Stanley Knife:
I don’t want to change what you believe in tofer - you believe in whatever you wish.
It’s just that as soon as an advert is posted saying there’s probably no god the god botherers jump up and down screaming “you can’t say that - we know better”.
Stan
I’m not so sure the bus driver was saying that. I understood that as a christian he did not want to promote the fact there maybe no god so you can do what you like, which is in direct conflict with what he believes. He never asked for the ads to be removed, he just didn’t want to parade them himself.
I wonder if all the people who said he should just drive the bus would drive a bus bearing an advert saying…homosexuality is fun, try it. ?
Proverb 22:4 -
By humility and the fear of the LORD are riches, and honour, and life.
Why would you fear something that you believe in?
Stan
It’s an archaic use of the word “fear” Stan and today we’d probably say “worship” or “respect”.
Cut & pasted from “Dictionary Information”…
(Script.) (a) Apprehension of incurring, or solicitude to avoid, God’s wrath; the trembling and awful reverence felt toward the Supreme Being. (b) Respectful reverence for men of authority or worth. “I will put my fear in their hearts.” Jer. xxxii. 40. “I will teach you the fear of the Lord.” Ps. xxxiv. 11. “render therefore to all their dues; tribute to whom tribute is due . . . fear to whom fear.” Rom. xiii. 7.
HTH.
If you browse through the Old Testament you’ll see that God wasn’t always the cuddly bloke with the big beard beaming down on us from a big cloud. Some times, like any TM, he had a bad day and got out of bed on the wrong side which accounts for all the plagues of locusts, floods and famines in those days. Of course there weren’t any unions then and ACAS hadn’t been thoughtof either.

I drove buses for more years than I care to remember Mike, with every kind of ad plastered on the outside, as well as the inside. If there had been an ad on the bus saying that the driver was a raving puff I’d have still driven it, because that’s what I was paid to do.

Certainly sounds like fear to me.

‘…scrapping all religion would solve a lot of problems - interesting as it does seem that most wars are religious based…’
Hmm, but surely ‘religion’ is man-made …above which He resides looking down on mankind’s stupidity …like we might regularly see rabbits considering a dash into headlights.
Meanwhile, should members of mankind be too hasty in congratulating themselves at being at the pinnacle of ‘whatever’ then please consider:
'…You are an accident, You are a creation out of chaos, You have no meaning or reason for being here, unless you perform a use not a need. People may choose to value you for what you do because they need you, …Or because they want you to value them in return. You have no inherent value. You are a human doing not a human being. Your place of birth was accidental. You have no purpose for life, except the ones you give yourself. Your only real achievement will be to reproduce, …Which is meaningless. Your personality is a result of your parents, friends and heroes. You are not special unless you are famous. You must earn your love unless you choose to love yourself unconditionally — because no one else will. If you died tomorrow it would be your end…’
Adapted from ‘You’re Beautiful’ by Pip Wilson
Sure, there is potential to rip the pee out of this …so I’ll respond by repeating; ‘…You have no purpose for life, except the ones you give yourself…’
Try believing that when one is, eg, cab-happy, safely & contentedly driving with 40-odd tons of whatever, through a snag-free misty sunrise or other such ‘meaningful moment’ one is able to dismiss the whole event having such awe, might & purpose as being an accident?
Nah …that bus driver did an admirable & God pleasing thing in His name …which I propose is not the same as doing it in the name of religion.
