
ok thats enough
can someone clarify what part of france calais is in
the immigrants from the other side of the world have no trouble finding it
but drivers on here would have you driving on the north , south , east and west coasts
before finding it

So five pages of where Calais is or isn’t yet nothing about the actual program. Can this thread now be renamed Calais is it in France? And a new thread started that is actually about the said program
