I refused a truck

yeah lets all take the ■■■■ out of a new driver to this industry!! no wonder not many are bothering, lets all hope you all meet the romanians and bulgarians with open arms especially as they don,t mind driving any old crap!

well, he did refuse to drive a perfectly road legal truck because it smells a bit iffy :unamused:

and i dont blame him either, if the company and its staff in question cannot simply repair easy faults or even give a cab a clean, or the staff keep it clean, then as a new bod a choice as to be made within the first few minutes, tbh i would,nt have even done any checks on opening the cab i would have walked back to the office and handed keys back in and either asked if another truck was available, or wether they wanted to swop with another vehicle.

lets say i walked into their office or canteen smoking, no PPE and smelling like crap i,m sure I would be asked to leave the premises so why should a guy have to put up with working in a similar enviroment for a shift?

and back to the original post, some guys had extra work because of the agency bod, why did,nt they offer to swop trucks…

Rob, you have finally proved the missing link, you have proved that security men do not have a sense of humour! :stuck_out_tongue:

I would have insisted on a double mattress, and a full set of duvet covers, did you defect the truck?

Not only that but a memory foam mattress is required these days!

shuttlespanker:
Drive this shed the other night I couldn’t believe the state of it in fact on my 30 second walk round I discovered flies all over the number plate, 3 of them in fact! On further investigation it only had 3 lights on the light bar no alloy wheels and it didn’t have leather. Well what would you do ? There was no way I was going to take it out, I mean if my mates saw me in a 6 month old truck I would be the laughing stock of the Bowls club.

Anyway I had a chat with the Office bod to come and and have a look over this defect vehicle and while I was pointing out all these defects the poor guy was in tears ! I thought to myself this vehicle must be his pride and joy and obviously distressed at the state of it, between us I don’t think it had even been washed since yesterday, but I thought I best not make his day any worse. Well we both got into the cab to check that out and well the smell …it just didn’t have that new smell, I literally felt physically sick to my stomach :open_mouth: :open_mouth: :open_mouth:

The other thing that stood out was it was a sleeper cab and only had a single bed, wtf I thought was I really expected to use this truck? I mean this shiny new licence cost me £2000 I don’t want to risk vosa putting his grubby hands all over it ffs. I thought well enough was enough and finally made my decision to refuse to drive this truck so in the end one of his regular guys took his life in his hands and moved it forwards ten feet and the company secretary could finally get her car out and go home.

Kin hell i thought it was Jessics granny for a moment :grimacing: writing the above :grimacing: :grimacing:

I had to refuse one today. It was only a 12 plate so it was obviously a death trap. It had no electric mirrors so it was unsafe, I mean how the hell can you move them with no switch. Then the straw that broke the camels back;- no auxiliary socket for my i pod :open_mouth: :open_mouth: :open_mouth:

robroy:
I have seen pics of your smart motors and I reckon you would neither allow them to get into a state…

Based on the state of mine when he opened the door on Friday I had better keep my mouth shut

Oh ■■■■, have I dropped you in it

Nice one lol, does show that vosa are retraining the drivers of the future though! Still what is this disc thing they keep talking about and this walk around check is that when they cant remember where the keys have been left…

No kinda did that myself by not disappearing when I parked up…

Tbh thou i have had cabs before (this is after smoking in work places was banned), the office staff knew that the driver smoked, hell even the loaders knew he smoked.
This is after a quick clean of that tray alone…

Now the rest of the cab was very much the same.
I did the shift and tried to clean it a bit! (shut up spanky  ) Could have refused it but at the rate i was never gonna do that. I know some will say I let the side down but like i say the rate was good and dragged the day out enough as well!

Now if that single bunk that Shuttlespank was on about was topped with a Liverpool* duvet then I would be walking…

  • To be honest any football team would have the same effect

I think the OP post is a good laugh, but it also put the finger on the sore point.

Many “proffesional” drivers look down on fleet vehicles, basic spec or if its not xxxxxxxxl, superduperglobetrotroadhousehighlinemega with 2000 bhp. While on multi drop and every night home work.
VOR for cigarette lighters not working, not able to do a night out because the “normal” driver cleared it, but put his stuff in the locker and locked it, VOR because the expansion bottle for the tanker heating was missing its cap, while loading cider, etc. etc.

While I’m a big believer in road legal, sometimes I think that people find an excuse not to do the job for even the silliest reason, without even offering the company to solve it.
And yes if you have to do a night out, I think that you may expect a reasonable bed and reasonable clean cab.
But for a normal day work you can set your standard a little lower, I would think.

And while I be a non smoker and hate the smell of smoke, if she was blond, nice pair and willing, many of would have a go and forget about the smoke.
I am always suprised that people who moan about smoking, would go in a pub (when smoking was allowed) without a problem.
So I think if I realy wanted the job, i could have lived a day with it.

By the way, when I started in Transport the best companies to learn, where the one with old scabby fleet, they would leave you to get on with it, without all the H&S crap around it.
My first International trip was to Germany in a old daycab 2300 Daf, because the planner had made a mistake. Learned a lot very quickly them 3 days :grimacing:

My defect report read"no frilly curtains" VOR

As far as im concerned a trucks a truck, as long as there is money in the bank every fri i dont care what i drive  Our day men whinge and whine cos they have to drive 62 plate renault premiums :open_mouth: REALLY surely the fact they are in employment erning decent wages as the country is the way that it is would be enough but we’re drivers and moaning is something we’re really good at :unamused:

None of these new drivers are ever going to be pioneers are they like the men who went into the middle east or russia when it began.when we have a problem i tell the lass to go outside and sort it out, we had a problem
With drivers dropping rubbish in the yard until i caught one doing it. Nobody does that anymore.what happened to men being men?

How easy it is to take the ■■■■, I have been involved in this industry since the early seventies as a driver , an owner operator for 30 years and an occasional agency driver from a time when agencies didn’t really exist. What would it take for you to refuse to take a truck out even if it was on the surface ‘road legal’.

■■■■ bottles under the seat

Dog hairs and possibly fleas.

Chip papers and empty sour milk cartons

Non working radios, particularly on long night trunks.

I have come across all of these over the years and usually ended up doing the job anyway because I needed the money but I’m f****d if I would now.If an operator is prepared to let a truck get in a state where a driver would even contemplate doing a 70 mile round trip for nothing and even losing money then for me that would say enough about that operators opinion of drivers.

An ex colleague told me he couldn’t do my new job, as I don’t have a regular motor. True, but the money I take home now iswhat I used to gross.

BUT did he put a defect in
