I am Christian

MisterStrood:
Thank you for making that more clear for me although I am not convinced with what you are all saying.
And if I can have a last word about London Olympics to Mr. Swith - which flag is going to wave on mast during the games ?
May you all have a good night.

It will be the Union Flag, because it is a Union or collection of 4 separate countries. It certainly wont be called the British Flag.

Probably a London 2012 flag. And I’d put money on there being flags from all four nations of the United Kingdom there somewhere as well as the Union flag as Wheel Nut says.

Our Nation is Great Britain made up of 4 Countries. Its good to see reference to the Union Flag and not the Union Jack as it is only called that when flown from the Jack staff of H.M. ships.

Aye Aye.

I am a bit pedantic about my own country and interested in the history of it.

MisterStrood:
You were born in England, which makes you British English if you like.
I said there is no English nationality.
Relax

I personally am a little bit confused  so if we go back to the christian debate mr strood i was baptised in the church of england so if english as a nationality doesnt exist how can it have a church? I’m not a practicing christian and i dont so much believe as appreciate some of the morals of the “stories”.
I always tick other then write English on application forms and silly surveys that say british. It winds me up. They ask me my nationality i.e. what country i was born in… I’m ■■■■ sure it was england unless wolverhampton has sudden fled 200miles north
Well this thread has brightened my night cheers peeps x

Entertaining as this thread is,
It dont have a lot to do with worshiping a mythical all knowing sky king.
who dont know where Switzerland is.

If GB is formed from 4 different countires that made a Union does that mean that an Englishman is Scotland is a foreigner and vice versa ? If not than why ? He is from country called England and other from Scotland.
Is it not because they decided in the past to form one Great coutry called Great Britain ?
If than because of Union he is not a foreigner I am wondering why Frenchman is ? Great Britain has joined the UE as well and has many common laws with it.

MisterStrood:

Three countries, not four.

I’m Scottish, I live in England and as far as I am concerned I live in a foreign country. When I go to Wales I visit a different foreign country.

MisterStrood:

They didn’t form a country, Great Britain is not a country, it’s a union of two kingdoms and one principality.

As well as being Scottish I am also British in the same way a person from Denmark, Norway or Sweden is also a Scandinavian.

Good point. In fact I had an argument with a Irishman once when I told him Northern Ireland wasn’t part of Great Britain.

That made everything clear and I own apologiez to some people.
I was uneducated and by many people mistaken in how that actually works  .

Just as Great Britain is not a country why The nationality in passport says British and the address is United Kingdom not England ? That is also confusing.
Never heard about nationality to be scandinavian for Swedes etc. though

So that didn’t make everything clear then?

Stop getting so hung up on what the passport says. Great Britain is a union of three countries. In a similar way the United States is just that, a union of states. You can identify as being from a Union, ie British or American, or from a State or individual country within the union, ie Texan or English. I can’t see why your finding this so hard to grasp. It’s common in places throughout the world. Ask someone from say Sicily or Crete what they are. Many would say Sicilian or Cretian. It’s really quite easy to understand.

Luke. Stop biting, he obviously has the intelligence of a Kumkwat.

I like it I’m trying to educate the poor confused soul!

Yes that was my fault whilst trying to educate. Great Britain is only England, Wales, and Scotland, we use the “and” word to include Northern Ireland.

Strangely enough the Isle of Man is not part of Great Britain either

I find that incredibly offensive. I like Kumkwats.

However, just to confuse him even further it is part of the British Isles, as is the Republic of Ireland. :stuck_out_tongue:

The Isle of Man has one of the oldest Parliaments in the world ,known as The House of Keys.On the Christain side of the debate in Scotland small towns such as Dunblane Dunkeld and Brechin are Cathedral Cities.Ours is or are funny old Countries.

I don’t go with the English cities, not since they tried to give Goole city status last weekend

Even on TV, anyone they interviewed just laughed when they were asked if they were disappointed that Goole had been pipped to the post by the City of Chelmsford.

The other two new cities are St Asaph and Perth.

And yes, you do.
Just Americans they do not say that Texas is a country. It is a state so than should be England as you are explaining. No one from America says he is not American. As the Sicilians or Cretian. Cretians call themselves most of the times Italians and Cretians Greeks. I used to live in Mediterranean so it is not a good example from you.
Maybe that is another uniqe thing about United Kingdom.
I told you guys I getting on with that and end of story.
Sorry for Edit.
I meant Sicilians calling themselves Italians as Mr. Wheel Nut brought to my attention.
