That sounds like the summary of every school report I ever received!

Giving feedback and advice on grammar isn’t constructive ■■?

You may not know this, but there was quite a discussion about spelling and grammar on TN some years ago.

It was decided that if somebody’s writing is understandable, it doesn’t matter whether the spelling or grammar is quite correct.

This type of criticism actually isn’t constructive because people tend to judge things by their own standards, which leaves them open to criticism from those whose knowledge is greater. It also starts off petty name calling and then quickly takes a decent topic… off topic.

That’s not even considering the other reasons for apparent poor spelling or grammar, which are things such as a genuine typo (which can happen to anybody) or auto-correct which a person may not notice has taken place.

:bulb: Let’s face it, none of us are language professors and this isn’t a forum for academics.

And for extra points…on a M plate.

123 V8 rob, completely rebuilt and full engine rebuild. side pipes makes it sound a real monster. M reg m8 spot on. Like me it is a real head turner, now my regular motor, beautiful to drive but have to be careful as it has so much torque if you step on the accelerator hard it will and has snapped the prop.

123 V8 ■■
That’s a new one on me.
I’ve driven 81, 111, 141, 112, 82, 142, 113, 143, and a couple of 4 series (as avatar) but cannot remember model no.s …but a 123, never heard of one.

143 you knew what I meant… my typo

No! I obviously did not know what you meant…hence the query.

A Scania 123, aye?

Give yourself peace, Aldridge, you rip roaring thunderfud. :unamused:

There is a guy on here who is now retired, that I am in touch with, who is a real nice canny bloke and a very knowledgeable old style driver, who has done most stuff in the job since the sixties…I will not mention any names, but he does post from time to time.

He has told me in the past that he has been reluctant to come on as often as he would like, as he has trouble with spelling etc.
This is a shame as the guy has a lot to offer on here and could teach some of the newbies a lot. :bulb:

I have told him not to bother as anybody who picks him up on anything like that, aint worth bothering about anyway.

Only time I will pick somebody up on something like that on here (and I very rarely have) is if they are being an epic smartarse, trying to be funny, and thinking that they are more clever than they actually are.

I hate to break it to you but there really is nothing rare about a 143. Of all the classics those bloody things are the most common to point where some truck shows have become a dull parade of 143’s. And yes, lots of them still work, as (apparently) you’ve found out. You have my deepest sympathies if you have to drive one of them every day… :unamused:

Excellent truck in their day, I think last one I drove was brand new in 96.
As I said…‘‘In their day’’, things have moved on, I would not want a one today.

And in their day an F10/12 was a better truck. The Volvo is certainly nicer to drive now having driven them both. I think the 143 is overhyped to a ridiculous amount these days

Agreed wholeheartedly Rob, so in the first instance I usually point out the earlier discussion we had on here on that very topic.
Benefit of the doubt though, because not everybody is familiar with that discussion TBF.

That particular kind of poster is thankfully quite rare, but some of them make their own classic errors so it would be impolite if their own errors weren’t pointed out to them. (Seeing as they started it.) :grimacing:

Did you ever drive the old square F16s? I never got a go on the large Volvos. I loved the FL12 and thought the Gloebtrotter looked the business.

Our one is great fun to drive, wouldn’t swap my current one for it though. Even if it doesn’t have a limiter.

Not the 16 no but Virginia have an F10 I’ve been out in a few times. A real beauty to drive, much better than their 143

I never had the pleasure of either a F12, or 16s.
I had an F7 (cracking little motor) and briefly an F10 when they first came out.
If what Luke says is true, they must have been one hell of a motor if better than a V8 143 450, as they could pull like hell, and just keep holding on while climbing.
The 4 series was not a patch on the 3.
Christ…I’m sounding like a real trucker here. :sunglasses:

I had an F16 demo for a week. My normal drive at the time was an F10, so a big difference. Lovely drive, nice Gob-Stopper cab. 4 wheeler with black paint and a chrome stack too. Pulled a full tanker out of the south of France with it. Came up the wee bank on the A62 out of Narbonne like nothing else around at the time. Boss wasn`t too impressed with the fuel figures unfortunately.

I had an F7 (cracking little motor):

When I was about 8 years old, used to walk the 1-2 miles or so to school with my Mum. At the time my old man worked for Lockwoods. The local shunter used to drive an old F7 from the base of the village at the old train sidings near the sugar beat factory to the old bomber airfield where Lockwoods was based. Every day I’d wave and he waved back. My old man knew him and said he was a top bloke. He wore a flat cap, so I got one and used to wear it to school  . Every time he saw me he’d wave from his F7 and be in stitches

It doesn’t sound like your bothered.

First thing you’ve got right in this whole thread!

UKtramp:
Lets be perfectly honest here, you have not got a driving position and never had. Please post some proof like the pictures that I post and let’s see.

Well being correct didn’t last long for you did it? I’m not going to quantify or justify myself to you, and I’m certainly not sinking to your level of childishness of posting pics like the cringe worthy “Hello Reef” ones you posted in a Premium back last year.

UKtramp:
Please refrain from calling me a ■■■■ too, there is no need and no call for it.

Sorry it’ll never happen, I’m one of the old school where a spade is a spade and if you act like a ■■■■ I’m certainly going to call you one, either that or cupcake, your choice

i owned and ran this one after stuart taylors ran it ragged for years then i played with it till i wrote it off…lost all my other pics so this is all i have.
i know it got rebuilt and prob worth more now than 20 years ago.

Neat looking machine. You owned it? Nice. I got seriously close some years back to buying a jet black 143. Stunning looking. Twelve grand though. Misses was having non of it and difficulty finding somewhere to keep it. Then I wised up as there’s only so much driving to shows you can do I think. What I really wanted was to drive it around with a flat bed on my days off, moving the odd bits and pieces  . Then I remembered that was called being a vehicle operator

UKtramp:
I cant show the outside of the cab as our name is splattered all over it and because of the stalking hatred towards me on here, I do not want anyone knowing who I am or where I work.

Why not wait until your agency stint is over, then post us some pics?

Bet you could kick yourself now! For £12k you could have popped it in the shed and left it and you’d get 3 times that for it now

Oh no, you’re kidding? So didn’t need to hear that   . It was gawwwwjus too. Belonged to a tanker fleet originally. Remember the plate had 500 in it. Maybe m500? Can’t remember.

Story of my life, passed over a Porsche 964 for 8k (I know, I know  )
