which of the following systems of pay would you prefer? and why?
Basic of £500 per week, plus 5 nights at £25.00=£125, plus £2 per dayx6 meal allowance =£12. total £637.
or
basic £155 per week, plus 7 nights at £25.00=£175, plus £10 per dayx7 meal allowance =£70, plus european subsitance £33.85 x 7=£237. Total £637
Get as much as possible on the basic, that way its always there and when you’re on holiday you can’t drop below the basic.
Companies like the bonus and other accrued cons, and so do some drivers reps, who will be fed the work to max the bonus’ to maintain the status quo.
Bonus and night outs sound good on paper, and many are conned into thinking they have a good deal, but whenever they have a holiday or a short week due to bank hols, they lose out every time.
Another thing thats changed in recent years is overtime and bonus being on total hours rather than daily…you can do 10 hours overtime in the first 3 days and they can take it back from you by giving you a stand down or short days for the final 2.
Those last three sentences may not apply in the case you make, but they apply to thousands of staff who have been conned.
Subsistence money is subsistence money, it is not and never will be part of a wage and i simply do not understand people who include it when calculating their pay.
One other thing…those subsistence payments mean diddly squat should redundancy rear its head, and the same meaning when the govt calculates earnings related pension entitlement…which may or not be the case in the future but should be borne in mind.

WOW, you’re a real serial spammer Phil, never known one person start so many pointless threads.
i know things have changed over the years.
most companies paid per trip or per mile, they made the most of any allowances to keep everyones tax down to a minimum. this kept their NI contributions down too.
but these same companies have been bought out, then merged into a large corporation, they are no longer run by entrepreneurs, they are run by people you never see.
some on this site have never been paid more in expenses than actual wages, so it might be an eye opener for them.

Who the hell gives you a choice FFS? In these times you are grateful just to have a job, you cant afford to be an arse and say how you want paying. One wrong move and some Eastern European ■■■■ will steal your job and wife/boyfriend.
take the £500 wouldnt work for a company that had to make my wages sound good with fuel allowance meal allowance and a night out is NOT part of you wage its an allowance for sleeping in a truck to cover costs!

no one said you get a choice, just which way you would prefer it.

I’d go for a decent basic as you don’t lose out with holiday pay and if you got made redundant.
does your holiday pay, or potential redundancy pay amount to the same as what you save each year in income tax by getting more in tax free allowances than taxable pay?
everyones entitled to their opinion, but i’ll take the maximum amount of cash that i can grab.
For the sake of getting 4 weeks decent holiday money, I’d rather have as much of the gross pay possible “below the line” ie doesn’t count towards your “taxable to date” aggregate.
If you gross £637pw and only £155 of it is taxable, you’ll end up paying no tax whatsoever!
Indeed, £8060 (£155x52weeks) is the absolute optimum gross pay that anyone can have to not pay tax at all. All those other allowances are tax-free, but so far I’ve not found a firm that pays them for FT jobs & wages.
You can get such deals with an honest PAYE agency, but because you’ve got to spend no more than 40% of your time in one location as a mobile worker, you’ll not be settled down anywhere to make a nice meal of such a cushy pay structure over the course of a career-length amount of time alas.
I’d be back in FT tomorrow if I could get £637 a week, and take home £637 a week - wouldn’t you?

Pretty rascist comment there i’d say, think you should be on pre mod for that.

I’m suprised so many people respond to them as well
two very pointless responses. neither one of them explain anything to anyone.
kind of like a teenage girl shouting “i hate you”, then running off.
it dosn’t explain a thing. very childish from both involved.

‘Pointless’, just like 95% of the threads you start.
You just spam for the sake of spamming and wind up/lie for the sake of winding Members up.

lie about what?
please explain.
you’ve just done exactly what those other two idiots have done.
you’ve started saying something, yet you havn’t backed it up with any factual information.

Not enough hours in the day to troll through all your dross to find all your ‘windups’.
Off hand, I think the job you had at Nolans. 'Nuff said?
wind ups are a laugh, a giggle, the sort of thing that people don’t take seriously.
lies are something else.
“Nolans”? i did a couple of jobs for them, what about it?
