How the fuck does anyone get home on a Friday?

I start at 1am and am usually finished for 11, so I don’t get to see Friday rush hour any more, and haven’t for the last 7 years. I remember it used to be bad then, extra 30 to 45 mins on a journey, but these days it sounds 10 times worse. I have been out and about in the car this afternoon, and a journey that usually takes 17 mins has taken an hour and 10 minutes :open_mouth: every short cut was chockablock. Even the traffic reports on R2 seem to take forever. The motorways and major roads seem a grim place to be on a Friday, and I was wondering just how many people run out of driving or duty time because of this?

I’m glad I’m not where I was 7 years ago, leaving Southampton at around 1600 to come back to stoke.

I was going to say the opposite today, and ask if everyone had ■■■■■■ off on holiday and just left a few mugs in Britain. I had 1 run today, 6 drops all local, I would have expected it to take around 5 hours, be back for lunch and out for a quick one hitter after lunch and a Tacho break.

First run was done in 4 hours!

SWEEEEEEEET FRIDAYS

Last Friday was a disaster leaving Chesterfield at about 3pm back to Gloucester. Today though was great, started at 6am delivering in Port Talbot, load from Cardiff to Gloucester, then load from Avonmouth back to Gloucester and off the motorway network at 2:30pm. ■■■■■■ about in the yard getting loaded, fuel etc and have a chat till 5:30pm.

If you make public transport expensive, allow private motorists to claim back tax offsets on the running of their vehicles, and let foreign vehicles drive on our roads without tax or MOTs…

Our current all-time-high traffic problem is the result.

Judging by other threads and news reports, the answer is Nil if you drive for stobarts!!! :open_mouth:

Any route involving the M1 or M25 on a Friday at kick out time will normally result in a night out.

Also seeing Friday is POETS day then we all know kick out time is about 13:00. I always say that to have a good run back up the M1 on a Friday if coming from darn sarf you need to be at least the top end of Northampton by 12:30.
Otherwise you are hitting traffic all the way up to at least junction 28 n/b. A fair bit of the traffic congestion starting earlier is because of all the lads in the building trade who are finishing their shift at 12:00 so they can get home earlier after working away all week on sites hence the name POETS Day

Use a map, dismiss the sat nav, as that is sending everyone on the same route
Never have a problem on a Friday

As a senior driver,I tend to get locals on friday,so it’s not really an issue.

Not going further south than Darlington seems to work ok for me

We’ve got a ■■■■ like that at our place. In bed with the planners I reckon. Back, loaded, in the car and out the gate before any of the rest are back. Wrinkled old ■■■■■■ should have retired 2 year ago. :smiling_imp:

Jealousy is a terrible thing Nick…

Was back in the house for 4 yesterday afternoon [emoji4]

That never happened when i was on general.

I’ve known it take me 5 hours to get back to Barnsley on the M1 from leaving Hemel Hempstead now and again on a Friday if leaving Hemel around about 14:00-14:30 just with the amount of traffic the usual Friday smash and roadworks. Funny thing is though one of our drivers did it back from Milton Keynes one Friday back to the yard with no hold ups and no coming off the limiter in 3 hours and he left Milton Keynes about 15:00.

Going no further than the bar at my nearest Wetherspoons usually works for me
Now that’s what I call a local run

Working nights has its advantages

I’m on general and was back in the house for 12 yesterday :stuck_out_tongue: Afternoon collection got cancelled… what a devastating phone call that was

Work 12-8 on a Friday. Just do a couple of local runs, usually only need the van.

Can confirm the traffic is hilarious.

I can’t even get off the site never mind up the zb road , enjoy your bloody sat night :smiling_imp: :smiling_imp: :smiling_imp: :smiling_imp: .
