i loaded there when i was working for a Frans Maas subbie, full load of lighter gas refil cans for Porto, Portugal, middle of summer, crapped myself all the way there!!
im sure i put my pics on here from my time at Frans Maas, cant be bothered to check, easier to put them up again, 1995-1996ish, i worked out of Tilbury, usually going to Germany, some France (usually Marseilles) some Portugal Spain and 1 trip to Greece
this was the first motor i had, (ex Fairweather) it was around 7 yrs old when i got it (and nothing as nice condition as in this pic!) and had been converted to a tag axle, i had it for around 6 months
then got this brand new (N reg)
pic with a brand new Montracon trailer, somewhere in France
Cheers Nick, that was a good truck. Shame its now a bit bent in some Spanish scrap yard! It was ex Norbert Dentressangle. The Iveco was a goodun as well (for an Iveco!), ex Murfitts. The DAF SSC’s were ex Cranleigh Freight I think. Diest round trips, happy days!!!

Hi, I remember that at the time Dowell freight from canvey island i think used to pull the trailers. They had scania 110 day cabs with a fold down bunk behind the seats, and i also remember loading a currys of dumfries trailer going to paris. Not long after that Elm transport moved to an industrial estate at the back of Man Utd’s ground and Frans Maas moved to sharston so i didn’t really know of the subbies that worked for them after that.

sorry. But i think it’s the same company. Only here ar it Scania 111 tractors.
Left Scania 111 for an FM trailer.

Hi Bert, The scania’s i’m talking about i saw in 1976/77 but i don’t remember when they were registered. They must have been from the basildon depot as i remember some of the driver’s lived in canvey island. I’m sure the cabs were white with green lettering but it was a few years ago !!

Hi swiftnick, It was for me thinking the same name. Now i no that this A. Dowell & Sons was coming from Essex. Maybe someone has photos of Dowell from Canvey Island driving for the Basildon depot.
Here 2 Dutch tracktors from Frans Maas Groningen in Germany on the way to Travemünde.
Harsbruck Shell station on de A28 between Oldenburg and Bremen.
Ostethal parking on the A1 between Bremen and Hamburg.

hiya
i can confirm that A dowell & sons did indeed come from Burntmills ind estate in Basildon and also a yard in Woolpit - Suffolk just down from Leggets yard.
Supplying traction with the 111 scanias around the uk for FM.
there was a driver Mickey Whipps used to park at Canvey island.
Later Dowells had some turbostars running Portugal for FM Also

When P&O Orsett closed ALEX ■■■■■■■■ opted to by a new 143M TOPLINE = F260 SMK
hi, now theres a reg that put a lump in my throat. f260smk. i drove it for the last 2 years it was on the road in 2001 to 2003 before it was sold for breaking or export. it was still going strong trunking down to spain and back, ive got some pictures of the old girl some were il post em when i find them. after f260 was sadly releaved of its hard duties i was given k2 rof a 143 500 ex peter roff motor. now that took the sting out of loosing f260 it was an awsome truck.
Here i have an line up of DAF 95 ATI tractors from Frans Maas Groningen in may 1989.
