I want to buy a truckers Sat Nav

Can you put unlimited points of interest on a Tomtom xxl? Thinking of putting in customers as poi’s and using the sat nav in “free run” mode etc.

Dont buy anything Chinese , they are ■■■■ , unless you are skint , then dont expect it to last to the end of the week, Not my words but the words of a Dutch car magazine.

Ok it’s a money saviour but what’s the catch? Do you recommend it Harry?

That is one piece of crap its not worth £7.00 , buy a second hand Tomtom if cash is tight a 520 or 530 can be had for £50 and get truckmaps , I mean look at the charger on that chinese thing , its a phone charger ! cheap rubbish , life time map updates because the thing will only last till the end of the road !

I recently acquired the Snooper S8000, so far so good. Main point in buying that model it turns into a digital tv and radio.

I am looking at getting a TomTom 5150 truck, any good?

I have one of those £50 jobs with a 7 inch screen. When i have managed to get it to load up first thing in the morning it has never let me down, but i want to upgrade my TomTom that i brought back in 2003, which i like to point out has never let me down at all, but i feel it’s time for a new one.

I got one of these when they first came out. Lifetime map updates are free.

It’s been 100% reliable, incl low bridges etc etc etc.

Well recommended.

I use one of these and find them good the only prob I have with it is in central London where it cant distinguish the times and restrictions on some roads and it just blocks it out with a warning on the screen that you cant get rid of when you go to one of them area s
alternatively you can reduce the weight to 7 ton but then its not trustworthy
does anyone experience them probs with the snooper when in central london

Seriously, will a trucknav have a hissy fit in London, what with all the “weight limits before x o’clock” restrictions?

Sat navs in london are not a good idea, if it doesnt take you through the centre of when its quicker to use the ring road it will crash when you need it the most.

Theres not many weight limits that will cause you many problems, the signs with times on them are normally to do with the lorry ban, the best thing to do is plan your route with a map and ask someone who knows london if you’ve not been to where your going and are unsure.

London is easy and enjoyable to drive round but failing to prepare will land you in a whole load of trouble.

Last time I stopped in London to check my map, I got a parking ticket through the post :smiling_imp:

I need to buy some kind of trucker satnav. Any further advice. I would like it to be fairly cheap as not overflowing with cash at the moment.

OK Easter-Star earlier in the thread suggested: “… buy a second hand Tomtom if cash is tight a 520 or 530 can be had for £50 and get truckmaps ,…”

How does one go about getting truckmaps? I suppose you download them? How much extra would this be? I suppose you can pay on-line etc? Any help much appreciated.

Go to navitotal.com and you can download everything you need.

To convert an ordinary Tomtom inot a truck sat-nav you need to change the map and the navcore (operating system), you can get both and information on how to install them free from Navitotal.

You mean 5150 then yes. By miles.

My company got a free Snooper S2000 when they bought my Mitsubishi Cantor 7.5 tonne. I use it every day and it doesn’t take me down any roads which I shouldn’t be going near (OK, in a puddle-jumper that isn’t many), but in London, it is slow to update, but so was my TomTom 550 Live. The only trouble I have is that the speaker is a bit quiet in a noisy cab (got a separate speaker for that now), and the Bluetooth isn’t compatible with my Nokia phone, so I know use the TT for that and the Tesco Fuel POI’s.
