I refused a truck

Drive this shed the other night I couldn’t believe the state of it in fact on my 30 second walk round I discovered flies all over the number plate, 3 of them in fact! On further investigation it only had 3 lights on the light bar no alloy wheels and it didn’t have leather. Well what would you do ? There was no way I was going to take it out, I mean if my mates saw me in a 6 month old truck I would be the laughing stock of the Bowls club.

Anyway I had a chat with the Office bod to come and and have a look over this defect vehicle and while I was pointing out all these defects the poor guy was in tears ! I thought to myself this vehicle must be his pride and joy and obviously distressed at the state of it, between us I don’t think it had even been washed since yesterday, but I thought I best not make his day any worse. Well we both got into the cab to check that out and well the smell …it just didn’t have that new smell, I literally felt physically sick to my stomach :open_mouth: :open_mouth: :open_mouth:

The other thing that stood out was it was a sleeper cab and only had a single bed, wtf I thought was I really expected to use this truck? I mean this shiny new licence cost me £2000 I don’t want to risk vosa putting his grubby hands all over it ffs. I thought well enough was enough and finally made my decision to refuse to drive this truck so in the end one of his regular guys took his life in his hands and moved it forwards ten feet and the company secretary could finally get her car out and go home.

Tongue firmly in cheek…

I would have insisted on a double mattress, and a full set of duvet covers, did you defect the truck?

It appears to me that in reality this train of thought is being applied by most of todays steering wheel attendants , all that seems missing is the Scania badge .

I don’t get it… I thought you owned the truck(s) where you work…

Oh, wait…

where have i heard this before

I hope you put your card in before you moved it

I think he got a mixed response on his thread - his thread, NOT THIS ONE.

I put that my mate works for said company, and he’s not the kind of person to take any crap, and he’s been there years, but also said that if the ‘facts’ in the OP were correct, I’d have also refused to drive it, but put in a defect note too and contacted the agency demanding the 8hrs pay - present and willing to work etc.

did it have a dab radio ?

  Like your style Shuttle, but on the other hand maybe the lad had a point, (the other “Was I right” post not yours  ) ok I know it was a bit ott to refuse to take it and walk, and maybe being a bit green he probs genuinely thought it was unroadworthy or even illegal to be taped up etc, on reflection he should have got the motor checked and ok.d by the garage, and his defect sheet signed to cover his arse. As for the stink, being a non smoker myself I’ve got to sympathise, why the hell should he suffer some inconsiderate knob’s sh, and as others have said like it or not it IS illegal! I have seen pics of your smart motors and I reckon you would neither allow them to get into a state or expect any new driver to sit in a stinking sh.hole for 13 to 15 hrs, when I had motors if a new lad started I always made sure it was clean and tidy so he would keep it that way. So as much as I thought your post was a good laugh  , we should mebbs cut this new lad a bit of slack, too many drivers, mostly the older ones, are prepared to put up with any old crap as they know nowt else, so maybe it’s time for the oldies to learn from the young lads for a change eh?
