I forgot I left the caravan on!

What a mess. While I would say the car driver is clearly “at fault”, through lack of judgment/skill when towing a caravan, our brother trucker didn’t cover himself with glorious professionalism did he?

:unamused: :unamused: :unamused:

Yes, what a mess indeed. At first I thought something was going to happen on the other side of the road coming towards the dash cam. Made me jump when I saw that, lol.

I’d bet my spare third and fourth ■■■■■■■ that dashcam man saw it developing in his mirror and decided to let it. Tbh I’m not gonna slate him for that, how many of us have wanted to do the same? Difference here is he had video evidence to back him up so he went for it.

If I had to pick fault with him I’d echo what Honked said and say he should’ve closed that lane off much earlier, he was inviting it to happen tbh.

Its a good job it was a manual daf,i bet the caravanman thought it was a auto and he would ■■■■ it the speed them bags of cack pull away

Why would you even attempt to beat the truck to the merge in the road towing a caravan in the first place unless as someone has said he hadn’t set off from a standing start which I very much doubt as he was the first vehicle to come into view.

like to know how this idiot caravanner thought he could possibly get by when there was nowhere to go

This is the lorry driver’s account Cut & pasted from Facebook

“Ok just to set the record straight as I can’t sleep. When I was stopped at the lights there was one car by the side of me the red one. There was a box van behind me that had been there from the time just after I came off the M5. We pulled off from the lights. I only have 6 tons on so was short shifting 480 horse truck gross weight no more than 22 to will get to 30 quite quick. As I was going through the gears the red car passed me I looked in the mirror and saw the box van was not trying to pass I did see a car and caravan but this was behind and to the right of the box van and looked like he was going to pull in behind the box van less than 8 - 10 seconds later glanced in the mirror as something caught my attention. This is when I hit the horn and the brakes as hard as I could. Stopped lorry in around 20 yards and got up on the curb as much as I dare as anyone who knows where this happened will tell you there are large concrete blocks just off the path where I stopped. I was not trying to block him out as estimates suggest he came through the lights at about 50 mph. Hope this makes sense as not had much sleep since. Oh and I am not a newbie. Had a class 1 for 24 years. Cheers.”

I’m looking for some 'van accessories, wonder where the wreck was taken
A Mondeo would pull one of them with no probs Conor as they weigh next to nowt nowadays and why you see so many arse over ■■■ !

Top notch entertainment. A fibreglass toilet destroyed. Good.
Nobody hurt. Good.
Truck drivers account claiming he was taken by surprise. Not so good.

In fact, complete bollox. We all check our mirrors and 99% of us know when we are approaching merged lanes that a certain amount of impatient knobs push their luck. The driver wanted to be Billy Big Balls. Wonder if he would have felt cool if the mondeo would have wiped out a motorcyclist and/or pedestrian(s),on the other side of the road as it slewed out of control.

A lesson for us all here. By proving some sort of point, you could kill or maim somebody totally innocent.

I see a sharp looking water barrel for you there Raymundo!!!

I don’t believe some of the reasoning here, the caravanners demise was totally self inflicted, just because we are in possession of a higher grade licence as such yes we need to be a bit more about ourselves and drive sensibly/defensively but trying to second guess kamikaze car drivers I don’t think so. I would not be surprised if the car driver was either ■■■■■■■■■■■■■ or partially sighted.

Dunno, looks to me like it might have come from the Beechris school of dashcam incident engineering.

Already got to of them aqua rolls  I need all the other gear like bedding cutlery crockery etc. Let all of ours go when I sold me last van :frowning:

I recognised the road as the A39 into Glastonbury. This spot is notorious for people trying to cut each other up. It is single carriageway but for some reason a pathetically short bit of dual at the lights. It simply encourages people to race each other to the merge in point. There is no way the trucker can be at fault. Simply no way. These ■■■■■■■■■ in cars must get in front at all costs. I’m glad he wrecked his poxy caravan.

+1
That caravan wasn’t going slightly faster than the truck, he was going way to fast for the developing conditions. I would be very surprised if he escaped without points on his licence for that one
The driver seems to be making a big deal over nothing though. He cant sleep because some car driver uses his truck to wipe his own arse out? Sounds like either playing the sympathy card or needs to deal with stress management one way or the other. From his perspective it is a very minor event. A slight ■■■■ on his unit and not his fault. What is there to lose sleep over?

Entirely avoidable. The caravan shouldn’t of gone for it, but also the lorry driver should of seen him coming…it’s 2 lanes merging so you both check mirrors etc and merge where appropriate. How on earth didn’t he see the numpty coming, the hgv driver could of backed off and perhaps should of (granted mondeo shouldn’t have gone for it but he did ) ) alls that would of happened would be mister mondeo getting one over on the hgv, it’s not the end of the world is it. This accident could of been a hell of a lot worse. On these forums we wonder why were a second class citizen, it’s for episodes like this. The mondeo shouldn’t of had a go but he did, if it’s not him, it’s your average golf gti or salesman or white van man. If you see the accident developing or you see danger , back it off. We don’t own the road

100% agreed - trucker cannot be at fault - if you look at road markings the caravan owner would have been already in the zig zag white lines and just pushing his luck - probably done it many times before but didn’t work this time…why would you try your luck with a truck hmmmm idiot - he didn’t consider anyone but himself which is evident, as if anyone was coming in the opposite direct he would have cleared them up…I reckon police should ban him from driving for 12 months and fine him for dangerous driving…

The trucker should dust himself off - tell the caravan owner next time think about others you dim wit ! sorry no sympathy from me, all I was concerned for was that he could have involved an innocent party. Drive in Oz and see so much bad driving everyday, with so many misses its becoming a joke.

It’s probably the guilt. He knows he’s not entirely innocent.

He’s Probably not - but hand on heart ! how many times as this happened to us all and have you thought if only I put give this bloody truck more power - be truthful, because I know I have. To many idiots on the road and all in a hurry and this is what happens.

I hate people who cut in front of trucks, as they have no idea how long it takes to stop and the thoughts that are going though your mind when placed in the situation. :sunglasses:

I like to see a wheelie-shed smashed to bits as much as the next man… but I’m going to play devil’s advocate here.

You can see the point at which he realises the shed dragger is going for it because he starts holding it in gear longer and his clutch work becomes a bit more rapid. He’s desperate not to let that chemical toilet cubicle through.

He could’ve continued at his leisurely pace, but instead chose to gun it and force an accident. Bravo. Very professional.

According to the facebook comments, he’s jacking his job in because of it. A wise decision I’d say.

Agree with this, you can hear it. When he sets off it’s nice and easy, no over revs, slow gear changes. as soon as he sees the caravan he floors it, revs higher and changes gear quicker than he has been.
I know this happens to us all and most drivers would back off a bit but still give the horn and the wnker sign, but to actually floor it… You aint no professional driver. And those that say he didn’t see it… You aint no professional driver, Check your mirrors, speeding up… check your mirrors… two lanes to one… check your mirrors,
