Hi all.I was amused just having read the sky news when they said that the uk UK was ‘bracing’ itself for bad weather as there is a forecast for snow and the temp is set to’‘plummet to an arctic -5c’‘.Is it any wonder that the whole country panics when you read such utter crap.
Up here today the temp has risen to a warm -15c but is set to go back down to -25 tomorrow,’'Oh well,at least we’re guaranteed a white xmas.Mike
Yep, it sure does get cold mike…i was in Kirkenes in december one year i flew in at lunch time a taxi picked me up to take me to my hotel…it was minus 26 c. at night it was down to minus 40c …it cost me a fortune in new winter clothes…but love the summers .

If one in ten people on here posted as much useful (sure maybe not mainstream) info and trivia amoungst these forums as Orys and had such a pleasant attitude considering the crap he gets these forums would be a wiser and nicer place.

If they give me a ticket and organize me a job there, I can go anytime
Hiall.
Mark.dont get all excited,it’s called humour.
Shytalk.Hi.I have been several times in Kirkenes,it’s nice up there if a bit barren.Strangely i prefer the winters up here[i lived in Quebec so they are similar].There is so much to do inthe winter, ice fishing, skiing, snowscooter and quad driving, passing the long dark winter evenings in front of the wood stove with an enthusiastic Swedish girl in the pursuit of horizontal jogging.Since i moved up here the coldest i have experienced was -48c.So its not so bad.I once had -62c in Iqaluit Canada, that was a bit fresh.
Orys. There is plenty of work in Norway, you just have to go and look for it.
Hi Mike are you expat ? just wondered… must admit i was a lot younger then and had the pleasure of Norways lovely customs the girls were great too great in fact i have never been so drunk as i was over there mid summer night all night partys great…moonshine hangovers for 2 days not good.best time of my youth ive still got the memories…
Hi all.Shytalk.I suppose i am an expat,or i’ve tried everywhere else. I lived for nearly 30yrs in Holland,2yrs in Afghanistan and 1yr in Canada. My wife was quebecois. My dream was to retire in Canada but after my wife died so did my dream.I was working for Nijman\Zeetank[Pilkington]in Holland and drove most winters up here to Tromso as the Dutch drivers didn’t want to come here in the winter[maybe they were the clever ones]
.As it is so much like Canada up here i decided to buy a house and retire here. This i done at 56 with the intention of coming here at 62[early retirement],but at 58 i got so fed up in Europe i decided to move earlier and work longer [65]but have a better quality of life. Now i work part time driving a tipper in a mine.If i work 3-4 months i make enough to last the whole year so have a good life without the stress of long distance work, and have time to enjoy the nature here.Last year i worked 105 days and banked £10k so whats not to like.Ok i am single, have no family,no debts and everything is paid for so my life cannot be compared to other people’s.
There are still quite a few Swedes working in North Norway for the oil,gas and mining industries as they still have a shortage of labour[also here] and due to Scandinavian regulation it is not overrun with ‘‘cheap labour’’.Many of the ‘‘lesser countries’’ qualifications are not recognised up here plus a good command of the local language,or English is required for safety reasons.Take care.Mike
PS.this Mayday was also a very ‘‘happy’’ time,i think the birth rate went up significantly

Yeah roll over and accept all the anti British tripe this guy comes out with whilst he’s enjoying the benefits of your country as opposed to his far superior homeland . Any wonder Britain’s broken with your sort of attitude
As an immigrant in Canada ,although Australian by birth I adopt their concept regarding new settlers in their land , eg " this is our country and all are welcome to come here and live as we do ,however if you attempt to bring in your own culture and practices you can foxtrot oscar".
Why do you think Britain has gone so far down the toilet in recent years ? Because you and your yoghurt knitting PC bretheren let the world and his wife flood over there and take all your hard earned taxes as disposable income , and if you’d dared to raise so much as a finger in dispute the offensive/minority utter bull crap gets waived in your face .
Don’t get me started
Very true fttm. When in Rome and all that.
But I do wish the Canadians would do away with the incinerated bacon rind they pass of as bacon. I mean it still a dominion so get some back bacon not that American rubbish.

Ironically the pc lot are all about trying to force an integrationist agenda on all cultures and then calling it multi culturalism because they don’t understand the difference. It’s our open door immigration policy together with the integrationist agenda,as opposed to limited immigration and multi culturalism, which is the problem. There’s nothing wrong with orys coming here and keeping his own ethnic and cultural loyalties. In just the same way that Southall is more like India than Guildford is.
The issue is how much immigration should we allow while forced integration,of which no one is allowed to say anything against it,is just a form of reverse racism. However the fact is ethnic Brits don’t need to integrate in what are effectively our own colonies anyway.Which is why there aren’t many Brits emigrating to Pakistan or went native when they first settled in Oz and Canada.
You’re spouting ■■■■■■■■ again matey. The whole idea of migration is to improve your families lifestyle , yes ?
I have no issue at all with half the worlds population upping sticks and looking for the better things that are on offer, but what really boils my fluids are those that choose to move somewhere for reasons mentioned above and then try to influence the inhabitants with their culture, it doesn’t work and never will .
As Kev rightly points out " when in Rome etc ". I stick with my previous posts here , try building a church in Saudi and you’ll be the first person through chop chop square on Friday at noon .
I chose Saskatchewan for my family’s new home , we have intergrated and settled with the locals who themselves are immigrants or descendants of immigrants and have been well received but there again I don’t keep slagging off the people I want to live with , unlike the OP .
what a boring video !
I know what your saying its like when you hear the story’s of Brits getting nicked in Dubai for been ■■■■■■ in public. We might think its extreme but its there way so we must respect it.
Perhaps Europeans integrate in to Canada Australia etc as they are petty similar to us as they are of European decent. Well other than the real natives but that’s another story.
I can see what Carryfast is saying no one should have to give up there culture and heratige if they move elsewhere. Il always be English even if I stay in Canada the rest of my life.
But you have to put the nation where you lives way of life and beliefs above yours. I do think its the left wing pc brigade who have done the most damage though for saying its ok to not integrate and for pushing the everyone else has to pussyfoot round not saying this that or the other.

Im sorry Mike to here about your wife, your in a great place to live and work,i too have a reminder he will be 30 yrs old next year, regards to you Mike…shytalk.
Hi all.Shytalk.Many thanks for your reply. i am quite content with the life up here away from the stress and regulation culture of Europe.BUT as many other expats from all over have stated i have made the point to ‘‘fit in’’ with the culture, people and country,as when all is said and done i am a guest here.Fortunately people up her like the English and seem to find it ‘‘quaint’’ that anyone would want to move up to the arctic. but have accepted me wholeheartedly which has made my life here so much more pleasurable.
When i wrote what i earned for the work i done last year i forgot to mention that up here so far from ‘‘civiisation’’ you enhance your earnings by about 40percent always with ‘‘extras and deals’’ so my earning were ‘‘very’’ comfortable. These ways of working are only possible because we live, according to the Swedes on the ‘‘far side of the moon’’.
I have a mate here who workes for the emergency services on shifts. When he has free time he drives a bucket loader for various people for 2000kr per day ‘cash’.Not bad.
Ps the temp today is -29 with snow Take care.Mike
Morning Mike, sounds great and i still remember the hoops i had to jump through to get a work permit to work in Norway…theres no free for all like here, i had no problem fitting in to the life style and was accepted , as i said i have a son who lives there in a suberb of Kristiansand…i also spent a lot of time in Tromso and lived and enjoyed the Grand hotel there…i also traveled the hooter rooter as they call it several times…coastal steamer as im sure you know…one of my favourite places was Alta…that was a great place and my first encounter with the Lap people they wanted my ■■■■ to swap for there goods , i could go on for ever Mike but im surely boring many on the forum…by the way no snow for me at the moment and its typicaly tropical at 3 degrees here in the uk, cheers mike im off out now…keep in touch…regards…shytalk.

Still waiting for you to show me where I was anti-British and where I wrote that my country is superior.
I just say what I see, both countries are just normal countries, your country is better in some fields and my country is better in some others.
I am sorry that you cannot accept the fact, that your country is not the best country in the world in everything. To such extend, that you left it and went to Canada to enjoy benefits of this superior country

Not so much.
I agree that altough it’s good to stay Polish (in my case) I should live up to British values and customs - and I do it. But when it comes to beliefs: sorry, I am not going to accept your belief that Britain is the greatest of the great in everything and all other countries ■■■■■.
I am not going to force my way of living on you, as some other migrants of specific religion do, but I see nothing wrong with sharing my knowledge with you.
What’s wrong with that if I see in my new country that something is not done the best way it could be done and I say “listen guys, in my place we do it that way and it works better!”. I am not forcing you to do anything, I just share that information. Stupid people’s answer will be “Shut up, our way to do it is the best way, because it is British way to do it!”. Wise people’s answer will be “We look into it, and if it is indeed better, we can think how to use your method to improve our own country”
Look back in the history - back in your golden era, you were ruling half of the world, yet you were open for people from all the world to come here and to share their thoughts with you. If I remember correctly from my classes, there was a Czech scholarship in Oxford as far back as 1500s that was allowing Czech Scholars to come to England and share their Husytes ideas. Polish golden era was also in the time of religious wars, when we were tolerand and all wise people of Europe, persecuted due to their religions, were finding shelter in Poland, contributing to our science and cultural life.
I know you are no longer shaking half of the world and that it can be a bit annoying for some of you, but don’t give up on improving your country by looking as how others have done something. Old Polish saying says “Two heads is allways better than one head”.

So what is the point of national boundaries and the idea of ‘nation’ at all.Ironically if you’re right you’d be living in a tent and riding a horse shooting Buffalo with a bow and arrow not living a British colonial life in a British colony. While no surprise there’s more Brits who want to emigrate to Oz and Canada than Pakistan because of that issue that they don’t want to integrate with the Asian culture.Likewise when the Asians move here it’s no surprise that most of them (rightly) don’t want to integrate with a totally alien culture and there’s no way that any alien culture can integrate with ours without us losing/compromising at leat some of our own ethnicity and/or culture in return.Which,as I’ve said,is why I’ve got no issues with Southall being an Asian community and Brixton being an Afro Carribbean one.Just so long as places like Guildford can remain mostly British without some loony lefty wanting to lock me up if/when I complain about their ideas of ethnic and cultural integration everywhere just like that Commy zb Tito tried to do.
As for your idea of an integrated Canada and Obama’s USA no thanks I’d prefer 1950’s-60’s small town redneck Southern States USA any time thanks. It’s warmer
and they understood/understand the difference between integration and multi culturalism by not wanting their own ethnicity and culture to go the way of the Native American one.

The left wing lot actually want integration which is the problem.Multi Culturalism actually means what the Southern States of the US (rightly) wanted in the form of apartheid in which the different ethnic communities are kept seperate and to their own.Just like the UN did to bring peace to the old commie federation of Yugoslavia.
