…but now i bat for this team.
I had nearly 7 years with Culina and couldn’t fault any of it but thought i’ll have a change, any thoughts ? Am i still considered a proper trucker now that i’m transporting supermarket trollies ?
I work for Asda up in Scotland. 51yrs old & I’v done the other stuff, this will be my last job, easy work, good bunch to work with, not expected to do silly long shifts, suits me fine. It’s a job you can plan your life around, I know when I’ll be finished each day (barring hold ups & road problems) As always on here though, some won’t like it cos they’re not sleeping in lay-by’s all week, but each to their own.
Congrats’ BB, I assume you’re working out of the new RDC at Avonmouth, so you can thank me for that, as we took a few loads of ACO Drains down to that site whilst they were building it. [emoji106]
We were In & out a lot quicker than delivering Goods to the Bloody Place now, I bet [emoji57]
nick2008:
So are you on the wed thurs fri sat sun mon shift ?
I hear it’s min hours at the moment till they so say get the additional stores on board .
Just re read your shift post
So you on days still or you doing a mix ?
I went from chilled work ( Corby , innovate, stobards ) - fresh/ ambient ( Stob/ tesco tie in) , I to this day hate it , I’ve the next two weeks on it ( tesco ) and am not looking forward to it one bit , maybe will make me realise that flats / concrete isn’t as bad as I think .
If these firms ever get round to checking references ( xmas slowing procedure they say ) I’m off back on fridges / chilled work .
Money / conditions might be better on super market working direct for them ,but there’s more to a job than money ,happiness being one .
Good luck to you bb , if that’s what you want , but not something I’d want

Nice one !! I heard they only recruited 5, one of our full timers and an agency lad stared with them, nice new depot, good hourly rate as well.
You never hear of anyone leaving except to retire, drivers on here like to knock supermarket drivers for some reason, its quality stress free work that pays a proper wage.
I did a fair bit of supermarket work, albeit on agency. The downside was mainly that it was pretty boring. Once you know the shops and suss out the best way to get in, there’s not much else to it. The upside, as people have said above, is that it is dead easy work and predictable hours with all the big company benefits.
I don’t know if you still can, but I usually managed to get a cheap meal in the staff canteen at the bigger shops. A bit of cheerful banter with the back-door staff works wonders as always.
Congratulations on the new job, Ive done work for Aldi & Morrisons in the past but never for Asda, do you self tip or do you sit that part out ? Used to love the Morrisons work, put truck on bay and head to canteen for an hour easiest gig ive ever had
I think supermarket drivers spend more time in city centres than motorways. Where general is prob the other way around. I’ve done both and no preference as long as it’s an easy day and well within my comfort zone. I go to work to earn money these days and not for ‘challenges’.
