It’s posts like this that fill me with a warm, cosy feeling. I will not be unemployed any time soon. It is ‘drivers’ like this, that allow me to walk into any job, without bending over and passing the lube back…

You’re thinking to deep. Its the fact you have a HGV licence that you will not be unemployed anytime soon and not neccesarily any percieved deficeit in other drivers. I’d already ruled out any outstanding ability of yours as that doesn’t come across in your posts, you may have them its just that they don’t come across. You just seem like an average lorry driver to me. Full of it.

No, it’s because I have my head screwed on, that is why I am always working. As for what comes across here, that is the interweb. It means nothing. I could be a 20 stone driver, a 12 year old school girl, a bored sales rep in Iowa…
Most of us see, and use this site as what it is. Temporary entertainment to while away our boredom.

Wow. I shan`t be bending over for any one. Thanks all the same.
I won`t be un-employed any time soon either. I have a good work ethic, and on the strength of passing my class 2 I have been offered more than one job from people I have worked for previously in other roles.
There are a number of “rules” that simply do not make sense. I dont understand them because they are frankly ridiculous, I have never known so many contradictions. The one thing I do have going for me is if Im not sure, Ill ask, and Ill check it out and find the facts. I`d rather that, than needing the lube for getting shafted by the DVSA

I don’t think it’s that complicated personally. Could be simpler granted but the basics are easy to learn
I’d of thought the basics where easy to grasp too. This recent thread told me they aint!!! viewtopic.php?f=2&t=140174
Thats not a pop at the OP of that thread, nor you nor me…i had to go google it to check. I wasn’t certain. I’m sure i wasn’t alone even from experienced drivers, there wasn’t much conviction there was there ? I gathered a …wait for Tachograph to come along and confirm… was as solid a conviction as we where gonna get !!!
Such a simple basic question too.

Thank you for that, you made me feel a bit less like the “thicko” on the board
The thing is, and Ive spoken with someone about this just yesterday, the CPC (Theory and Practical) simply doesnt cover “The Rules”. The theory book and learning material is aimed at “read repeat copy repeat”. The exams to me are pointless, and it`s the wrong way around.
Rather that desperately scratting round for learning material (as I had to do, see my thread on here in the newbies section) to sit a couple of multiple choice exams and a “show me and tell me”, I honestly think new drivers should have to do a CPC type course, proper classroom learning, where you can ask questions to a tutor who can really help it sink in with the things you are unsure of. I got 47 out of 50 on the CPC multiple choice, and 97 out of 100 on the other multiple choice thing. I also got a 100% pass mark on the Mod 4. I absolutely smashed it by their standards, yet I still dont get a lot of the "rules" as I havent had it explained in a way I can make sense of it.

But that’s just it your not finding out the facts your coming on here asking advise about basic stuff. Some of the answers you are being given are wrong.
I appreciate the laws can be complicated but it’s never been easier to find them and learn them.
You obviously have Internet so Google drivers hours and regs on the DVSA website and learn them for yourself.
Some of the advise given on forums like this are opinions only and not facts.
DVSA website is facts.
The best advise anybody can give you is look them up, print them off and learn them for yourself.
The fact that you find them confusing will be no defence should you get caught out doing something you shouldn’t simply because you don’t understand the rules!'!

You think Im taking anything said on here as gospel?? ... Erm no, just throwing it out there to "learn" what others have to say about it, and Ive had some brilliant feedback which has helped me no end.

I have, I`ve done it to death. It contradicts itself more times that Donald Trump, hence the confusion.

I have no intention of using it as a defense. I have had some really good advice on here via pm. Ive had some good reading material sent my way, and Im taking it all in. Surely, if you are unsure on the interpretation of a rule it is better to ask?
Midnight Rambler:
What exactly are the rules you don’t understand? Ask for the specific rules to be explained, it can’t be everything you don’t understand.
My main confusion was the “Fixed” week and weekly rests. (days you can work on the bounce)
A fixed week is 00:00 Monday to 23:59 Sunday, so Id had a reduced weekly rest in the 1st week on the Wednesday, and was then planning to have the Saturday and Sunday off the following week for a full weekly rest. But apparently thats not allowed as I would have worked too many days on the bounce as I would have worked Tues, Weds off, Thurs/Fri/Sat/Sun (1st week) … Then … Mon/Tues/weds/Thurs/Fri (second week). Within “the rules” as I understood them, Id have had the Weds off the 1st week as a reduced weekly rest (between the so called fixed week mon - sun) and then 2 days weekly rest off the following week (the Sat/Sun) again between the so called fixed week, but I was told I couldnt do that as Id have worked to many days back to back. So the Fixed week 00:00 Monday to 23:59 Sunday is bollox then really isnt it?? … Am I making sense? This is the catalyst to me starting this thread. As the so called rules seem to change?
Yes you would of been breaking the rules working 9 consecutive days, you are allowed to work only 6 days before taking either a reduced weekly rest of 24 hours or a regular weekly rest of 45 hours. The fixed week 00:00 Monday - 23:59 Sunday is of no relevance here, the week starts from the end of your last weekly rest either reduced or regular regardless of the particular day it was.
