I forgot I left the caravan on!

Whoever was more in the wrong, mit looks like more damage was caused to the caravan by the road sign or lamppost it hits rather than the truck. It kinda scrapes the truck, then explodes after whipping into the sign.

I’d agree with a few people that the trucker probably spotted him and had enough of it, floored it etc.

But the caravan driver was driving like a top notch bellend, no denying that.

The local press initially implied the accident was the truck’s fault…they then said that the car driver lost control after hitting a sign or bollard.

The car appears to be out of control before the caravan hits the front of the truck.

When the previous car (the Audi) overtakes, its already using the ‘closing’ portion of the dual carriageway…it would have been dangerous for the Ford to overtake even without the caravan.

Could the truck have stopped to let the caravan past?

Possibly, but I think it still would have wiped itself down the outside of the truck.

Im sure that the Knob jockey in the Mondeo will be the talk of campsites all over the UK, just wonder what yarn he’s gonna tell the insurance company… Bet they had a good laugh when they see the Dash Cam evidence

10 out of 10 for comedy value… just a little surprised that some on here say why didn’t the lorry driver give way, I question why should he… hatched markings and double white lines… if you can’t move over in time and your on the outside then its you that should back off and filter in…

It’s a bit like at Catthorpe when you’ve queued to get under the bridge onto the A14 and some wise ■■■■ tries to nip in at last minute. Can’t help myself they have to be hung out to dry

I was forced into a situation very similar to this, but in my Landrover.
Similar road layout, bar the Island in the middle, but some spotty oik in a chavved up corsa thought he could overtake me. Sadly, his puny little car wasn’t as fast as he thought and he found himself on the wrong side of the road with an oncoming car after the dual lane ran out. He was beside me and seemed to have no intention of stopping and the car coming the other way was closing in fast. To avoid a potential head on, I took evasive action and ditched into the verge, Unfortunately my big off road tyres slewed me straight back where I came from, and where Mr oik had now positioned him self.

Safe to say my Landrover faired better than his peice of crap.

Police sided with me, a witness stopped and almost knocked the kid out for driving like a ■■■, and his insurance company eventually admitted liability and paid out in full.

Moral of the story, even if you try and avoid the situation, if the douche in the car is intent on the overtake, then they will perform it regardless of what you do, or whats coming the other way.

Oh and as a character reference, the kid also got caught doing 90mph through a 40mph zone a few weeks later I discovered whilst reading the paper.

^^^^^ 90 in a 40 whilst reading the paper? The kids got talent at least.

Beat me to that!

No points for second place Hammy!

Well that was satisfying to watch

Must Be a lie, I don’t think he could read. He could barely lift his knuckles off the floor.

I’d like to know…when the truck passes the bollard, how far behind the unit the front of the car actually was, as it’s not until the bollard has long since disappeared, the car appears…how ‘Mondeo Man’ (I gotta be careful, as I own one myself, just a spunkier model!) thought he was gonna make it is unbelievabubble!! I understand the camera might not be in the best position for a frontal impact (facing a bit high maybe?) but even so, Caravan Joe is clearly a tool and obviously didnt get flashed in or know the exact length of his outfit!!

He obviously couldn’t or he wouldn’t have got caught speeding!!!

Love to see dashcam footage from the Mondeo! … or someone going the other way.

Perhaps because it, uh, might have avoided an accident? I know to a lot of lorry ‘drivers’ it’s all about proving how macho they are and the Billy Big Trucker ■■■■■■■■ but the guy in the video is as much of a fool as the shed dragger is.

Dont know how any of you can blame the lorry driver look at the speed of the car hes not hanging around also as somebody else pointed out the lorry is well past the bollards apart from the fact it is the overtakers responsibility to make sure he has enough room to do so. I use that road regularly and cars are always pushing there luck there, the car should have realised he wasnt going to make it and pulled back more like macho car drivers. I can also understand the lorry not pulling over too far as there is quite a drop of the road there as well.

This could have been a lot worse than sweeping up the fibreglass - it could have been a very nasty head-on with an old dear in a Daewoo Matiz coming the other way.

Wouldn’t be surprised if it came out that Mondeo Man went round the bollards, don’t know how he could end up where he did otherwise.

Every day we see stunt drivers like this with this ridiculous mentality.

What a silly stunt, pass the Isopon.

It’s quite simple really; he saw what was happening and chose to accelerate to make sure it happened.

It’s what seperates us from you, the drivers from the screwdrivers; a bit of restraint and professionalism in that split second when you have to decide between forcing an accident that may be deemed not your fault or carrying on with your day.

Don’t worry yourself though, 90% of TruckNet’s readership also won’t get it. You’re in the majority. :unamused:

Exactly.

…and now he’s looking for another job and can’t sleep because of it. :unamused:

Anyway, night night people, I’m going to put my dash cam on charge and then I’m off to bed to sleep soundly, safe in the knowledge that I didn’t make “an accident” out of the many opportunities that I had today.

Well I can’t see why he refused to carry on with no o/s mirror. I mean; he didn’t use the bloody thing anyway… or did he.

Mondeo driver was an idiot and the sort of “me before everyone else” person I hate, but there was no way that truck driver didn’t see it coming. In the same situation … would I have pretended not to see a car towing a caravan trying to squeeze past? Maybe if I thought I could get away with it just to teach them a lesson but in reality probably not.

The fact the truck driver had time to blast the horn says to me that he was aware of what was going to happen and just ploughed on through cos it was his right of way.

Thing is I find it just basic instinct to try to avoid an accident. No matter how mad it makes me I automatically hit the brakes to avoid someone elses idiocy. Doesn’t matter if the caravan driver “wins” by cutting me up. I would like to think I would jump out at the next junction and punch the driver in the head, but in reality I would probably just forward the footage to the police.

Good to see the Mondeo driver get his comeuppance for such a foolish move, but the lorry driver could and should have absolutely avoided it.
