Can anyone tell me the best Sat Nav to buy, I have been told that for a truck that the snooper s7000 is great but for over £400 I expect it to be. The snooper s5000 is a cheaper option though. I have no intentsions of driving in Europe and I am no thicko so if a ■■■■■■ sat nav tries to send me into a cul-de sac I am not going to follow its directions…thanks guys
I have an S5000. Never taken me astray yet, I haven’t been on the road professionally for very long though.
I paid £325 for my snooper s7000 brand new with warrenty of the Internet and its never done me wrong so far.
Save your money and get one of these.
Get a pronav and learn how to read a map…
One of our drivers has just bought one; He turned left instead of right out of the mill this morning and despite having 5 drops in Somerset, the London runs and the Devon/Dorset one was back with no sign of him. There’s a good chance the Cornwall driver (nightout) will be back before him!
Seriously, will a trucknav have a hissy fit in London, what with all the “weight limits before x o’clock” restrictions?

Ok it’s a money saviour but what’s the catch? Do you recommend it Harry?

Sat navs in london are not a good idea, if it doesnt take you through the centre of when its quicker to use the ring road it will crash when you need it the most.
Theres not many weight limits that will cause you many problems, the signs with times on them are normally to do with the lorry ban, the best thing to do is plan your route with a map and ask someone who knows london if you’ve not been to where your going and are unsure.
London is easy and enjoyable to drive round but failing to prepare will land you in a whole load of trouble.
Only thing about the s7000 is that it doesn’t auto detect day or night time so you have to keep changing it which is a pain everyday, twice per day.
Also the touch screen isn’t that sensitive or accurate so you do feel like punching it sometimes. Wouldn’t be without it though.
Haven’t tried the Tom Tom truck but I’d say that’s a good one unless anyone knows different?
And you can’t change brightness without exiting navigation…
If your going to buy one, spend proper money in it. Its worth the investment,
Although i am very much pro-map amd take pride in learning my routes etc. sometimes if you get sent out blind on some nasty multi-drop run or something its easier just to whack on the sat nav. I spent £350ish on a snooper s7000 truckmate about 3 years ago, seemed crazy at the time but never regretted it, never let me down when its been called upon.
I am looking at getting a TomTom 5150 truck, any good?
I have one of those £50 jobs with a 7 inch screen. When i have managed to get it to load up first thing in the morning it has never let me down, but i want to upgrade my TomTom that i brought back in 2003, which i like to point out has never let me down at all, but i feel it’s time for a new one.
I recently bought a snooper S5000, it’s a great bit of kit and worth the money. It takes you on sensible routes and only into 7.5t zones when you ask it. I’ve tried to trick it in the car and it gets very angry at you if you go near a low bridge or weight limit.
They’re not infallible though I’ve had it try and send me under a couple of low bridges, only twice mind in 3 or 4 years & maybe when there was no other option but I’d still prefer it to lock up rather than try and send you under a low bridge. Not brilliant on weight limits either but I haven’t updated mine in about 4 years so I’m sure they only get better.
Dunno about the Tom Tom but I’m sure the user interface and the graphics would be a bit slicker.
I bought a knock down “Olympic” Lomdon A to Z recently. I pulled out the olympic commerorative bots and events guides, and glued in a piece of A4 with our London customers names, page numbers and grid references. This has been a better investment than my Sat Nav, as I’m learning the routes and making notes when out as drivers’ mate.
My new Philips Navigator atlas has been used more than my Sat Nav, too. A lot more job satisfaction from maps…
Posted this before, I bought a Navman Tourer Europe.
It’s a car sat nav, but has a truck mode that you get a 30 day trial of for free.
£60 and you can keep it for life.
It’s never tried to take me under a low bridge or through a weight limit, just two width limits, which I don’t think is too bad for 12 months use.
I bet you can get one for well under £100 now.
Tomtom one IQ Routes…put low bridges, speed cameras & updated maps on myself, free .
Its an excellent sat nav, never had any problems with it…it can take you to a destination one way & bring you back a different way, depending on time of day/traffic etc…
Anyone know what the traffic master sat nav is like? Particularly the traffic jam integration in to the UI. Had a traffic master coulour monitor in a truck for a couple of years, brilliant piece of kit, easy to use, dead simple and great for avoiding jams. Shame they discontinued it.
Garmin Dezl, never let me down yet.
