So West Sussex council can spend £1.25m on a site for travellers. Fair enough, so shouldn’t we ask for similar consideration?
What a bloody stupid question
I mean did you not know that in the eyes of Town councils, local authorities , and the public in general that drivers are one step down the food chain from ‘those that are not to be mentioned’ on here.
I remember before p. correctness came in, a huge car park in Forfar had a sign up saying ‘No Gypsies or Lorrys’…then PC kicked in and they painted out the ‘gypsies or’ bit.
So basically they were welcome with all the problems they are said to bring with them, and we were not, even though we just wanted somewhere to kip and spend money in their town.
Years ago residents asked the Council in Melksham to ban lorries parking in a free car park off Spa road.
The paper ran the story for months, an old lady wrote in to say, she saw a female Lgv driver getting undressed in her sleeper cab.
Nimbies also complained of urine and faeces by their back garden .
A lady dog walker wrote in to say, she was too scared to walk in the parking area as a short cut.
The Council banned lorries.
Thanks for the educational edge to your post Rob, I’ve only been an HGV driver for nine weeks. Sounds like we need a Minister to look after us. Next step is to write to 10 Downing Street… Might need the Andy Dufresne attitude by the sound of things…
Shower facilities!? Bit pointless. Why pay 1.25 mil for something that won’t get used.
When whichever party that gets in jacks your taxes up, just spare a thought for those poor sods that we have to tip toe around and be oh so polite about, have just received a 1.25 mil set of bogs and showers out of your ■■■■■. That’ll make you nice and warm when one of the violent sods chins you a Saturday night as they roll into town with their mullets.
I love the UK. it gives me that warm fuzzy feeling.
To be fair… most laybys look like didicoys have stopped there… its up to us to sharpen up I think
We don’t deserve decent facilities, most just wreck them when they get them. This country is ■■■■■■ up. We can’t blame Eastern Europeans either, because it’s the Brits that wreck these places. European services aren’t destroyed. FACT.
Pointless post. We aren’t allowed to question the dirty unwashed skanky caravan dwelling lowlife theiving scum on here .

Of course it’ll get used, they’ll nick all the fixtures and fittings, and weigh in the copper pipe.

Before anyone says the above is racist, this is exactly what happened to at the old camp near Chiseldon, Wilts. The one built on the old railway line towards Ogbourne St George. I was told the story by some Earthline drivers who lived near it, the place was trashed to the point it was uneconomic to repair and was closed off.

Over night Truckstops what few of them are left do have showers, just that not very often kept upto a decent standard due to the amount of times they are used.Often Drivers prefer to park up in a layby or industrial estates rather than pay out for proper parking facilities, so its ever wonder Councils are reluctant to spend a small fortune on something that may or may not be used.
Coventry Council at one time created a Lorry Park but it was so far out of town away from any pubs etc it was never used and eventually got took over by a coach firm as depot
Loads of shower facilities around the uk for us, some free some cost a few quid.
Even some customer premises have them, long tip = shower and maybe a cheeky tug.
I find picking a quiet time good for a scrub down and ■■■■ in the shower, usually midday is good + still being paid for it.
Failing that just wash off the old meat and 2 veg in the sink works or if im really pushed a bowl of water and some wetwipes.
Fact is im cleaner when on the road than when at home, although my duvet may dissagree…
In the end im just a professional didicoy anyway…

Don’t agree with your use of the word ‘most’
OK there are a few uneducated, socially inept pond life types among us that would wreck showers or ■■■■ in them or something just for the hell of it, but most of us are just normal working drivers.
After saying that there are some ■■■■ hole type facilities in some places in the UK that would be improved by wrecking them.
I use the disabled loo at the Msa to wash my under carriage and todge pipe end, just make sure the door is locked, or scare off Mabel on her Turkey and Tinsel coach trip to Margate.
Use the hand drier to dry the important bits.
how the hell dose a toilet and some showers cost over a million pounds?

Half of it is to pay social workers to teach them how to use them.
They probably gave the government a quote to do the work themselves on their own bogs
I’m quite lucky, because I’m doing music/gig work, 99% of the venues have showers. Every now and then I’m stuck at a motorway service area. Some of the showers I’ve had no problem with, but I was stuck at Heston services the other day, gave the showers a miss. Think I’d have caught multiple diseases had i stepped in.
Lorry parking need to be addressed though. Stopped for a 15 minute break at Thurrok on the M25 the other night. Trucks everywhere, lorry parking full, car park full of trucks, coach parking full.
Then stopped for my 30 minute break at Leictser forest services in the M1, same story, no space at all.
No idea what can be done, but over the next few years we’re going to run out of room.

That’s why, if I know that I am going to be parking in a MSA I always aim to be parked by 1800…normally no struggle to find a place then.
