Open the Door, take a beer out and close the Door
Don’t park next to a trucknet member in a MSA at night.

And make sure there’s always plenty in there too.
When picking up a load ask the guys in the dispatch office what temp it needs to run at,frozen -25 usually, chilled anywhere between 0 and 14 degrees,
There’s buttons on the trl the older ones have 2 arrows one for dropping the temp and one for raising it.
To set it you use the = button and job done.
The newer ones are digital which usually asks you what you want to do to them.
If in doubt ask someone to show you what to do.
thanks guys, all helpful especially the beer, but i prefer cider lol. ive only done a few days for fowler welch in spalding and seem to get the hang of it, i just wanted to know what others think. what exactly does MSA meant though? sorry if i seem dumb but i rather ask than not.
Chilled is + Degree
Frozen is - Degree

Motorway service area.
If you work for F/W then all you need to know is +3 and +10 as out of spalding that’s the only 2 temps they work at,and the shunters in there will set it for you before you pick it up.

yeah was working with them last week but from now i think i will be mostly working with freshlinc , first day with them tomorrow through TFL Recruitment.
Make sure you have some red fuel in the trailer tank before you go out.
If you have transcan fitted to the trailer then it records the temperature at ten minute intervals for over 2 weeks so the gaffer can give you a kicking if you ■■■■ something up.
If you have a multi-temp trailer there will be a couple of flick switches pointing at the ground from above the display (on a Carrier) left hand one is C1 (front comp) right hand C2 (rear comp). If you have a multi-temp load you won’t be popular if you forget to turn the rear fridge on.
Another thing to remember is that the fridge will only maintain the temperature of the load, it won’t chill it down if it’s out of range when it’s loaded.
But most importantly, don’t run out of red, they won’t like that.

You might well be sent to pick up either a new truck or a rental, was talking to a chap from tfl as i was booking off and he said there is lots of trucks to be collected from near nottingham. There was plenty of tfl lads in there today doing that by the looks of it. Might well see you there if your as lucky as me to start at 3am, GREAT!
A lot of places you load at will want the temp pulled down before you get there so they’re loading a cold trailer. If you’re loading a -25 load, stick the fridge on an hour or so before you get there.
If you’re overnighting, it’s better to have the fridge either switched off or on permanent run. If it’s on stop start you WON’T get a very good night’s sleep. If it’s on constant, you get used to the noise and nod off.
Oh, and don’t lick any of the bars in the back!
We cart chilled chicken at -2
Ice cream should be at -22.
Immigrants at -35.
Ken.
One guy I know had his first digital display reefer and set it at 25. Should have been -25! Half cooked the load on the way to Paris. Very easy mistake to make.

I’ve been dragged in to do that job tomorrow as well - coach trip somewhere and truck back to Spalding.

Oh yes rotating your stock helps, for every cold beer removed, replace it with a warm one but keepin the coldest st the front!!
If you are working nights and you stop for a break and other drivers are on a night out switch the fridge off or park well away. Obviously don,t forget to switch the thing back on before you continue.
And make sure the trailer has sufficient fuel, if you are delivering single temp whole loads then it’s easy enough. if you are doing multi temp with more than a single drop and the bulkheads are in use be careful to reset the temps suitably, for example -21 in the front +1 in the middle and +12 on the back and your first drop is all of the +12 and half of the +1 the rear fridge must be set to +1.
If it is multi temp or single temp for that matter make sure you check the fridge is working properly and the temps are within range and match the paperwork, very often particularly in warm weather when the trailer has just been loaded the temps may be a bit high, this is normal and the should stabilize once the trailer is closed, if you’re not sure better to ask someone rather than ruin a load which could be worth a few bob.
Carrier fridges have a lock feature on the panel in the back of the trailer, if the lock symbol is lit hold your finger on the carrier logo the lock will flash and after a few seconds the lock symbol goes out allowing you to use the panel.
Really speaking somebody at the depot should have shown you what to do, they are quite simple to use , but if nobody shows you mistakes can be expensive.
