I’m betting that your Croatian friends don’t want to go back to the idea of a Yugoslav federation in which all the different ethnic groups there live together rather than in their own seperate places/countries with each keeping to their own.At least not if they’ve got any sense.

I have no issue at all with half the worlds population upping sticks and looking for the better things that are on offer, but what really boils my fluids are those that choose to move somewhere for reasons mentioned above and then try to influence the inhabitants with their culture, it doesn’t work and never will .
As Kev rightly points out " when in Rome etc ". I stick with my previous posts here , try building a church in Saudi and you’ll be the first person through chop chop square on Friday at noon .
I chose Saskatchewan for my family’s new home , we have intergrated and settled with the locals who themselves are immigrants or descendants of immigrants and have been well received but there again I don’t keep slagging off the people I want to live with , unlike the OP .So what is the point of national boundaries and the idea of ‘nation’ at all.Ironically if you’re right you’d be living in a tent and riding a horse shooting Buffalo with a bow and arrow not living a British colonial life in a British colony. While no surprise there’s more Brits who want to emigrate to Oz and Canada than Pakistan because of that issue that they don’t want to integrate with the Asian culture.Likewise when the Asians move here it’s no surprise that most of them (rightly) don’t want to integrate with a totally alien culture and there’s no way that any alien culture can integrate with ours without us losing/compromising at leat some of our own ethnicity and/or culture in return.Which,as I’ve said,is why I’ve got no issues with Southall being an Asian community and Brixton being an Afro Carribbean one.Just so long as places like Guildford can remain mostly British without some loony lefty wanting to lock me up if/when I complain about their ideas of ethnic and cultural integration everywhere just like that Commy zb Tito tried to do.
As for your idea of an integrated Canada and Obama’s USA no thanks I’d prefer 1950’s-60’s small town redneck Southern States USA any time thanks. It’s warmer

Let’s just say that Obama’s vision of North America (and the UK) is a bit different to that of Jefferson Davis. No surprise who I’d still support being ethnic British.

I can see what Carryfast is saying no one should have to give up there culture and heratige if they move elsewhere. Il always be English even if I stay in Canada the rest of my life.
But you have to put the nation where you lives way of life and beliefs above yours. I do think its the left wing pc brigade who have done the most damage though for saying its ok to not integrate and for pushing the everyone else has to pussyfoot round not saying this that or the other. Not so much.
I agree that altough it’s good to stay Polish (in my case) I should live up to British values and customs - and I do it. But when it comes to beliefs: sorry, I am not going to accept your belief that Britain is the greatest of the great in everything and all other countries ■■■■■.
I am not going to force my way of living on you, as some other migrants of specific religion do, but I see nothing wrong with sharing my knowledge with you.
What’s wrong with that if I see in my new country that something is not done the best way it could be done and I say “listen guys, in my place we do it that way and it works better!”. I am not forcing you to do anything, I just share that information. Stupid people’s answer will be “Shut up, our way to do it is the best way, because it is British way to do it!”. Wise people’s answer will be “We look into it, and if it is indeed better, we can think how to use your method to improve our own country”
Look back in the history - back in your golden era, you were ruling half of the world, yet you were open for people from all the world to come here and to share their thoughts with you. If I remember correctly from my classes, there was a Czech scholarship in Oxford as far back as 1500s that was allowing Czech Scholars to come to England and share their Husytes ideas. Polish golden era was also in the time of religious wars, when we were tolerand and all wise people of Europe, persecuted due to their religions, were finding shelter in Poland, contributing to our science and cultural life.
I know you are no longer shaking half of the world and that it can be a bit annoying for some of you, but don’t give up on improving your country by looking as how others have done something. Old Polish saying says “Two heads is allways better than one head”.
Agreed.

Blimey so they’ve already forgot that they’ve already been there and done all that socialist bs and it didn’t work. The sad thing is that there are lots of casualties there who prove me right and now the idiots want to make the same mistake all over again.
Hopefully we’ll be on our way out of the EU by then and we won’t bother going there to sort it all out the next time it all kicks off when they realise again that socialism is just a load of idealistic bs.Maybe things won’t look so good when they realise that at least one of the net contributors to what is obviously an economic scam to get more money out of western europe won’t be there.Although sadly the Brits probably aren’t bright enough to realise when they’re being taken for mugs and will just keep on staying in and paying up.

Yeah roll over and accept all the anti British tripe this guy comes out with whilst he’s enjoying the benefits of your country as opposed to his far superior homeland . Any wonder Britain’s broken with your sort of attitude
As an immigrant in Canada ,although Australian by birth I adopt their concept regarding new settlers in their land , eg " this is our country and all are welcome to come here and live as we do ,however if you attempt to bring in your own culture and practices you can foxtrot oscar".
Why do you think Britain has gone so far down the toilet in recent years ? Because you and your yoghurt knitting PC bretheren let the world and his wife flood over there and take all your hard earned taxes as disposable income , and if you’d dared to raise so much as a finger in dispute the offensive/minority utter bull crap gets waived in your face .
Don’t get me started
The muslims in Canada have brought in their own customs and culture ie, burkas and halal slaughter. Not to mention the French Canadians who choose to speak… French. I could go on.

Actually the only idiot who makes the same mistake all over again is you, for making statements in the subjects you have absolutely no idea about. Yugoslavians had pretty good life during cold war, as them not being part of the Soviet Bloc, were able to leave in socialist way not dependand of the Soviet Union - like Sweden for example. Except of course that Sweden was a real democracy and therefore Swedish socialism is much better.

The problem is that Britain, being part of the common European economy since Marshall’s plan, and being part of the global economy of commonwealth focused only on British profits before, has never really experienced “real life” of single country. Therefore all your crap about how great it will be for you to cut all your economical ties with your neightbours and bigger export markets are only wishful thinking without any sensible basis. I am really looking forward to see your face 10 years after you leave that “scam” that European Union in your opinion is
For now, I think we should cease that discussion, as it is pointless to discuss the matters with you, as you only proving that you have absolutely no idea what you are talking about, but it does not stop you from making big speeches.

I think you will find Britain has welcomed persecuted people for quite a while. Plenty of Jews from Eastern Europe washed up here well before Hitler started stomping about out that way.

Yes, Britain has accepted many of the Jews all right. From a British point of view, it was a huge influx. From a Jewish point of view - it was a fraction. Off course I don’t blame you, you could not take all the milions Jews from Europe in and nobody really believed that Nazist are capable of homicide to such extend. Even when Jan Karski, as ordered by Polish Goverment in Exile, provided a report on Holocaust and presented it to UK and USA goverments, it was met with disbelief, that such terrible things can happen…
As for accepting people that were threatened with death penalty in Stalinist Eastern Bloc for fighting in RAF or Royal Navy - well, that’s a different story. This is a book I would recomend, it was written by American historians and it was quite of an Eye Opener for some of my British friends: amazon.com/Question-Honor-Ko … 037572625X
Yes, Britain did a lot of good stuff, but much more could be done…
But I was rather reffering to the earlier periods in your history, where you were much more welcoming - but, also, being a worldwide Imperium, could afford to do so.

Yeah. When I started this thread (that you find interesting) you don’t felt it will be worth to praise me for that. But when the thread drifted away thanks to Hutpik remarks about how the things look in Scandinavia, then Flat to the mat proved hutpic’s jokeful comment about people wanting me out from UK to be true and then when I joined the discussion that was taking part here for over a page, including Carryfast, Flat to the mat, kr79 and others then guess who is to blame for pulling the thread off topic? Me. Why? Because there has to be always a foreigner to blame, am I right?
Or it’s just by “ruining a good thread” you mean when I come and I am right about something. Then I am sorry, but I won’t change

Orys are you actually aware of what happened in (what was) Yugoslavia. I spent enough time out there even before it all eventually kicked off to know that Tito’s idea was just a stupid excercise in integrating a load of different ethnic groups against their will with the inevitable results.
As for our so called ‘export markets’ which part of the definition of a trade deficit so we’ve got nothing to lose don’t you understand.
